  1. Franzen is getting paid $5.25 million right now. The only reason his cap hit is so low is because of the $4m he gets paid over the last 3 years of the contract.
  2. I'm telling you how many points he scores per game. You can't say that's not a "real number" or a real argument just because it makes you wrong.
  3. #1 center on a crap team is better than #3 center on a great team.
  4. At times? You mean the times when he's on the ice? And Franzen has always had a much bigger role on the team with a ton of PP time and playing with Pav or Z. He does his job marginally well as long as he is with a bonafide star like Datsyuk or Zetterberg.
  5. Oh, and you;re really going to include his first 4 game season in the NHL as part of his 8 year career?
  6. I agree. It's just people are acting like Weiss or Grabovski would be a big upgrade, when in reality its a lateral move at best. And actually, over the past 5 seasons he has averaged .60 ppg. That's 50 points, not 35.
  7. It's not related at all, that's my point. Poor production when he is at center isn't because he can't play center, but because when he plays center, he had poor linemates. And I call Franzen "barely top 6" because he is lazy, floats, can't make plays, doesn't cycle well and only scores goals when someone gives him the puck in a perfect scoring position.
  8. Er, did you not read my post? Filppula didn't not work out as center because he can't center a line, but because his linemates when he was center were barely top 6ers at best. And I'm pretty sure that when it comes to scoring, I think a defenseman who scored almost 60 points would be more beneficial than one who scored 30. He almost scored 70 points and was 13th in the league in even strength scoring. How much better are you supposed to get?
  9. When Flip was center he was paired with much worse players than when Weiss was. Who did Flip center? Franzen? Bertuzzi? Cleary? Sammy? All players barely quantifiable as top six players. Weiss played with Versteeg and Fleischmann, with a ton more TOI too, who both had good years in 11-12 when he scored 57 points. And Crymson, Cambell almost scored more points than Lidstrom and Kronwall combined in 11-12.

    Stephen Weiss on his way?

If we can get him for $3.5m or less, fine. Otherwise, I'd rather sign Filppula.
  11. Past two years: Filppula: 122g, 32g, 51a Weiss: 97g, 21g, 40a Grabovski: 122g, 32g, 35a How are weiss or Grabovski any better than Filppula? At this point, anyone on the FA list is a downgrade from Flip. If we sign Weiss for anything around $4.5m, it would be insane.

Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

$3.5 requires 75 points, seriously? It's not a sure thing that even Pav or Z will get 75 points, and they make $6m+

Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

Worse things could have happened. Glad it's only 1 year.
  14. Key word: rumored. Seriously, with Lecavalier gone, who is a better option for 2C on the FA market? I hope we resign Flip at this point, even if we have to go as high as $4.5m. Because lets face it, we're not going to make a big time trade and there are no better options that are less of a gamble than Flip.

Wings buy out Colaiacovo, will keep Bertuzzi

If he really gives Cleary $3 million for another 3 seasons, I'll have to agree.

Wings buy out Colaiacovo, will keep Bertuzzi

    Let's hope,
  17. Story of Filppula on LGW: People don't want him to resign, but also get pissed at him for not wanting to resign.

    Hawks re-sign Bickell (4 years 16 mill)

Has there been a free agent signing in the past year that we havent said "Overpayment"? Maybe we, not only fans but Wings managment as well, need to get off our high horses about "overpaying" players. Prices go up, that's how the world works.
  19. Well dependant on his salary, of course. I think an ideal contract is $3.25-$3.5m for a couple years to give him a chance to prove himself. But that's pretty unlikely unless Filppula only wants to play for the Wings which isn't likely, so I wouldn't be upset if he ended up getting a bit over $4m for 4 or 5 years. Anything over that is too risky though.
  20. Oh come on, I'm a Wings fan more than a Filppula fan and if it was between signing Lecavalier or Filppula I'd pick Lecavalier. That said if we can't get him, I think Filppula simply had an off year and will be back to his 11-12 form next season and would want him back.

    2013 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

Come on, you gotta feel bad for that guy getting booed even during a draft.
  22. Filppula isn't a big net front presence, obviously, but he never shys away from battling for the puck in the corners. In fact, his skill for battling along the boards is one of his best traits.
  23. Because after whistle scrums around the net is what wins Cups.
  24. I agree with all of this. I also agree with FlashyG about having Lecavalier for a second line center instead of Filppula (I'd like both, if we have the space). I just think people are giving Filppula way to little credit.
