I don't know how you can pay 7+ million to someone who you think isn't your #1 guy. Should he be a #1? Absolutely not. But if you pay someone 7+ million, you're expecting him to be your #1.

How many times did red wings palyers say that Hossa was a perfect fit in the locker room? He scored 40 goals this season, I keep repeating it because it's extremely relevant. He was #7 in goals scored this season. THAT MEANS SOMETHING. If you say someone who has scored 40 goals elsewhere and then scores 20 with the wings, you can cry chemistry. But Hossa nearly had a career year in goals, and likely would have if he didn't miss some time, so this renders your chemistry argument void. It doesn't "make up" for it. This might be over your head, but it's an indicator over his very high skill level, and that he just had a bad playoffs last season. Hossa isn't a playoff choker like Joe Thornton, as some people would have everyone here believe. Thornton has a history of playoff disappearances, Hossa doesn't. People who are smarter than you realize that he is worth having for the playoffs. Could other words also be..."I'm retarded"?.... I agree about his bad playoffs for his standards. And seeing how his bad playoffs (for his standards, it's not like he was the worst player on the team) is the outlier (most people who have posted probably won't know what that means) as opposed to all the good playoffs he's had, Hossa is the better player. And I really don't remember Franzen putting on a con smythe performance in the finals either. Hossa had one less point than franzen in the finals.

How many timely goals did Franzen score in the Finals? Franzen was just as invisible as Hossa was in the last games of the season.

Franzen was playing on the CHECKING LINE? Well that's the stupidest I've heard all day. I don't think anyone referred to the Franzen Zetterberg Cleary line as the checking line ever. Just because you play against Crosby you're the checking line? Well think about this: Hossa was playing against Malkin. And how many posters here say Malkin is better than Crosby?

Franzen "owns"? That an arbitrary statement if I've ever seen one. What do you mean by owns? Does Hossa not own? Does 40 goals not "own"? Franzen does seem to score very timely goals, but so has Hossa. Hossa nearly carried this team on his back during the regular season.

If we lose next year in the playoffs, I hope it's against chicago at the hands of Hossa, who scores 3 goals a game. Hossa > Franzen. In every department. It's not debatable. Hossa had a bad playoffs year, so did Datsyuk. But who would you rather have, Datsyuk or Franzen? People here are so fickle.

No. For just an extra 1.3 million, it would have been entirely worth it to have Hossa over Franzen. Franzen gets lazy, but Hossa gives it all every shift. Hossa at 5.2 > Franzen at 3.9 easily. Plus, we probably could have gotten Hossa for even less than 5.2. I've said it before, Franzen is a great goal scorer, but otherwise is pretty useless (I know that sounds strange, but there is more to hockey than just scoring goals). Hossa is an even better goal scorer, a great passer, spectacular forechecker, good defensively, etc. I'll take Hossa over Franzen all day every day.

It's just that Hudler isn't worth the 12 year commitment just for a 1.5 cap hit. Players like Franzen, Hossa and Z are. But not Hudler.

Holland isn't as naive as you. Hossa is a 40 goal scorer. 5.2 million for a 40 goal scorer is a bargain. 6 million is a bargain.

He has a 5.2 million cap hip. It's not some huge contract. It's in between Franzen's number and Z's number. A perfect number. Unless you mean the price in a trade, which is completely true.

Is this a joke? He turned down an 80 million dollar offer at 8 miillion a year to come for a year, and then signs for 6 million a year. You're an idiot if you actually think he only cares about money.
