I was ready to sympathize for you the moment I saw the thread, since I knew this was the reaction you'd get here. For the record, however, I agree with you.

Toews: Most undeserving Conn Smyth winner in history?
Datsyukian Geek replied to blues_demitra38's topic in General
Deserving or not it's an award than Crosby doesn't have, so Toews technically now has more accolades than Crybaby. I'm all for this. -
I bet it was Hossa's idea for the press in Chicago to run that...

Bertuzzi states he will either stay with wings or retire
Datsyukian Geek replied to Lidstrom for life's topic in General
Well, let's look at it this way. Williams was brought in for $1.5 Million. He got 15 points in 44 games and was invisible in the playoffs so we won't worry about that. Just glancing through some of the free agent RW's heading to market soon, right away I find (don't groan) Maxim Afinogenov, who in comparison to Williams, played last year at $800K and played all season without serious injury and got 61 points. Now obviously after a season like that, he's going to get a raise -- and apparently an offer from Atlanta is already on the table for him to come back -- but even supposing he goes up to Williams' $1.5 Million, I'll take him over Jason 8 days out of 7! You throw him on the 1st/2nd line, maybe as redwingfan19 suggested you move Bert down to the third line to add more shifty offense, and with one move you're looking at a much scarier set of three lines. -

I agree with the Miller redundancy. I hate to say it, but I always find myself placing him last or almost last when trying to write up lines for next season, there's just too many options that could replace him or eventually surpass him. Like you said, he earned his keep. It's just crappy he did it when so many others did as well. -

It's a lot more possible when you stop trying to run 2 scoring lines and 2 checking lines. That's basically what we had last year, and the grit was spread too thin over the bottom 2 lines and neither was of any consequence. One or two guys in the lineup who are more geared to scoring would be all it takes to set up three dedicated scoring lines, that brings back the offensive depth and helps run the opposing team's D-Corp more ragged. It can be done, and I say it should be done. -

I still don't get how Kenny can justify not bringing in more offense. We never replaced the production we lost after 2008-2009, and Hudler will be rusty as s***, I don't expect SFA from him this season. Drop Lebda, Williams, and maybe someone else (Lilja's name keeps coming up) and get a G.D. scoring RW to work the 1st/2nd line. -
In a word: Absolutely. Things that man does...I just can't fathom it.

I can't wait to see how he does in Traverse City.

I've been following this on Twitter since the rumours started up. A couple of sources have 100% confirmed it: Steve is saying goodbye to Detroit, he's taken the Bolts GM position.

This was the play of the game for me. The Jimmy Howard fatality: The Gobble-Head.

Olympic break will be the great equalizer. If Detroit can't string some wins together post-Olympics...well...I think we better start looking to next season.

Agreed, where was the collapse by the D to shelter Howie after the shot? Nowhere, no help at all.
-
The problem with that is that Calgary has lost their last 7, I think it is? And they were only 1 point behind us coming into tonight. That skid is not going to continue, or even if it does, it won't last much longer. As someone above posted, it's getting to the point where we pretty much HAVE to bank on other teams losing their games to give us the chance to maintain a playoff spot. The West is too damn close for us to be blowing leads as we have been, and the injury excuse is almost out the window. We're getting guys back, and it's making little difference. I'm praying that, with time, the previously injured Wings will re-gel with the rest of the roster and start bringing about some better results. We need it.

No one added this one? Really? NOBODY? I know we lost that year, but this to me was the beginning of our rise to glory.

Agreed. Hell, at least Forsberg would have an excuse to be on his face instead of on his feet, WTF is up with Bertuzzi falling ass over tea-kettle all over the place?? The one last night was a joke, lol.

God I'm missing Franzen right now...

Will You Be Surprised if the Wings dont make the Playoffs?
Datsyukian Geek replied to RyanK's topic in General
Oi...two games in and people jumping ship...so easy to cheer for a team when they're winning, I suppose. Keep the faith and hold the line, we will be rewarded!! -
When I saw he got arrested, I figured the cabbie must've done something CRAZY like pull Kane's mouthguard out and throw it on the floor of his cab...
-
A. Men. I'll be dumbstruck if we lose another D-Man like this...*shakes head*

I also agree with the wait and see approach, let the youngin's show their stuff as many could surprise us, and just fill the gaps later on in the season.

Kenny should save our cap space until the trade deadline
Datsyukian Geek replied to hckypete96's topic in General
Since about halfway through day one of Free Agent Frenzy, I knew this was the route we would end up taking, and it actually doesn't bother me. Let the youngin's come up and get some ice time, and we can address concerns as we see them play out during the first part of the season. Yes, sign back OUR boys and pick up that last piece when we know what it is from trial and error.
