PS 2008 Stanley Cup Final Photoshop War: Pittsburgh Penguins
Third Man In replied to Matt's topic in Hall of Fame
No no, as you are all missing the point. As the pictures clearly show, Homer's stick is very near to making contact with Fleury (albeit while out of the crease), while Dupuis' stick is entirely out of the crease and is in no way making contact with Osgood. This incontrovertibly supports O’Halloran's explanation of the call.- 561 replies

I checked the rulebook on NHL.com today to look up the goalkeeper interference rule in the wake of last night's game. I thought you all might find interesting what I saw:- 561 replies

Why You Should Watch the Stanley Cup Finals
Third Man In replied to Lovin Jiri Fischer's topic in General
29. The best officiating in sports. -
19-3? Keep it up, Tigers! Hell, change your game uniforms to red and white too while you're at it!
-
Nicely done you two! I mean that in all honesty and I'm not raggin on either of you--I'm taking both you're quotes in context, and they served their purpose to get these two going. Now if you two can just tag-team on Flip in game 2 QFT. He hit Malkin a couple times and took him off his game. In fact, on the Pens' board they are complaining about this--not that Kronners' hits were illegal, but just that he took Malkin off his game.

I'm so proud of this team tonight. Responding after a bulls*** disallowed goal to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The Sammy-Drapes-Drake line remains dominant! Dano: 1 game w/o face guard and 1 goal Hank had a nice goal, and of course OZZIE OZZIE with the shutout! It will be interesting to see how the Pens respond. This is the first hole they've been in all playoffs, and while they can play better, so can the Wings.
-
It will be interesting to see how this one starts. There's a decent chance the first period and even the entire game will be tentative since these teams haven't seen each other in nearly two seasons and might require a feeling out process. Especially if the game stay scoreless for awhile. Wings just need to stay patient and play there game. Let's Go Wings! Just play a full 60 minutes tonight.

Let's Go Red Wings!  Crosby touch this! :octo: *splat* :octo: *splat*

You'll notice they only did it once...

And Turco complained because the shirts were black and the puck was black and, well, you get my drift.

RWNW: SCF Game 4 (4:30pm PST) Gathering
Third Man In replied to VladyIBELIEVE16's topic in Group Events
I see how it is. It went from "you learn quick" to "me schooling TMI". In my recollection, it was very close and more like "Celebrity Death Match" than getting schooled. -
FWIW, if your creation was sent in under someone else's name and you would like to attempt to get credited for your work, the email for submissions for the contest is puck@freepress.com Number 11 is strikingly familiar as well. When I saw that last night I thought it was kinda cool, but I was also like, "wtf?" But maybe the intent wasn't malicious.

Pittsburgh fish market: No octopi for Wings fans
Third Man In replied to captainsteviey's topic in General
lol I love the gamesmanship this time of year. Good for him. All in good fun. Good idea. This opens the door for an octopi blackmarket. Anyone going to Pittsburgh for the games, buy some octopi in Detroit, put them in a cooler, and sell them to Wings fans going to the game. Make it happen, people! -
Pound the Red Wings. The Wings are an older team, and they're soft. Hit them every chance you get: on the forecheck, in your defensive zone, and in the neutral zone. Their older players won't stand up to it over the grind of a seven game series, and the rest of the team is comprised of soft, European players that will completely capitulate under the physical pressure. Did I mention that they're old and soft? Oh yeah, and don't worry about Osgood. Remember that puck he let in from center ice in overtime of game 5 against Dallas in 1998? Clearly, he's the worst goalie every to play in two Cup Finals.

Honestly, I don't think Babs is gonna worry too much about matchups. All four lines backcheck well. Yes, he'll probably avoid having Cheli/Lebs/Lils out there against the Crosby or Malkin lines, but that might be about it. There have been times these playoffs (like game 6 of the Dallas series) where Babs has just decided to roll 4 lines, and those have been some of the Wings' best games. He'll matchup a bit more at home with the last change, but in Pittsburgh I don't think he'll worry about it.
-
So uh, ThreeRiversFan--have we answered your question yet?
-
Good news all around! We can't expect (but we can hope!) that Mule will pick up right where he left off, but he should still be dangerous enough to create the serious matchup problems the Avs faced. Cleary should get a big boost, even if it's mental, from playing without the guard. I don't think he'll be his old self until he has a chance in the off season to put on the muscle he lost earlier, but I'll take it. Go get 'em Dano! And congrats Drapes! Probably gonna matchup at times with Crosby, so a few days with a newborn crying daughter ought to prepare him well for game one

Coast Guard had to pick him up on Walpole Island. He was promptly taken into custody. Seems Canada wouldn't grant him refugee status. ggwizard...hilarious! Edit: we need a GIF animation of that, stat!- 561 replies

A lot of people are jealous of Sammy's mad skillz. Behind Zetterberg and Datsyuk, he's the straw stirring the drink in Detroit. Franzen was scoring at a goal a game pace playing on line with him, and then Draper and Drake both score in game 6 of the WCF after Sammy was moved to their line. But seriously, yes, Sammy takes waaaaay too much grief around here.
-
Let me add to this. What has impressed me most about the Pens so far these playoffs has been their ability to do precisely this. They got leads against the Rags and Flyers and then completely frustrated their ability to come back. Detroit has more experience than those two teams so should be more resilient if behind, but the Pens need to keep doing what they've been doing. Stay patient, try to get the lead, and as NFM says, don't change too much and start pressing if the Wings get a lead.

LGW needs a whipping boy at all times. The Wings didn't resign Lang after last season. Sammy boldly stepped in to fill his shoes.
