Damn... I really hope that signing McCarty isnt the only addition that we'll be doing... I really think that Feds is coming back now, and maybe we pick up....Stuart?

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=230511&hubname=nhl so let the talks begin.... I respect his decision, and this will add much more heat to the Hossa contention.

did not expect. it will be interesting to see if he is productive and healthy, or sitting out, ineffective and injured.

Why Can't Someone Do This to Phaneuf or Pronger?

Sorry for bombarding these boards with yet another Marian Hossa thread, but i just wanted to pass this info on... http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AuCo...p&type=lgns Quote from the article: Don Waddell (Atlantas GM), said he'd be more interested in players than draft picks if he decides to deal Hossa. "I know with all the teams I've talked to what we would be interested in," he said. "If we ever get to that point, I'm pretty confident there would be multiple teams that would be very interested in Marian." Hossa already has turned down the Thrashers' offer for a four-year deal worth $28 million. He has tried to avoid commenting on his contract talks with Atlanta, but he said before the All-Star game his decision will be influenced by his confidence in the Thrashers' ability to remain competitive. "It's not about money," Hossa said. "I just want to make sure I do the right decision. When I sign for long term, I don't want to sign and then we're not winning." Thoughts???

yeah i don't want to pull a "new england patriots " this season. btw, i was at the wings game here in boston. ive never seen a bigger group of idiots then boston sports fans. seems like they like their sports franchises more than the actual game itself.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AjBz...p&type=lgns What do you guys think about this? i personally think that its a crock of s***. I mean, what better way to return then to come back almost halfway through the season while your team is in a slump. That doesn't seem very leader-like to me. To sit around and jack-off for a few months pondering retirement is absurd. A real captain would be with their team from the beginning to the end or he wouldn't be with them at all. And Niedermayer seems to be caught in the middle, and come back when he feels like it. It will be a confidence boost for the Ducks, but in the same way all the players must be thinking "Why so long? Why couldn't you lead us from the start?" Oh well, at least that dirtbag Pronger will no longer be wearing that "C"

I think part of the reason why he left was so he wouldn't have to accept a lower price than what he was asking for. He probably was looking for around 3+ mil/season, and when he figured that no one would pay that he just left to prove a point and not dumb down to those offers. I'm surprised to see that he actually signed in Russia for less cash, after being a stickler for money in the NHL. I figured someone would overpay for him, or he'd just end up back with the wings at some point. Damn though, he would of been a great addition to an already solid squad. Raf/Lids Markov/Kronwall Cheli/Lilja Lebda would of been dynamite!!!

I really like the idea of Maltby-Drake-Downey for #4. I think it'd be a great 4th line for Wednesday.

I think they should play a game in northern europe. Norway, Sweden, and Finland would eat up NHL tickets if a team came out there. Red Wings in Stockholm. Seems to be a sure sellout and fan-favorite to me. Maybe another year?

no big deal...look at who wasnt dressed. only preseason.

Maybe Probert and Timberlake will fight.... I wonder who would win???

We just tried that with Bertuzzi and look at how well it worked out. I suppose you could make a case and say to try again with a different player, but I don't think that its going to make a difference. Detroit DOES need an enforcer. That hit on Holmstrom was unacceptable and uncalled for. Granted, we played Red Wings hockey that game and put up via scoreboard, but enough is enough. No one stood up after that, and it showed. That is only one instance and there are many more situations like that have plaqued Detroit since McCarty left. The addtion of an enforcer would fill that gap and help out issues that are not being addressed, and IMO being ignored/shunned. The addition of a tough guy will not wins us cups, but it will protect our guys and add toughness to a dominant suqad. Downey is not an enforcer, he probably wont even make the team now (I hope he does). He is however, a great crash and bang guy, and is willing to protect his teammates. He would be a good fit this year until the team finds someone more dominant. At least we would have him in the other teams face if the other team took a cheapshot at our players. a 4th line of: Drake - Kopecky - Downey. would add some grit, and throwing them on the ice during the right situations would electrify the team. I do think that the Red Wings management is the best in the game, but I thinki their making a mistake by not filling this gap. I honestly don't see how people could think the Red Wings DO NOT need an enforcer...
