WCF Game 6 GDT: Red Wings 4, Stars 1

    Sigh. Another PK.

    Ladies equivalent to playoff beard

On a related note, I think I've found my playoff superstition for the year. I do counted cross stitch, including during those parts of the game when it's too close and tense to just watch. When the playoffs started, I was working on a giant mandala that'll take me another month or two to finish. I roates the big projects with little ones to keep from getting bored with a design, so I moved on to making biscornus (a type of pincushion) right before game 5 of the Nashville series. Finished a couple of them, and went back to the mandala right before game 4 of the Dallas series. This afternoon, I put the mandala away again and dug out the supplies for another biscornu. Considering how they're playing tonight, I'm now stuck making pincushions through the rest of the remainder of the playoffs, even if I want to go back working on the mandala.

When a guy can move like that, one would tend to disregard his slightly irregular facial features.

This time of year, I'd assume a broken nose is a fair price for a one goal lead in these circumstances.

    Funny Names

Espen Knutsen- one part cable television channel and one part sour cream manufacturer And pretty much any Finnish name sounds funny in English. From swimming- Attila Czene

Franzen given the green light to work out

In terms of pure physical conditioning, the most important thing is what you were doing six months ago. The second most important thing is what you were doing six weeks ago. The least important thing is what you were doing six days ago. The rest can actually be something of a help ala the runner's or swimmer's taper. What you do lose a bit is timing and reflex reaction when you're out long enough to lose what had been some good rhythm in a skill-based sports activity.

Pens fan here...first post. NO SMACK!

I think we've been a little bit spoiled during the Dallas series. How many times has Dallas had a wide open net or total gimmie situation and choked on in it the first three games? C'mon, how do manage to botch a 4 on 1 as spectacularly as they did? The Pens are going to be far more competent at finishing the play. And I think the Pens are underestimating just how good Detroit's defense is at generating offense. Look at how far ahead Dats is from anyone else is in the league when it come to takeaways. (And clean, unpenalized takeaways at that.) It's a very rare event when you get to move uncontested through the neutral zone against the Wings.

    Pavel Datsyuk

My first impression of Dats was along the line of "little guy sure knows how to move and have people miss the check on him". Great mobility, good use of the stick. I saw him as Slava Kozlov 2.0, number and all, so call him someone who would evolve into a very useful offensive player capable of a pretty goal here and there. Needless to say, I've been thrilled to see him go far beyond that.

    Return of the Glow Puck?

Glow puck 1.0 had exactly one useful feature- it let you see where the puck was along the near boards in low camera angle situations. If it was only used for that, I'm cool with it. But no national boradcaster would stop at just that situation. Signed, A woman whose first date with her future husband involved watching Kevin Evans beat the heck out of someone at a Kalamazoo Wings game.

So much for Stars momentum, eh?

    Ribiero's swing at Ozzie

If Ribeiro wanted to send a message, there were many other ways he could have done so. Drop his stick and punch/shove/knee/trip Ozzie, and it would have seemed classless, but the situation would have sorted itself out relatively quickly, everyone would have gotten seperated, and we would have headed to Dallas with a nice playoff level of tension and loathing. All would have been good to great. But by using his stick like he did, he crossed the line and did something that should not be tolerated in the league.

    Ribiero's swing at Ozzie

I'd call Osgood's actions slightly embellished, but suspect a good chunk of his reaction came from being caught by surprise. If you're expecting to get whacked by a stick or hit by the 90mph puck you're braced for it and can handle the contact reasonably well, if not comfortably. But the game was over, and he was probably already mentally sliding into the "pat Zata on the head, talk to media, remember to pick up cough syrup for the kid with a cold" checklist for the rest of the night, and was not braced/steadied/balanced correctly for getting whacked from behind.

    Ribiero's swing at Ozzie

The official score sheets on nhl.com confirm Ribeiro got a match penalty.

Now vs. is saying that Ribero shouldn't be suspended because he was provoked. Blech.

In real time, it looked like Ribero was aiming for Ozzie's throat/trachea.

Okay, Ozzie skated off and seemed to be okay. I'm calming down here. But the punk should still sit for multiple games for clear intent to injure after the final horn had sounded.

What the ******* f***! Someone needs to be gone for the remainder of the playoffs and at least the first 20 of next season.

I love Helm's hunger. It's like he knows he's got to prove himself all over again every game to stay in the lineup, and he's playing bound and determined to get in as many games he can now because he doesn't know what next fall brings, or when he'll get a chance to go this far in the playoffs ever again.

The way he's been busting it out there, it was great to see him finally get one past the goalie.

"Stars were tired in Game 1"

Amazing that the part of the media still doesn't get that there's no crying in hockey.

Monday practice notes/Flippula not on ice

So in playoffs-speak, what does a twisted leg work out to? Slight concussion? Cracked ribs? Undisclosed shoulder injury?

WCSF Game 4 GDT: Red Wings 8, Avalanche 2

This is starting to remind me of the good old days of the rivalry on those nights when the Wings would put like 7-8 past Paddy Waaah

I miss the New Orleans Brass. And the Louisiana IceGators, blatant and total consistent disregard of the ECHL salary cap and all.

    Southern Hockey Fans

I'm a Grand Rapids native currently living just outside of Niceville, Florida (yep, real city name) which is a little more than an hour east of the ECHL Pensacola Ice Pilots for those times when we want to see live hockey. We know a couple of other Wings fans down here that are part of the great Michigan disapora (1970s to present) and have a good Directv/ Center Ice set up, so it's actually not bad.
