Lilja is/has never been awesome, why do people wear the homer hat because he plays for the Wings? He has his moments but more of them are spectacular. I will be glad when Quincey / Ericsson / Kindl are ready so this guy gets phased out. Add whomever they trade for at the deadline to that list.

When you make trades you take the risk of the player you give up becoming something great. Im happy for Matthias that he got the call , but you don't know if he is going to pan out or not. Hopefully for him that he does end up with a good career.

He wouldn't be acquired cheap, nor would he sign cheap.

There is a severe lack of grit on the Wings.......they get pushed around more often than not (See Ottawa game for latest version) Bowman is wishy-washy, and im sure Babcock would like the team to be tougher. Im not a Drake fan, but at least he provides that aspect each night. Hopefully they can get tougher at the blue line also.

1. the Kings will still want more than what Blake is worth, but there will be other defenseman available. Blake is overrated defensively and the guy STILL gets caught out of position when he goes after the big hit. Adam Foote and Scrastins <sp?> saved his bacon many times when they were both on the Crapalanche. 2. Wings need to address the depth of the defensive corps, after Lidstrom Rafalski Kronwall, it drops off somewhat. Chelios is still very effective, but Lilja keeps making bonehead mistakes in critical moments. Wouldn't hurt to add someone with a little muscle at the blueline. I wouldn't want to depend on Chelios to play 20 minutes a night in case of what happened in last years playoffs, Kronwall and Schneider both getting injured. Quincey did well in his time up though. 3. When Ken Holland comes knockin, the price just goes up. Any "Name" player and the first words out of some GM's mouth will be "Kendl" "Ericsson" or "#1 or #2 draft pick" I wouldnt mind seeing Brian Rolston come to the Wings, I think he is on a contract year and would fit in with the style the Wings play. Guy can score, is decent defensively, but I know his name isn't Fedorov so this thread will probably not agree with me on that....

There are scenarios for every team where they drafted someone and allowed a better player to get by. Wings took Primeau , passed on Jagr. It happens to the best and worst of the teams, well except for Phoenix and Toronto, they've started a tradition on allowing lots of good players get by.....

Ducks are getting everyone back and adding more to their team....All they have to do is get into the 8th spot or better. I wouldn't want to play them in the early rounds.

The Wings made their own bed tonight, they had plenty of chances to win, the Lilja situation is going to have to be addressed; but the Wings need a forward who will play with an edge, not another ex player who is at the end of his career. As for what it would take to get Sergei back, it would be much more than he's worth at this point.

His value is increasing by the day, the Rangers are hot and heavy in their pursuit along with a couple of other teams. Foote may be a jerk, but he's a team guy and he would provide what the Wings lack and thats someone who will make someone pay for crossing the blue line, something we don't have on a consistant basis. Fischer and Vladdy were examples of that.

Youre right about the price spike, but for years there were Wing fans driving/flying in for the weekend games, Mickey Redmond used to have some decent packages for a Nashville weekend, so lots of the games had the Winged Wheel more often than not being the dominant color in the Sommet Center. First 2 rows in Nashville were 95 dollars when I lived there, but they've changed all of that. Their prices are still cheaper than many teams. I've walked up to the door before and bought Wings tickets at game time, there have been other games that barely sold out if they actually did.

He didnt spend anything until the last 2 seasons, and even then they were near the bottom of the league in team salary. When Leipold bought the Predators he admittedly did not know much about it. He has no hockey history, when he put that team in Nashville he was thinking he would have a gold mine, which of course its not. The support there is still laughable, regardless of what some of the resident Predator fans will say in here. They still aren't drawing that well, the last time Detroit was in they didnt sell that out (less than 15K) and the home game after that with Colorado they didn't draw 10K. Still some struggles down there.
