ah, it's been much too long. good to be back.
-
meh... never been a big foppa fan... and he's another center to boot. on an unrleated note, i liked what eklund said here:
-
meh... at least the price was right.
-
only because he is bigger than huds, and we were playing a big ducks team.
-
i'm saying that if it could be done, drop an offer sheet for penner and force anaheim's hand. if they match the offer, that pushes neids into retirement for sure. if they don't, we get that power forward we've been looking for. if by "exploding in our faces", you mean that other teams may go after our RFA's... well, they could always do that anyway. it's still legal after all.
-
exactly. offer sheets should be used as weapons in the new cap era. and i say we drop a bomb on the ducks.
-
as it has been mentioned in a few of the other "kenny holland" threads, the detroit red wings organization signed those 3 minor leaguers. i'm pretty sure holland wasn't too directly involved with those signings.
-
"groovy cool"?
-
if it can be done, i'm all for that. force anaheim's hand. either match the offer and push neids into retirement, or lose penner.

i think bertuzzi's history is a lot closer to pronger's than cheli's... but, i get what you're saying. still, usually when people say they hate bertuzzi, they often mean that they hate him both as a player and a person. that's not to say that this is true in reem's case, but whatever... i'm not trying to read between the lines.
-
looks like just plain 'ol "hate" and "dislike" to me, but whatever. i'm tired of talking about it. it's a done deal. big bert is gone. whoever wants to keep jugglin' his nuts, they can do it in anaheim. it's time to get over it.
-
i'm sure there are a lot of folks who would have liked to see that as well. but i'm also sure the majority of those people wouldn't want to sign bert to a 2/8m contract for that pleasure. it's obvious that the red wing front office, and most red wing fans here at lgw, didn't see enough in bert's play to justify such a contract either. he hasn't been the same player since his stint with the 'nucks, and his health is a HUGE question mark. i have no problem whatsoever with the fact that we didn't re-sign him under those terms. my frustration is that instead of showing faith in the red wing front office, you bash them for not trying hard enough to keep bert around. ilitch, devellano, holland, nil, yzerman, bowman, and babcock have shown us year after year that they know how to ice a championship caliber team. on the other hand, big bert has shown us nothing. i, for one, like our chances next season without bert. and i choose to give my accolades to those who actually deserve it.

it's different if you've always liked the guy. but if you've always "disliked" or "hated" the guy before he was a wing, then all of the sudden "love" the guy in his short and non-memorable stint as a wing, then i'd question your reasoning or sanity. it's not like the guy took a bullet for stevie or something while he was here. other than his "potential", what did bert do to deserve such admiration (and remember, we're coming from a perspective of someone who used to dislike him while he was still in vancouver)? sure, nobody needs to justify their reasoning to me, but i'm tired of all the whining about it. and i'm tired about people endlessly bashing holland for not making it happen. i'm pretty sure bert wouldn't have taken a 2/5m contract over a 2/8m contract just to stay in detroit. imo, anything over 2.5m/yr for him is overpaying. besides, i'm sure bert is much more comfortable being himself in burke's system anyway. to say it was only about the term of the contract is a bit naive.
-
yeah, you got me pegged. i'm jealous that i don't have a bunch of groupies all over my nuts for being a shadow of a shell of my former self. that's exactly it.
-
ok, so more "depressed" than "deeply saddened". my bad. point being, bert didn't do anything as a red wing to deserve the accolade and admiration he's been getting. does he have the potential of returning to be a dominant player again? sure, but there is also a real chance that those days have long passed him by. i guess time will tell, and holland didn't want to gamble 4mil per year to find out. here's a good joke about potential versus reality:
-
don't get me wrong, i was happy (albeit skeptical due to his history) when bert signed but i'm definitely not going to shed any tears or lose any sleep now that he's gone. for me, it's like he was never here to begin with. to be so deeply saddened by the departure of a player who never really was a part of the team just seems a bit silly to me. but whatever...
-
so you go from hating the guy to loving the guy in less than 31 hardly memorable games? how "genuine" was his comments about wanting to stay in detroit? it all sounds a bit asinine to me. geez, what would you do if pronger ever bacame a wing? how did you feel when hatcher was gone after his short stint with the wings? my guess is probably not nearly the same that you feel about bert now. in the grand scheme of things, big bert won't even be a footnote in red wing history. and he won't be missed by many either.
-
fix it for ya.
-
i'd like to see us make a good sized offer just to drive up penner's price when the ducks are forced to match... but if for some asinine reason they don't match... well, worse things could happen than giving up a few picks for penner.
-
simply put, bert was barely in a red wing uni last season and played a very, very minor role in our playoff run. based on his actual contributions as a red wing, i just don't understand your obsession with him. did you feel the same way about bert when he was still with the 'nucks?
-
meh, i never liked bert anyway. and especially not at $4M per year. well, i hope the duck's PK is freakin' stellar next year, cuz they'll need to be. and without nieds to boot. and reem, seriously... what is it about bert that has you all creamy? i just don't see it.
-
if that was the case, why wouldn't every player do the same thing just in case they wanted to come back? i would imagine that there's rules against this somewhere.

gi?!? what kind of name is "gi"?
