    9/24 X-GDT: Canadiens 3, Red Wings 2 (SO)

Yeah, I agree with you on them playing together during the game. My above comment was directed at why they were given the nod during the shoot-out. I think it would have been a better move to give all the shootout slots to prospects instead of the regulars, win or lose.

I don't know why Pav, Hossa, and Homer got the nod. I was expecting the prospects to get a shot... Oh well, at least Leino got a chance.

That Datsyuk deal is looking better and better now. Remember a couple seasons back how everyone thought Holland overpaid?

    Woo hoo

Does anyone know when there's going to be a Wings parade or party in Sweden? I'd imagine them setting something pretty big up there.

    Wings fans in London?

Hey, just wondering if there are any wings fans from London around. I'll be arriving in London for a work abroad program on July 1st, and was wondering if any locals knew of any bars, or pubs, or some place where I can watch the Wings games. I'd imagine it might present some problem due to time differences, and I'm not sure where I can catch the game. If anyone knows of anything please let me know. Thanks.

    Stanley Cup rating?

That may be true, but Michigan is way bigger of a sports state. I know they like their hockey in Minnesota too, but they lack passion for baseball, basketball, and football. Michigan totally owns Minnesota from a sports standpoint and hockey is just as big in Michigan, and in my opinion a bit bigger. I had a chance to play Junior A in Minnesota a few years back and I was thinking that the level of competition and interest would be bigger in Minnesota than in Michigan. Haha the state of hockey??? Yeah Right... I've played on wayyyy more competitive teams in my day in Michigan than Minnesota. The college, junior, and local teams in Michigan are alot more competitive and play better hockey than our friends in Minnesota. I'm not trying to degrade or downplay Minnesota hockey, they have great things going on there. I'm just speaking from first hand experience and my experiences playing hockey in both states.

    Stanley Cup rating?

It is impressive. NHL would never beat out NBA in ratings in any other city in the country.

    Wings fans in London?

Cool. Thanks guys. I guess I'll just do some pub searching or hope that my flat has a TV that will get the game. If all goes well, then we can all have a pint at the local establishment or something.

    Wings/Blackhawks outdoor game @ Wrigley

I'd rather have a doubleheader at the BigHouse Michigan vs. Michigan State Red Wings vs. Leafs Ive also heard Babs talking about this possible match up, and I think the Red management wants this to happen to. Why don't they do this? Attendance records? USA vs Canada? Two excellent collegiate programs? It would showcase hockey better than anything else with the exception of Boston at New York at Yankee stadium, but that doesn't look realistic at this point. Not that I'm unhappy with Chicago vs Detroit, but we've seen them play so much these last years, and its time for a change. I'm happy for a Wrigley field thing, its cool, but I'd rather wait so we can host the mother of all hockey games.

I've lived in Boston now for 5 years and I completely agree. Prior to 2004 the Red Sox fan base was nothing compared to today. Everyone just loved to cheer for them in 2004 World Series because they felt sorry for them and they finally actually ended up winning after almost a century. The Red Sox nation crap is total B.S. You don't see Oakland or St. Louis running that crap, and they both have more titles. The Celtics fan base also was surprisingly non existent in Boston until this season. Last season bars wouldn't even play their games because of how awful they were. The same goes for the Bruins. I don't see any support for the Bruins anywhere. You wonder if hockey actually existed in this city. I went to the Wings and Bruins game this season at the Garden in Boston and half the people there were Red Wings fans. Their attendance figures are low as well. The Patriots cheat and are scumbags and when they don't cheat they end up loosing the Super Bowl. While I do like the Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics I just can't get into them because of the obnoxious fans. Boston fans only like their teams when they're doing good, and they like their franchise more than the sport itself. Pathetic.

Place for a good meal & shuttle to game?

I know everyone has there own traditions and pre-game rituals, but after 20 years of going down to the Joe, I've realized the best way in terms of parking, shuttle rides, eating, etc. Park across the street from either Nemo's or Hoots, It's free. They are both bars and are located a block from Tiger stadium on Michigan Ave. Nemo's was actually rated the 3rd best sports bar in America by Sports Illustrated, and they have GREAT pub food, and theres always a party there before any Detroit sporting event. Also both Nemo's and Hoots both have a shuttle to the Joe, and you can drink beer in the shuttle on the way to the game. The Hoots bus drivers give out free beer during the shuttle rides. The Nemo's shuttle is $4 round trip and the Hoots bus is free. These shuttle drivers are absolutely crazy and will get you the Joe faster than any other shuttle. They run red lights, cut people off, and take their "own little shortcuts." Don't worry the shuttle is a giant school bus and no one dares to get in the way of a Nemo's bus, even Cops are aware but they let Nemo's get away with it. After the game is over the shuttle is right there by the Gordie Howe entrance and you can get on it almost immediately following the game. Again, they will just plow throw traffic to get you back to the bar very quickly, whilst giving away free beer during the ride. Once you get back to Nemo's then you car is parked right there in front of Michigan Ave and you can hop on the freeway instantly. This is the best way and you avoid 100% of traffic and you pay almost nothing. Nothing is more convenient, quicker, and cheaper than this method. As most of you know, parking and traffic anywhere in Detroit during a sporting event can be horrendous. Please don't get caught parking in Greektown, Cobo, or the parking garages because they are a waste of money and there are easier, and cheaper ways of parking. Not to mention, you'll be in traffic jams forever. Oh another thing. Mike Illitch came into Nemo's after the wings won the cup, and brought the Stanley Cup into the bar and let people hold it and everything. It was pretty awesome. He does it every time the wings win, but doesn't make announce it to the public. You just have to catch him at the right time...

I formally apologize to Mikael Samuelsson

When Sammy scored that first wrap around goal. I jumped up and spilled beer all over myself and everywhere. (I'm sure this happened to someone else as well)

Tigers show for support for Red Wings

I was watching the Tigers game between an intermission and the announcers mentioned all 3 teams (Wings, Pistons, Tigers) sold out. Certainly a huge showing of the fans passion for sports.
