It's not like he's the second coming of Mike Ricci or something. He's an average looking guy who just seems to have a tendency to freeze and make funny faces during staged pictures. (The eyes are pure deer in the headlights) He looks a lot better when he's moving around and not being asked to smile for a camera.

Will Datsyuk win another Lady Byng?

From what he said last night, I don't think Pavel thinks he's going to get another Byng in the near future. Read his words as you will.

Long ago, I got hooked on the British version of What Not To Wear, and follwed that up with Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. (Because Tim is just The Awesome) I won't do style commentary on people wearing athletic uniforms because functionality is the most important thing. (Though I do recommend Rhodent's Bush League Factor site- http://www.bushleaguefactor.com/ for minor league logo design critique) But coaching staffs and everyone else off-ice is fair game. Though except for anthem singers, we're talking all men who usually stick with uneventful suit & tie and the only really interesting variations come from Don Cherry and minor league off ice officials. (I think the ECHL's blazers were recycled from the ones the Southern League was using when they folded in 1977, and they just put new patches over the old ones)

The girlfriend was kind of plain, and nowhere nearly as pretty as Hank's wife, but the dress works well on her- a very elegant dress, fits correctly through the chest (she's neither swimming in it nor is anything straining to escape) and the waist works well with her shape and doesn't make her look pregnant, which is a common problem with empire waists like that.

And then afterwards mentioned that he probably wouldn't be keeping the Byng much longer, which could be read that we're going to see big hits, fist-throwin' when necessary Playoffs!Datsyuk in the fall. He's always worked to evolve his game to be the most effective NHL player he can be, and while I think he'll continue to avoid the box for the most part, I wouldn't be surprised to see him keep a little more agressiveness in his game.

I want to get a translation of any Pasha and Ovie joint press discussion with the Russian language media. Because I suspect that once you get the two of them feeding off of each other in an interview that it gets really interesting and funny.

That much gel, and I suspect he's got some serious cowlick issues. If that's the case, if you don't go very short or let it go long enough to put in a ponytail, you end up in Kerry Fraserland in terms of product overuse.

IIt's the kind of dress that 99% of all women would look pregnant in.

She's attractive, and also wearing a dress made out of IKEA kitchen curtains. And he needs to shave and figure out a haircut that lets him lay off the hair gel a little.

They're running a little over. Here's hoping that VS doesn't cut out before they announce the final award.

I tuned in too late to see those two guys accept their awards. If it makes you feel better, I do still relentless mock Larry Murphy's Kerry Fraser-like hair every time he's visible on a telecast.

Brian MacFarlane still has an excellent Broadcaster Voice.

You're going to be in formalwear on tv, you should be trying to look your best, and there's something to be said for knowing how to clean up nicely. Men have it easy- a tux cut right flatters a lot of body shapes. But dresses are harder to get right, and Cammy would have been well-served by spending a good 15-30 minutes with a dress lady at Nordstroms (or whatever her local department store is) Just channeling my inner Tim Gunn or Trinny and Susannah. And yeah Gordie!

That is an awful dress on Cammy. Doesn't fit right, isn't the right cut to flatter her body type.

"My reign is short now." So we're going to see him try to deck Roberts in the regular season too? No way Cheli was going to win because he lacked the near death experience the Masterton usually seems to require.

    Interesting expansion thoughts

Depending on where you measure from in the cities, there might be an overlap with the Blackhawks' territorial rights with Milwaukee, and the Wirtz family would ask for a lot in compensation if their rights did go that far into Wisconsin.

do the redwings open the season in england?

While the travel time isn't great for the team, it's good for the league, what with Stockholm being such an easy flight from London and all.

    Justin Abdelkader

Has to earn it. No one just gets roster spots with this club, and a year in GR would probably be good for him to learn how to cope with a long season.

Jiri Fischer, should he get his name on cup?

IIRC, the winning team gets something like 50 name spaces on the Cup, and once you get past the automatic player names, it's up to the club to determine the allocation of the rest of the spaces, pending a cursory NHL approval. (The NHL XXXed out Basil Pocklington's name from the ring because he had no affiliation with the Oilers other than being the father of the team owner, unlike the various Illiches, who at least can claim to be involved in Olympia Entertainment in some way) So it's up to the Wings organization if Jiri's name goes on there as part of club management.

    Award Predictions

I do think that Dats has taken himself out of Lady Byng contention for next year based on this year's playoffs.

Lids & Oz on The Tonight Show...?

If only Pavel was willing to go on the interview circuit, I think he'd do pretty well on Colbert. He seems to have the right sense of humor for those kinds of shows. I'd love to hear him and Ovechkin do a comedy routine in Russian. (provided I could learn Russian)

    Official Red Wings Parade Chat

Also if you've got Directv and don't have the regional sports, you can call customer service to order those channels, and they'll turn them on in like 30 seconds. Just remember to call back and cancel before the next billing cycle. Probably run you somewhere between $5-$10 for that one month of regional sports if you think it'll be worth it.

    Official Red Wings Parade Chat

If you've got the Directv regional sports pack, it's of Fox Detroit on channel 636. If not, try either ESPN News (207) or NHL Network (215) closer to the parade start time. It was too recent of an addition to show up on the program grid, so the channel guide for Fox Detroit is still saying an infomercial is on right now.

    Dedications

For all the talk about the Wings being the Yankees of hockey, this one's for a team that was, at heart, all a group of unwanted underdogs at one point or another. Late draft picks, unsigned training camp invitees, little-regarded free agents, people who bounced in and out of the sport. To build a team out of so many players that have spent time on the Island of Misfit Toys into a group of guys who believe so much in each other and want to see everyone on the team succeed is a pretty amazing accomplishment. Sometimes I feel like it's Red Wings v. the World. And look out, World.

    Official Wings Cup Parade Information

Hope that's true. I want to see, and there's no other way to do that from Florrida. Bless Directv, and the 87 sports channels I don't otherwise watch. (They black out the good stuff to make you buy Center Ice)
