Exactly. How so? There are questions about Ozzie's play, who's under contract thru 2011 . Conklin is a UFA after this year. Without Howard, that leaves a completely untested Larsson. That doesn't sound like a lot of depth to me. I agree Howard's running out of time and has been inconsistent and a bit disappointing. But like you said, the deal sounds all wrong for someone the Wings still have hopes for.

I'm not sure I buy that deal. After all the effort the Wings have put into developing Howard, are they going to trade him to rent Neil after one bad start?

I'm not sure of the specifics of Calgary's cap position. But Leopold makes $1,500,000 this year. Edit: Which is just under a prorated $350,000 cap hit, if my math is right.

Leopold gives the Flames some really nice depth on defence. If they do add Jokinen as well, they definitely are a better team now.

You think so? His production has dropped each of the past three years. He'd give the Flames a bit more scoring depth, but I don't think he's the support Iginla and Cammalleria need to really make them a force. They would still be relying on Kipper to take them far.

Nice to see Buffalo re-sign Connolly after re-signing Miller earlier in the year. They've had a tough go of it recently with retaining players.

There are no easy first round matchups, at least on paper. That being said, they're an easier opponent than some of the alternatives (Anaheim, Dallas, Minnesota) and are nice and close. Edit: grammar
