Does any of us actually know how well this Martin and Verbeek were actually performing in their job duties? Seeing as how they are such an integral part as well as being the face of the organization, I guessing some of you do. On the other hand. The Wing's organization has always been talked about as being loyal. Maybe these two....well....maybe they sucked at their jobs but the Wings were too loyal to fire them and Stevie has done Ilitch and Holland a great service by taking them on? "Whew! I'm glad Stevie took Verbeek.....now I don't have to fire his ass!"

I'm not up on the Hawks or the cap. Who are they likely to lose or have to move in the off season?

I don't understand the hate towards Hossa. As far as I know, he didn't demand the trade to Pittsburgh.....went there as a rental and probably didn't like the fit so he came to Detroit at a deep discount. He could have played better for us in the playoffs but for the most part he was a very solid player for us. We simply could not afford him after that or I'm sure he probably would still be here. Can you fault him for going to a Stanley Cup contender? I would think if given the opportunity, any one of us would choose to go to a winning team instead of a bottom dweller.

You really want the best in the business to just step aside and hand things over to a virtual unknown GM commodity? Granted Yzerman was a great player but does that automatically equate to a great GM? He's proven that he's capable of building a team. Really? Where? Are you talking about the Olympic team? Was there a salary cap to work with on any of those teams he 'built'....or even contracts to negotiate? I love Stevie, but with the list of players that he had at his disposal to choose from in 'building' that Olympic team, it would have been hard for anyone in that position with any hockey knowledge to fail. I think it could serve him and the Wings well for him to get his feet wet in Tampa in a real GM setting with a real salary cap and real contracts to negotiate and not simply looking at a list of all stars and deciding which all star to choose over the other.

Ok, so if Brian is not on the ice....the turnover doesn't get made....Brian's goal isn't made...Annnnnnnd we still lose 1-0. Blame the loss on him all you want.
-
Like scoring our only goal last night?
-
Why? If it wasn't for him, we would be getting shut out.

Nice change of pace from the rest of these posts.

I dunno.....I kind of like Boston's chances against most anyone in the East. I like their depth, they're playing grind-it-out playoff hockey and they are getting decent goal tending when they need it. I didn't follow them all that close during the season, but I think injuries played a part in them not finishing higher than they did. I think they could well be a dangerous playoff team for Pittsburgh.

Chara was skating and staying in the play when the Buffalo player took a slight whack at the back of Chara's ankle. That is when Chara turned around and went after him. Watch it on youtube and tell me you guys would not be throwing a fit if any one of our Wings got suspended for that incident. In my opinion, nothing about that incident warrants a suspension.

From what I saw, Z is at 7.4 this year and Franzen is at 5.5.
-
I'll give you Franzen not even being close (but he is more than double), but the other two are pretty damn close to being paid triple Sammy's salary this year. My point is, our 'superstars' have underperformed. We want to mention them with the league's best and yet every year we end up making excuses as to why their numbers are not up there with the league's best.
-
Say what you want about Sammy, but he scored more goals this season than anyone on the Wings. And right now has as many playoff points as Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Franzen combined. I would be real happy with some of that clutch-flukeyness goal-scoring ability right about now. And imagine that!....he's doing it for a third of the cost as any one of the 3 mentioned above.

You don't have Fox Sports Detroit?

Thanks! I tried posting the image but got an error message saying that I wasn't allowed to post an image from that location....I figured it was just because it was a Penguin's site.

I'm not too good at posting photos, but check out this link to a great photo of Cooke getting KO'd. http://www.letsgopens.com/scripts/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=45128

Heard that he left the game tonight in the second period and didn't return. Any news?
-
Sheesh! And all I asked was if anyone had any word on Hossa's injury.

It's not unrealistic by any means. Chicago plays the 2nd of back to back games tomorrow night against a pesky Minnesota team. They've got a game against the Devils, a game against Calgary (who could still be fighting for a playoff spot), a game against Colorado (who could still be fighting for a playoff spot), a game against Dallas (probably a win), another game against the Blues (who are beating Chicago tonight), and finishing up against the Wings. I would not be one bit surprised to see Chicago go 1-5 in those games. I'm guessing we'll end up in the 5th slot though.
-
Personally, I'm not too worried about Calgary. Of their remaining 13 games, 9 of them are against teams that currently hold playoff spots. I don't think they have it in them to run that gauntlet. As far as reaching a number 5 seed.....it's not all that comical actually. 5 points is not a huge deficit to overcome by season end. The Wings had a 4 point swing just this past week in coming from behind Calgary in the standings and now putting 3 points between them.
-
I'm not a Chicago fan but I don't get all this talk about Chicago being a one and done kind of team. Toews, Keith, Kane and Hossa all locked up.....fill in with a bunch of 2nd rate cast members (aka...like Detroit has done) and you have a cup contender.

I'm not sure which game it was.....might have been the Fox Sport's post game interview in the locker room with Howard after the Nashville game. Anyways, by listening to Howard talk, it sounded very much like what Ozzie would say after such a game. Howard is his own person, but I could hear the mentoring of Ozzie coming through in what Howard said. I think Howard has a great teacher in Ozzie.
-
I must be watching a different game than most of you. I'm sorry, but Jimmy stops none of those shots either.
-
Ozzie gives up 3 goals to the lowly Washington Capitals......and we're calling for his head. Jimmy gives up 3 goals to the high octane Minnesota scoring machine.....and we're comparing him to Miller. Interesting.

I'm flipping back and forth between the Wing's game and the Blackhawks/Blues game. I doubt the Blues will have the fire power to keep up in this game but I'll be highly surprised if the Hawks escape this one without an injury or two. The Blues are hitting hard and playing with a lot of enthusiasm under their new coach. I'm hoping someone will have a way of posting a clip of a hit on Patrick Sharp.......It was great!
