    6th Defenseman

I still think Lilja would be the safe move here. If he can return at his current cap hit, or perhaps even lower, then I think it would be a good move. If Lilja could sign for 1 million, then I don't think there would necessarily be a better option. I'm thinking Holland targets a gritty 3rd/4th liner, and that will end up being our only "new" acquisition.

    Holmstrom signs 2 year extension

This is great news! Great cap hit, I was expecting it to be slightly higher. Next up...Bertuzzi ?

    Holmstrom signs 2 year extension

I think it will be a 2 year/4 million dollar deal.

    Ville Leino Appreciation Thread

He led the Flyers forwards in ice time with 23+ mins!

    Ville Leino Appreciation Thread

Leino gets another big goal. Supposedly, he just set a Flyers rookie goal scoring franchise record. I'm feeling he gets the OT goal too.

Boston entertaining offers for #2 pick overall

So... Filppula, Helm, Ericsson/Kindl, Wings first round, perhaps a Wings first round from 2011 as well? Seems like an awful lot to give up. It wouldn't really make sense for either teams to be honest. Though, from living in Boston, I get to witness the debacles first hand. I wouldn't be surprised if something ridiculous happened to that organization regarding ridiculous transactions. Anyways, I wasn't proposing this trade. I was just wondering what a realistic scenario would look like. Judging by the 2nd round picks of the last ten years, it does look like my original proposition lacked quality. Good to know. Anyways, I've seen much more preposterous trade proposals on these very boards.

Boston entertaining offers for #2 pick overall

Does anyone have a realistic scenario of what it would take to make this happen. Would it be like... Helm, Ericsson, Wings 1st round pick (Do the Wings even have a 1st round pick this year?)

Cap could go up by 2 million

I'm surprised that people think Lidstrom would take less then 5 million. There is NO way that happens. I think he will sign for 6-6.5 and that's a discount. The team is going to be the exact same next year. The only difference is +Hudler and -Williams. Big changes will come in 2011-2012...big changes.
  9. The team will be identical to that of last season with the exception of the addition of Hudler and the subtraction of Williams. Big changes will come the following season, once our 4-ring club members retire. Hudler-Pav-Fil Mule-Z-Bert Cleary-Helm-Eaves Homer-Abby-Miller Draper Lids-Raf Kro-Stu Lil-E Kindl Howie Ozzie

    History Will be Made

No one should be surprised at what Leino is doing in Philly. He has good offensive instincts and is a good player. I remember only a couple of people sticking up for him around here, and now look at all of you. All it took was him playing with good players. Also, I think Philly's toughness has rubbed off on him and he digs a lot more now. Leino is a good fit for the Flyers. Kenny made the right choice at the time, considering the circumstances. I just can't see why he signed Jason Williams, it was a bad signing. Now, since Kenny says he wants a gritty fourth liner, that means that he's going to pick up a 35+ year old to fill that role. FYI...the wings still have never won a cup without some type of enforcer on the team. Whether, it's a coincidence or not is a different story, but that's another debate.

    Homer Contract Disussion

I could see Kenny offering a 3 year/5 million or 2 year/4 million. I'd be surprised if we got Homer for any cheaper.

    Luxury Tax System

The whole idea of a cap is ridiculous in the first place. A luxury tax would be better than what we currently have, but it's not a solution. Basically, teams should be able to spend what ever they want. Big market teams should not be penalized because hockey is a big deal in their cities. If a team has a rabid fan base, and can dish out tens of millions more than their competition then they should be able to do so.

    Boston/Philly Game 7

Ahh...this is great. For those of you that don't live in Boston, then you don't know how good this feels. I can see why people that don't live here would root for the Bruins, but not me. By living in Boston, any outside sport enthusiast will develop a keen hatred for all things regarding Boston sports fans. Everyone here has been giving me crap about the WIngs losing. The joke is on them, because I have enough ammunition for a decade now.

    Kirk Maltby, Atlanta Thrasher?

I know people won't like this, but I think the Wings should sign him as the 13th forward at the league minimum.
  15. link I don't like the sound of this. Although, everyone, including the Red Wings management, believes that he'll be back for another year. Hopefully, this isn't a case of everyone being overly optimistic. I don't want to this to be analogous to a little kid thinking he gets a certain Christmas present, but then wakes up and looks under the tree, and realizes that it isn't there. Meanwhile, I'll hold my breath...

Ilitch Says Wings Likely To Stay At The Joe

Illitch wants to build a new arena, but he wants the city to help with the funding (AHAHAHAHAHAH!). He's been stressing patience with the issue, and won't make a move until everything is perfect. From what I hear, the Wings will be building a new rink behind the FOX. If this happen, the downtown Detroit arena will have 3 sporting teams within several hundred feet of each other. This would be something. Just imagine if the Pistons move downtown, having all 4 sporting franchises right next to each other! That would be awesome, and would spur development in that area. What ever happens, I hope that the Wings new arena is state of the art. There's no excuse for the Wings new home to NOT be the best in the entire league, both for players and fans. I hope that when a rink is finally built, that it blows all other rinks out of the water. Hopefully, it has all of the contemporary features that enhance the venue, yet still has that old school vibe that brings charm. Also it needs to be the biggest venue. 23,000 plus!!! I cannot wait till this happens.

    ECSF Game 6

It's amazing that the Habs squeak into the playoffs and are on the verge of eliminating another top eastern conference team. It would be nice to see them in the finals, but I don't want them getting another cup...they need to share. Still though, I think the Pens will take this series.

WCSF Game 5 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Sharks 2

I don't understand how anyone could think this was a good season. There's no such thing as a good season unless the Wings win it all.

Thanks for the Great Season, Detroit!

There's no such thing as a great season if the Wings don't win the cup. Terrible season.

WCSF Game 5 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Sharks 2

Well you can bet that the Sharks are going to get more PP opportunities in the 3rd. If Howard stays strong, and our PK shuts them down then I like our chances. The Wings have outplayed the Sharks 5on5, and they can't beat us unless the get PP goals. I have the feeling that the next goal decides the game...and that it will be a flukey goal.

WCSF Game 5 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Sharks 2

Wings are definitely getting outplayed. Howard has looked good. As long as our PK is strong, and Howard keeps it up, then I think we're in good shape.

Luongo Not the Answer for Vancouver

Yes, Luongo is one of the most over rated hockey players in the entire NHL. I've been saying this for a while now, and I have no idea how he manages to negate this stereotype. I wish that Canada didn't win gold so that I could say that Luongo hasn't won anything. Although, he wasn't, at all, for any reason, a part of Canada's Olympic success. That would be Drew Doughty.

    Free Agent Wish List

link This is the first time that I've seen, in writing, that Holland wants to resign Bertuzzi. I know Bert wants to return, and I even remember him saying, "I don't know why I ever left in the first place," earlier in the season. Reports are indicating Lidstrom will resign. If all this is true, then I'm not anticipating anything different for the Wings next season. Basically, it will be Hudler in and Williams out.
