Yep...forgot we already rid ourselves of our 3rd rounder in the Turgeon deal. Ferraro and a 4th will have to do then.

Ferraro has no future here...Glendening and Callahan have passed him in the system so far as 4th "grit" players go...so he'd probably welcome a trade. If the Caps will take him and a pick (I agree that a 4th or maybe a 3rd) should do it. If the Caps insist on a guy like Tatar or Jurco, then I'll say no thanks and take my chances that Marchenko is ready to be a puck moving RH defenseman.

The main issue with this team last year was injuries....which was something of a blessing in disguise with Shehan, Nyquist and Jurco getting time to develop, but we could have seen that with Hank and Pavel healthy too. We had problems on D obviously...Kindl and Lashoff regressed...more so Kindl. Smith and Quincey were inconsistent but both had good second halves. Quincey was pretty solid defensively around the cage...he leverages his body well. Smith finished well in the playoffs, so I hope he builds on that. Longer term...we quit drafting guys like Datsyuk in the later rounds and started drafting guys like Gennady Stolyarov so we had to rely on crapshoot signings like Sammy, Bert, Tootoo and Cleary ....but that may have changed in the last couple of drafts. 2010 and 2011 look really good and what collective insanity lead NHL teams to allow Mantha to slip all the way to 20th? I think Smith's slow development, Helm's injuries and Abdelkader's inability to develop an offensive game hurt the team a lot. Abdelkader looked like he had the potential to be a 15-20 goal guy at one point but that hasn't happened...not even playing alongside Datsyuk. He's a quality 4th line wing...maybe even 3rd line. But Pavel likes him so he rolls on the top line.

Fine....top six DMan on a playoff team...regardless...he's an NHL player filling a spot for 80 game. Sorry he isn't he next Bobby Orr..but he's an NHL PLAYER and decent one at t hat. Something more than pick #19 from the 2012 draft likely would have been by now. Sorry to rock the boat on one of the three memes of this board (Quincey sucks...Holland is dumb..Franzen blows) but I honestly don't think the Wings biggest problem is Kyle F'n Quincey

I don't see the Quincey trade as "backfiring"....I know he's a favorite whipping boy around here, but like him or not...we've had two years of top six defense play for the #19 draft pick. It would typically take several years to get the player you pick at 19 to give you two years of NHL play

See what he does in camp...if he can hang in on the top 6....give him the spot. If he can't, he's the man in GR...with Athanasiou and possibly Teemu, Jurco and Nosek.

I'd rather they keep the cap space and give Oulett, Marchenko or Jensen a real shot at camp....Sproul definitely needs a year at GR

I fully expect Marchenko to be on the roster next season replacing Kindl or Lashoff. Smith-Kronwall DeKeyser-Ericsson Marchnko-Quincey or DeKeyser-Marchenko Quincey-Ericsson.

We have NO idea what negotiations went on with Quincey prior to his signing. He may have had an if/then scenario in place with the Wings prior to hitting the market and that may have been a factor in the timing of his agreement I don't know that there was...don't know that there wasn't. I find it laughable that terms like "panic" and "desperation" are being used as if the people posting have some kind of insight re the mental state of Ken Holland. Hell...you don't even know if the plan was to re-sign Quincey all along even if a guy like Boyle said "yes"...he had the room to do both. You might be in a panic...you might feel a sense of desperation, feel free...it's your right as a fan.

I'm sure the city is a factor...how could it not be? I'm sure that there are countless variables that go into each individual player's decision on where to sign. I'd be willing to admit that there probably isn't ONE factor that is common in all of these decisions. I do find it galling that Ken Holland hasn't obtained some sort of voodoo skills that enable him to convince players they should come here when they want to be somewhere else.

Given the departure of Emmerton and Jarnkrok...I would have thought Janmark would play in GR. He signed to play in Sweden though...

Quincey was NOT the "worst player on last year's blueline". Far from it...he was actually very solid the 2nd half of the year defensively. Lashoff and Kindl were worse...much much worse. Kindl took a giant step backward last year.

I hope the don't do an Occupy the JLA....all that fecal matter, burger wrappers and patchouli oil messing up the seats...we don't need that.

We have three RH DMen at GR....Marchenko and Jensen are 2nd/3rd pairing types and are ready or close to it. Sproul has a chance to be a top pairing guy, but he needs at least another year at GR. I'd be fine with waiving bye bye to Kindl and Lashoff if Marchenko and Jensen look ready in camp. I said earlier this year I'd be good with re-signing Quincey if the price was right...a two year deal for 8.5? Close enough for me....

And no...Quincey isn't as bad as most of you think..he probably plays the body around the cage (position and leverage vs a stick in the ribs) better than anyone on the roster. Is he an offensive dynamo? no...he is not, but he isn't the disaster most people portray him to be

We offered Robidas the same deal Toronto did. Does anyone think we're going to be worse than the Leafs next year. Don't know if it's the city..the coach..the building...but when you offer a number of players equal or better terms than what they get elsewhere and you're a playoff team, there's a problem.

You offer a guy an extra year and 3.5 million to play for you and he says "no thanks"....I'm not sure what the GM can do. We have two immediate RH D options in GR (Marchenko and Jensen) and another that's close in Sproul. Maybe we can use some of our cap space to pay the people's water bills...that might keep the UN out of town and that might raise the city's profile as a destination for FA's
