i think you meant helene elliott. hellen st. james writes for the freep, no? fixed it for ya.

if the ducks are worried about the spartans, aztecs, and bulldogs stealing their thunder, they have some serious problems.

back in the good 'ol clutch' & grab days of the nhl, the 1st goal was probably more significant. but now it's much less important. naturally there are a few teams that play unquestionably better with the lead (for whatever reason), and for them it's probably more significant than to others, but overall, it doesn't really matter that much anymore.

that comment was actually meant to address some of the local sports beat writers who have been proclaiming anahiem as the new hockeytown. i didn't mean to infer that you ever said that or agreed to that line of thinking. sorry if i wasn't clear. i'm sure that the ducks have their share of die-hard fans, and i have no doubt that you're one of them. but if i were to guess i would bet that the kings have a much bigger socal fanbase. as bad as they've been for more than a decade, they still get pretty good attendance. imagine if they had the same success the ducks have been enjoying these last few years. in my opinion, the ducks have a lot more "casual" fans and i think that shows in the low turnout at the ponda on saturday.

the times, the oc register, and the ducks own website all reported 15k. the local tv news outlets all reported around 10k. i'm guessing the actual number to be closer to 13k. that's almost unexcusable when you can sell out amost 30 consecutive games at over 17k people a pop, and can't even match that for a free, outdoor nhl championship celebration (the first ever in california history for that matter). the angels world series parade(s) in '02 drew well over 100k (and a good number of those people actually paid to get into disneyland to see that half of the parade) so it's not like the anaheim infrastructure couldn't handle it. if the kings were to ever win the cup, there would definitely be a parade and the would definitely get over 15k even if anschutz and roski didn't organize anything at all. don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that just because there wasn't a big turnout at the ponda that the ducks don't deserve being champions. but, let's set the record straight... anaheim is not the new hockeytown. not even close. well over 100k.

i'll give you the "elitism" part, but this place is a million times more respectable than the ducks forum. does that place even have mods? edit: wtf? every time i type the ducks forum name it gets replaced with "disney.com".

channels 2, 4, and 7 all estimated just over 10k... the oc register, the la times, and the ducks official website all estimated around 15k the ponda seats about 17k. edit: added links.

nbc averaged a 1.6 nielsen rating for its three stanley cup telecasts of the scf. game 5 actually had a lower rating than game 4, and game 3 was nbc's lowest-rated prime time show ever (1.1). even more troubling, the major newspapers in several cities did not even bother to staff the finals. the new york times covered just game 1.

http://www.anaheimducks.com/press/feature/...705&id=1707 i don't see anything wrong with the practice rink the ducks were sent to while in detroit. and i would expect their own practice rink at home to be much nicer than the visitor's practice rink at another city. that only makes sense. also, keep in mind that it's detroit we're talking about. things aren't quite as swanky there as they are in the o.c.

i think the true turning point in the series was the 1:38 of 5-on-3 we had in game 4 (keep in mind that the ducks were minus pronger that game too). if you recall, we only mustered up 1 lousy sog during that entire pp. a goal there, and the series woulda been 3-1 going back to detroit. talk about sticking your d*ck in a gift horse's mouth.
-
do we really need another defenseman?
-
i'm not even going to watch this one. the sight of pronger lifting the cup will make my eyes bleed.

after seeing how lame the sens are playing in the scf, why wouldn't drapes be pissed? i'm sure that last 47 seconds in game 5 will haunt them all summer (it still sours my stomach when i think about it). we win that game and we should be planning a parade instead of getting tee times. stupid freakin' 47 seconds. and where would sergei be the last decade without the wings? i think the wings has had much more success without fedorov than fedorov has without the wings.
-
the sens are going out like a bunch of boogers. damn 47 seconds.
-
hypocrisy at it's finest.
-
i'm sure whoever got banned well deserved it. team affiliation had zero to do with it.
-
hopefully the new owner will bring some much needed class to that organization.
-
my favorite playoff game memory was using my free "go ducks" towel to dry some eyes when the wings won game-3 5-0 at the ponda... but alas, the duckies eventually got the last laugh on me.
-
seriously?... i always thought it was some stupid inside joke that only duck fans would understand... if you don't even know what that means, that's scary. anyway, good luck to you guys (although i won't be rootin' for ya'll). thanks for being a gracious guest at LGW.com. hope you'll come back often.
