The sooner the Ducks go out of the playoffs, the more time JS has to spend with his family.

Phoenix. They're under the equivalent of court-ordered bankrupcy protection and I don't think Fiat's looking to get into the North American ice hockey market.
-
My guess is that Zednik get is since the award seems to have morphed into 'returned to play after an impressive near-death experience' deal in recent years.

But Tampa (ah I-75 corridor of Midwestern transplants in Florida) would see an immediate huge attendance increase and Miami, Atlanta and to some extent Carolina would also get attendance boosts from more Wings games. Red Wing Nation: We're everywhere.

In the great playoffs tradition of not disclosing injuries properly, I'll chalk last night's miscues up to, um, how does 'stomach virus' sound? And then as sometimes happens, claim that after he threw up in between the second and third, he started to feel and play better? Can I get a job writing Wings press releases like that?

I think Pavel is a very marketable player. Marketable doesn't have to mean being all spokesmodel and trusting your eyes to Doctor Rahmani and stuff. I'm thinking of that Reebok commercial from a while back where he was just utterly making the puck dance like a little monkey for him. No words- just an amazingly entertaining player out on the ice.

But, but we actually got an eastern time zone matchup before the SCF. That's progress I tell ya.
-
I've got vague memories of him and Datsyuk doing an interview together (Olympics? All Star game?) where he was going off on all sorts of tangents and Pavel was playing, for the most part, the straight guy in a discussion that was absolutely hilarious.

Drive by posting to say that one of my two best concert experiences ever was Pink Floyd at the Silverdome on the Division Bell tour.

Just in time for his 40th birthday.

There are lucky bounces and lucky bounces.

I'd gladly let Ovie, Malin, or Crosby have the Hart if Pavel gets the 'consolation prize' of a Conn Smythe.

One reason why I wish ESPN still did hockey was that they had the best commercials I still remember their 'Fargo'- themed playoff commercials from the late 90s fondly. "16 (or 8/4/2) suspects: one shiny object" and a fake Marge Gunderson investigating someone's death by octopus.

Gaargh! I am awful when it comes to typos, and spellcheck doesn't catch everything. Shoulda been 'sick of it.'

I'd rather see a person buy the team than a pension plan or investment firm. Those types have to inherently be all about marginal returns on theri investments and such, and that can easily come at the expense of putting a good team on the ice. And it kind of makes sense for a notable singer with her current business interests to buy one of the biggest and potentially profitable concert venues in Canada. I assume her family would run the concerts and other events division at Bell and have a fairly hands off approach to the hockey side of things. The worst of it probably would be fans getting stuck with the Celine versions of the anthems before every game. (Yeah, I've heard the Whitney version of the US anthem enough at this point to have gotten dick of it 10+ years back)

Communications service tax for Directv in Florida sets you back 13.17% and is not a flat rate. (Grumble. Only other place over 10% is the District of Columbia) So doing the math, neither of us were correct. True cost to get Center Ice in Florida without the renewal discount is $179.94 plus about another 20-30 cents in other state-specific taxes applied to my bill.
-
Directv didn't give use the renewal rate this year, (yeah, we've been subscribers since 1997-8, but I didn't catch it on the bill in time to *****. Go figure) so call it $159 instead of $169 plus insane satellite taxes. I wasn't too far off on remembering a bill from 2+ months back.
-
When we first got tv Center Ice in the late 90s it was like $109 per season if you got a preseason or renewal discount. Now Directv is charginf me like $170/season plus, since I get the games by satellite, I'm stuck paying all kinds of tax on it that I never used to. True cost works out to like $200/season once you add that into the mix. Though to be fair, we get a lot more feeds than we used to. There was a time when you only got one, with no guarantee of which one it was, and we'd get stuck with the thoroughly awful Kings announcers for every single Detroit-LA game. I do miss the odd Habs game broadcast entirely in French that we'd sometimes get and don't seem to anymore, but overall the price reflects a significant improvement in chanel quantity.

The second one reminds me of the Tiger Woods ad where he's goofing around and spends like 30 seconds bouncing a golf ball off the end of his club.

It's Detroit. (shrug) Some people won't be happy unless a voodoo priest figures out how to get the reanimated corpse of Terry Sawchuck propped up in net and making saves again, and then we'd still complain because his zombie-like state made it hard for him to give coherent interviews.

I think a lot of the time 'indefinite'= until the league offices open for normal business hours on Monday and we can get the five people who normally decide these things into the same room to figure out how to proceed. Sometimes it isn't an easy decision on how to handle discipline and they want some dialog on it.
