The thread was barely 2 weeks old when I posted, if even. That counts as a "resurrection"? My intent wasn't to say that Wiess sucks (I'm sure he's good, but he will be weighed down from Franzen just like Filppula was) or Holland sucks but to point out that Filppula is already having a huge impact on his new team and is getting tons of credit for things he never got credit for (short of myself and an occasional couple others) here.

So Filppula scored his team's only goal in his first game, shootout winner in the next, assist on the OT GWG in his third game and scored 2 sick goals tonight along with being +3 and 59% on the faceoff. On the other hand, our "big upgrade" has scored one goal, is -1 and 41% on the faceoff. Nice off season Kenny.

Seriously? The playoff format isn't bad. They want to emphasize division play (which is great) but it would be unfair with different division sizes so they have to do wild cards. The metropolitan name is kind of dumb and too long, but we'll all be calling it "metro" anyway. Traditional player named division would be nice for us hardcore fans, but it would be confusing and arbitrary for new ones. And as for 14 vs 16 teams, what else are they supposed to do? Expand to 32 teams? Because we all know much much we want to be in the East, and Columbus isn't ant further to the west than us. Talk about out of the frying pan.

Aside from the obvious post just to knock Filppula, he scored 10 goals in a little more than half a season last year and the season before that he had 14 assists with a full season. Playing with Z and Pav for a whole year and getting some confidence/experience, I could see him doubling those numbers. I'm not saying it absolutely will happen, but it's more than possible.

Yes, I'm sure you and Brunner are in the exact same position and so he should give up anything you would just to play for Detroit.

I could see him getting 15-20 goals and 25-30 assists with a full season. In a couple years I could see him getting 20 goals and 30 assists.

My point is that Filppula could have come in at a low cap hit just like Franzen if we still had the old CBA. If Franzen was a FA this year, you think he would only be asking for $3.9m? We don't know. That's why its perfectly reasonable to assume that he would have scored at a relavtiely similar pace. If you just want to look on the surface, yeah, Weiss is way better than Filppula. If you actually want to know the facts, think about it for more than 3 seconds. Weiss has a much more significant role on the team. He's been their #1 center, Flip is our #3 center. I'll run the numbers for you. Last five seasons: Filppula: 328 games, 197 points: .60 ppg Weiss: 331 games, 231 points: .7 ppg So he's had a much bigger role on the team with a ton more ice time over a period of time where Filppula often wasn't even on the powerplay and he scored only slightly more. I'm not saying Flip is better, but there is no argument that Weiss is any better.

You're not paintng a full picture since you don'tmention how many games he played. Unless you don't think he would have scored 6 more points if he played 27 more games to make a full season in 09-10. There is really no point in rehashing the entire Filppula argument if you're going to ignore facts. Water must be blue, until you actually think about it, right?
