I'm not surprised and I don't care about the decision. Of course it is a bit bizarre and nonsensical, but it'll give Dats and Lids a bit longer of a break. The question now becomes...Will Datsyuk be a Byng contender? Has anyone won it and been suspended in the season? I realize that a Byng trophy is not on Datsyuk's mind and it doesn't really matter, but its just a thought.

I think what we're going to see here is some type of Lecavalier deal. His deal is (which kicks in next year) 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10. 8.4, 4, 1.5. 1....with a cap hit of 7.727 Million. This to me, seems like a decent option. Z gets his big pay-day, the cap hit doesn't suffer, and all parties are satisfied. However, I'm not quite clear on if you can pay monies to your active roster that amount in excess of the cap, but having the cap average be within the cap. Does anyone know about this??? On a purely ridiculous standpoint. We could offer Z a 12 year 80 Million contract as follows... 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 3, 2...which gives us a cap hit of 6.7 Million.

I think the argument people have is that our 4th line is not producing and that some enforcers on other teams have more points than our bottom liners...at least at this point. So to some, the argument of having a 1-dimensional enforcer means more than having a 4th liner who can't fight and lights the lamp rarely. I for one would rather have a tough guy in the lineup over Kopecky....

The Bruins have a cake schedule though. They don't travel outside of their time zone very much this season, and play sub 500 teams quite a bit. Last season, I believe they only traveled outside the eastern time zone on one road trip and that was at the beginning of the season and from the middle of October to the end of the season, the Bruins never left the eastern time zone. I'm not using the schedule as an excuse per se, but you have to factor stuff like this in...

Precisely... It seems to be a custom around here for people to whine about a signing unless its a complete steal and even then sometimes complain.

Flip isn't going anywhere. The people that are complaining about Flip's contract are the same people that were complaining about Datsyuk's contract.

He's a steal for 1.2 mil. People need to realize that not everybody on the roster is going to rack up 75+ points and be a superstar. It can be easy to rag on Sammy but there are 29 other teams out there that would like to have him on their roster at that price. Overall hes very under-rated and people should give him more credit.

None of these questions can begin to be answered until we have a 2009-2010 cap set in stone.

So now that the month of November has passed, the wings look to the month of December. We only have 4 road games in Dec (2 b2b games) as opposed to 7 road games in Nov. Hopefully this, relatively speaking, light schedule will help the Wings with recovery and maybe get them back into a groove. It would be nice to see the lines shuffled around a bit, and to see a couple of prospects get some ice. I'm thinking this would be a good time to call up Downey, but I'm not very optimistic about it. Thoughts?

I really don't understand this. If you don't think that Laraque isn't a warrior and superior fighter than you truly are delusional. I am one of the few Lilja supporters here, but to hint that he's a top fighter in this league and that people wouldn't want to dance with Lilja after he had a fight with Souray is ridiculous beyond belief. Saying Laraque isn't a warrior is like saying Datsyuk isn't a good puck handler or that Scott Stevens didn't hit people hard.

You're delusional. Laraque would murder Lilja in a fight. Lilja gets in like two fights a year and wrestles, while Laraque is a proven warrior and fights the leagues best on a consistent basis.
