Absolutely his days are numbered! Between 3650-7300 days, and counting.........

I have been saying for a long time that the season schedule should be changed so that each team would play a home/away game against each team outside of your division. That would be 50 games. Play each team inside of your divison 8 times for 32 games. Don't have to add/subtract the amount of games played, the schedule would be more balanced, divisons would still mean something, and then the 1-16 playoff tournament would be feasible. It would bring more excitement for fans, being able to see each team in your home rink, it would make the battle for the remaining playoff spots mean so much more, and would give new excitemnet to the playoffs, where many more matchup possibilities could playout.

I'm looking forward to this matchup. For whatever reason, all 6 of their games were played before the new year, so they haven't faced each other in 3 1/2 months. I can see this series going 7.

Benny's Pizza Pub @ Merriman and Joy Rd. in Westland. Two movie screen size projection tvs in HD,one at either end of the place. Two 36" Flat screen HD tvs. Always has the Wings game on when they are playing, lots of regulars that hangout and cheer on the home teams, and the best pizza in town, IMO.

If you're still here on the 8th, and have time, and a passport, The Whalers are playing at Windsor in Game #4 of their playoff series. Great rivalry, plus 2 of the top NHL prospects playing. If you do go, best to get tickets now. If you're into nostalgia, you could take a drive to Grand River/McGraw, not too far from downtown. There's a light guard armory there now, but that's where the Olympia once stood.

Tradition. That's what makes a great team. I suppose Toronto, Montreal and N.Y. Rangers should add black to their sweaters as well. But they don't, nor do I hope they ever do. The Lions let Matt Millen add black, because he played for the Raiders. Which was a dumb thing to do. You don't see Green Bay, Chicago or Minnesota changing their jerseys. The Red Wing sweater is steeped in history and tradition, and that's the way it should be.

Yes, you are correct. Scott Morrison mentioned that Calgary could possibly bring in Bob Nicholson and Steve Yzerman to run the club, with Steve being the G.M. Morrison also said that it was because of the success they had with team Canada, and was only a possibility.

3/27 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Predators 0 (SO)

Calgary went down in Flames to the Bruins this afternoon, 5-0. Wings can push it to 8 points with another huge win!!! LET'S GO WINGS!!!!!! -
YOU must be getting old?? Haha, I was 35 at the time, and was at the Joe that night. One of the greatest nights of my life, watching The Avs get pounded, the Wings comeback and winning on Darren's goal in OT, and laughing at Mike Keane when he said after the game that the Wings had no heart, and waited until they played at home to get back at Claude and the Avs..........

3/27 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Predators 0 (SO)

I didn't see it in the article, and I was wondering how this tax is enforced. Is it in the form of cash/check from each player prior to the game? Kind of like "legal" extortion? If you don't pay it, you can't play? What, the state will come in and arrest you? This is a load of crap! So, not only do the players have to pay, but isn't Nashville one of the teams that gets revenue sharing from the rest of the league, which would include me, because I'm a season ticket holder for the Wings? I say that because I'm sure part of my ticket money, especially pre-season ticket money is used to pay off these teams. What a joke!! -
Yes, that would be great. I just heard it this morning on 97.1. Great call!!

Like 'em both, but I prefer the red. Always love watching the Wings take on the Hawks when the Wings wear red, and the Hawks white. My two favorite sweaters.

We seem to agree on the playoff structure, although in my scenario the division winners would get the top 6 seeds. There has to be some incentive for winning your division. The other thing I would like to see is make the regular season a more balanced schedule, that way you don't have to realign divisions or conferences. Play every team outside of the division twice, for a total of 50 games. That way, every team has to travel to the West/East coast. Then play division teams 8 times for the remaining 32 games. I know people have complained about too many division games, but as long as they are spread throughout the season, and we get to see all of the other teams and their stars, I wouldn't have a problem with it. The length of the season remains the same, every team faces each other, and makes each point and game even more important.

I've been saying for a long time that the NHL playoffs would be more exciting if they went back to a 16 team tournament. Division winners get the top 6 seeds, followed by the next 10 in points. The matchups would vary from round to round, and year to year. For example, if the playoffs started today, the Wings would play Pittsburgh in the first round.

"Orange Hat Guy" is Kenny, and he's been a Red Wings season ticket holder since I believe 1972. He sits in section 112 or 113, and is very easy to find because of the knit hat he wears. Joe Diroff, a.k.a. "The Brow" was a school teacher, and a big Red Wing's booster back in the 1980s. Now I'm sure he was a fan long before then, but that's when I remember seeing him. He had very bushy eyebrows, hence the name. He was a nice guy, and would get the crowd going with his "Strawberry Shortcake" cheer. STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE GOOSEBERRY PIE V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!!! He also had ketchup and mustard bottles with him, and would yell out,"You know why they(opposing team) won't ketchup? Because they can't cut the mustard." Joe would welcome the team home at the airport, at all hours of the night. Everybody loved "The Brow".

I've been searching for the matchups, and haven't been successful. Would someone please post what the brackets look like. Thanks.

They were doing a meet and greet with Bettman. Crosby was the only one without his name taped on.

First time I remember hearing "Sweet Caroline" was when the Wings beat Colorado 7-0 in game #7, 2002. The DJ played it near the end of the game, knowing Carolina was our next opponent.

The fans can figure it out ... (realignment)
oldredbarnman replied to whitewolf406's topic in General
I know we've had discussions on schedule and realignment before, and I would prefer a more balanced schedule, where all teams play at least a home and home. That way, travel is more fair across the league. But my main interest is the playoffs. I'd like to see the NHL go back to a 16 team tournament, like they had back in the late 70s and early 80s. The division winners get the top 6 spots, and the next 10 teams would fill out the field. That way, there are many more possible playoff matchups, and I believe would create more excitement, and fan interest, instead of the same old East vs. East, and West vs. West. Just for an example, if the regular season ended yesterday, the 1st round would look like this: 1- Capitals vs. 16- Wild 2- Sharks vs. 15- Stars 3- Hawks vs. 14- Wings 4- Devils vs. 13- Predators 5- Canucks vs. 12- Flames 6- Sabres vs. 11- Senators 7- Kings vs. 10- Avalanche 8- Coyotes vs. 9- Penguins Now this doesn't account for a more balanced schedule, but it is one possibility if the league went to a 16 team tournament. Just opens the door for many more playoff and Stanley Cup matchups, and also gives the 2 best teams a better chance of playing each other for the Cup. -
And since they interview the STH of the game during a tv timeout, you'd only be able to see it if someone was using a camera phone or video camera when he said it.

How My Love 4 Hockey Affected My Feelings Towards B-Ball
oldredbarnman replied to rage's topic in General
As David Brenner(he was comedian in the 1970s and 80s) used to say, "Give each team 100 points, and play 2 minutes."
