Coreau and McCollum are kind of at the up or out point with the team...that leaves only Paterson and Perry in the system for the future. No problem with adding a guy who will probably stay in Sweden for two years

Saarijarvi didn't look good in the USHL? You saw him play? He scored at a better than a point per game clip in the U18 worlds (7 GP, 3G ,6A)

Dallas is going to sign Nieimi to deal with $4 million annually. WTH will the do with Lehtonen and his contract? Are they going to tie up $10 million in cap space on goalies?

The current state of the team is that we often trip over ourselves trying to clear our zone....I have no issue with developing a small Dman that moves the puck, has an offensive upside and shoots RH. Holland has done pretty well in the 3rd/4th/5th rounds of the draft. I trust his judgement. From Ken Kal on twitter.... Saarijarvi to Svechnikov to Athanasiou.......no problem I love Ken Kal

Crapping the bed? I like the Svechnikov pick a lot...we'll see about Vili Saarijarvi...we have four young Dmen that we need to sort out and it's not like a 3rd round pick is going to step in right away. I have no issue with them taking a guy who projects as a small RH dman that moves the puck well and can help the PP in a few years.

Wings Prospects twitter feed compares him to Sami Vatanen.

So much for that tall defenseman thing...
-
Kylington is 6 feet tall...they seem to want to draft bigger defensemen of late...although those last two didn't pan out at all Toronto is going "small and skilled" this year....get ready to hear "you have to be heavier on the puck boys" for the next 10-12 years of your lives kids...

Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick
Shinzaki replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
This could be a smokescreen meant to further inspire Mantha to get his arse in gear...or they want to package the big jamoke and the 19th to move up and nab top end D prospect. -
or it's that kind of attitude that people who liked an indie band show towards people who discover the band after they're popular and call them "new" when their 4th album breaks.. "I like them all along and I'm superior"...or something like that...

I've called him Franzy the panzy...softer than ice cream, sweeter than a Cinnibon..but that's a commentary on his style of play. That doesn't mean I want to see him with a cranium full of sawdust because he took too many blows to the head. For Pete's sake, the man had a subdural hematoma a few years back.. I think he'd be foolish to come back and risk having his brain permanently scrambled by the next big hit he takes

A homosexual? Really? Does anyone honestly think that allegation was made with any sincerity? I've questioned his effort...I've questioned his willingness to play up to his weight and force the issue physically. Those are comments on his job performance...they have nothing to do with any level of personal animosity towards him. I don't know Franzen personally..I'm willing to be no one here does. There's no basis for any personal animus. Therefore, it's entirely consistent to look at him as a person rather than a hockey player and voice some concerns about the overall condition of his melon. He's had a number of concussions and missed large chunks of the last two years because of them with last year's injury being worse than the one from the previous year. Of course people are worried about him as a human being. He seems to be risking an awful lot.

Given the stakes...why risk coming back? http://www.bu.edu/cte/about/what-is-cte/

I want to see Nick Jensen get a legit shot in camp.

We are slow coming out of our end of the ice....we circle back and reset (if we're lucky) constntly which gives the opposition time to set up and force us to play chip and chase. That makes us much easier to defend.

I've seen a fair number of Griffs games this year...I'll echo what krsmith said about Mantha...physically he has all the ability in the world and can dominate when he gets after it. the problem he has...like a lot of really talented athletes...is that he's finally reached a level where talent alone doesn't cut it. You have to work...it's paradoxical, the more talent you have, the harder you have to work because you have more skills to develop and refine. Jimmy D was 100% justified in raking Mantha like that. The kid has a huge opportunity in front of him as the Wings NEED scoring. He isn't putting forth the effort to grab that opportunity and run with it. An WTH does Jensen have to do to get a shot in Detroit. Blazing speed, moves the puck well and decent size...and he's RH!! Every time I see him play I think "that's an NHL defenseman".
-
AA's gotten a lot of Helm comparisons...when he does stuff like that, I think "Federov"
-
Nosek had a hell of a game...he could be a FA steal. .Athanasiou's speed lead to him netting the go ahead goal and his speed created the PP Teemu scored on. Tyler Bertuzzi looks like Luke Glendening with more offense. The Bertuzzi pick was a head scratcher at the time, but he's got a future....don't know if it's as a 2nd or 3rd line wing or a 4th line guy with offense, but he's going to be in Detroit by 2016-2017 Athanasiou, Larkin, Sheahan....potentially, that's a heck of a group of C's we could see in Detroit when the new building opens. I'm not 100% convinced that Gus won't eventually be a C as well

Signed Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses
Shinzaki replied to anthonyn66's topic in General
From a practiclal standpoint..if he isn't playing, I don't care. We're going to be under the cap with or without his 1.5mil. I don't want to see Dan Cleary playing over a Jurco or any other productive player unless he magically becomes 2008 Dan Cleary again. -

He's the Wings answer to Don Kelly....for whatever reason, he sticks around. -
At the time, I thought it was a worthy gamble , but Clealry, it was abad deal. The Legwand deal would have been OK had Legwand actually showed up and played at something approaching the level they anticipated. He didn't...Babcock soured on him and that was pretty much it. No reason to even consider signing him. In retrospect..a bad trade even if you only consider the 2nd round pick. Jarnkrok is going to get a huge opportunity in Nashville this year. Something that I agree he was unlikely to get here for a number of years. Could we have used that pick and Jarnkrok to help us get a decent RH Dman in trade? Probably...which is the really bad part of it in my view.

Cleary fits in Grand Rapids

He's a rental with some injury issues.....
