Alright. The Wings have played nice long enough. No more f@&*ing around. Go. Wings.

Remind me who the classless one is again? Congratulations. You've managed to break just about every forum rule in three consecutive posts. There's really an elegant simplicity in the way you do it the third time.

Don't say what? That last night isn't an isolated occurrence, but is apparently part of a pattern of potentially deadly sports-related violence in the area? Sounds like an important cautionary tale to me. My post wasn't meant to be taken as we'll never get our comeuppance. Really? Exactly how do you justify your high horse when you think nothing of making horribly offensive statements about Mexicans and people in Nashville? Your post makes you sound just as bad as the "trash" you complain about.

Hey, at least no one's died at a Ducks game this year like one has at an Angels game. Yet.

I think what some people are missing here is that this was the correct call according to the rule book and league instructions to officials. The mistake was in Watson's positioning that caused him to lose sight of the puck, not the call itself. The 'intent to blow' rule makes sense in that there's a delay between when a ref decides to stop the play and when he can physically blow the whistle. What I disagree with is that the play is unreviewable in instances when the puck is in the net *before* the whistle sounds, and hence the players haven't let up yet. Treat it like a play where there's a question whether the puck is over the goal line or is kicked/tipped with a high stick/etc.--the ref talks with the War Room during the review and explains how he saw the play, and if there's indisputable video (and in this case audio) proof that the puck was never covered and was in the net before the whistle, allow the goal. Otherwise, the call on the ice stands.

That's just a wee bit of an unfair generalization... Yeah, probably wasn't the smartest thing to egg on a group of belligerent fans, but no one should ever be attacked or have their property damaged because of a friggen' hockey game. There were police, including mounted police, all over the place after the game. Apparently directing traffic is more important than protecting people. Sorry you had to go through that ShanahanMan.

The problem is that when a whistle is blown players let up. So if the whistle goes before the puck is in the net, you can't do much about that. However, on the disallowed goal tonight, the whistle went after the puck is in the net, so it was the dreaded 'intent to blow' rule. It's one thing if the goalie has the puck covered, the other team is whacking away at it, and it goes in before the ref has the chance to blow the whistle. But when the ref so clearly has it wrong and the puck is in the net before the whistle actually goes, it's ridiculous. It seems like there ought to be some discretion in instances like this and it shouldn't be an unreviewable call.

Yep! Nice to see Rick find his stride, and I'm happy to see Clete back up with the team. That was a whole lot of ugly for Minny's defence tonight...

Things were cool in my section, though I do look pretty badass with my playoff beard, so that probably helped keep a lid on things. People behind me talked the entire game about houses, boats, cars, and some apparent insurance fraud involving a house fire they committed, and noticed at a couple points a hockey game was going on, but that was all. Sorry to anyone who had a bad experience on top of a brutal call and a piss poor effort by the Wings.

Headed to the Ponda now. Go Wings!

Besides the points others have listed, is there a rule you can only have one big body on a line? As game 2 wore on, the Z-Cleary-Franzen line finally started to neutralize the Getzlaf line, had them pinned in their own end, and scored the tying goal against them at even strength. A few periods doesn't mean that this line has completely solved the Getlaf line, but they took a big step. The only valid point you could make about Cleary's offence is that he's scored "only" 2 goals in 6 games. But on that line he's not counted on as much for that. Mule has 4 goals and Z has 3, so I think Cleary is working just fine on that line.

Full 60 mins this time, boys. Game 2 shows what can happen if you give anything less. Go Wings!

WCSF GAME 2 GDT: Ducks 4 at Red Wings 3 (3OT)

Not gonna lie, that was a big win the Anaheim there. This series is starting out just like 2007. Now the Wings need to respond. Let's Go Red Wings! -

Everyone looks gassed. The Wings just need to find a way. Just keep getting pucks on the net and so a better job looking for rebounds. -

Let's hope for a more complete effort--the Wings need a full 60 mins this time. Keep capitalizing on the PP and doing a better job containing the Getzlaf line are keys. Skate to the throat boys! (I mean the figuratively. Don't stoop to their level ) -
That's a bit of an insult to nine-year-old girls. It does betray a certain frustration that opposing coaches resort to these tactics, though. Unfortunately, it also seems effective; Therrien certainly got a few more calls to go his way the following game.

It's not ridiculous. It just means that you don't have carte blanche to run a goalie just because the puck's in the crease or a goal has been scored. Franzen was walking a line there on that play--usually that doesn't get called, but sometimes it does. Bayda's running over Thomas was more blatant and was a clear penalty, even though it was after the goal.
-
You can still get called for it, even after a goal. That happened in the Bs-Canes game tonight, when on the same play Jokinen scored (which counted) and Bayda was whistled for interference. Thomas wasn't even in the crease on the play.

I'm happy with the win. The Wings had to shake off the rust a bit in the first, and the Ducks bottled them in their own end a bit at the start of the third, but the Wings found a way to get the W. Fil's and Helm's lines were great all night and were a big difference. Stating the obvious, but the Wings need to do a better job containing the Getzlaf line. THis reminded me a bit of game 1 in 2007, actually: Wings win a game without bringing their A game. Now, we need a different result in game 2 this time around.

I wouldn't be surprised. The league's been cracking down on hits to the head these playoffs. Brown won't get as much as Brashear, but I'd be surprised if he didn't get a couple games. FWIW, the guys on Vs. that it was suspension worthy as well.
