I agree Congress has more pressing matters to deal with, but should athletes really be allowed to behave as though the laws don't apply to them? I mean, when you're making more money than most people will ever see or dream of in a lifetime, it's easier to see yourself as above the law than, say, if you were a normal person. No, cheating should not be allowed in major league sports. It's crazy that the leagues don't enforce these rules the way they're enforced when normal citizens are involved. If you can't win through hard work and conventional training, you don't deserve to win. But it's really not Congress' place to punish these people. It's too bad no one else is willing to, though.

The guy has a rare outlook on life. I'm not sure I'd label him an intellectual... He sure tries a lot more than many people (especially athletes), though.
-
Right... What else are you willing to part with?

I never saw McCarty in his original run with Detroit, but I'd sure as hell love to see him back for the rest of the season/playoffs. The man has overcome more than a lot of us ever will in our lives, and for that alone, he deserves a second chance.

Washington isn't necessarily a terrible team. They're a young team that's been burned by bad leadership and some deals that looked good on paper, but failed to deliver (Jagr, Nylander). There's a lot of talent on that team, and as it matures, we'll see them emerge as a real contender in the Southeast. As it is, the division is up in the air and the Caps aren't out of the playoff picture yet.

What will it take to arrange this for someone like Pronger?

Filppula is one of my favorite players. He's got good instincts and moves, but like people have said, he's still young and working on his confidence. I got out my boyfriend's DVD set last night and watched game 3 of the 2002 Cup finals -- Datsyuk's rookie season and I remember thinking how similar he looks to Filppula. All the pieces were there, but he wasn't quite together yet. He had beautiful moments, but he was still a young player gaining experience on lower lines. I know Filppula isn't the answer to the Wings' current offensive troubles, but in a couple years, he'll be in full bloom.

Thank god for Center Ice. I'm watching Buffalo (hopefully) beating Ottawa.

What I want to know is why Khabibulin hasn't been suspended for that cheapshot with the blocker after the goal has been called and Shannon is skating away. Seems like pretty blatant unsportsmanlike behavior there.

I agree. I'm not saying the Wings would've won it for sure, but I wanted to see them get the 1 point they earned and fight it out for the second. I still can't believe how many people are posting at this point. I left to fold my laundry, came back, and there were 3 or 4 more pages.

Even a starting goaltender of Giguere's caliber isn't immune to the laws of motion.
-
I see, at most, a couple of bits of skate in the crease. At the time of the still, Giguere is moving away from the shot. Even if you take a big pink eraser and remove Holmstrom from the picture, Giguere was never going to make that save.
-
I'm not normally one to hop on the "refs are out to screw us" bandwagon, but this is beyond lame. There has to be some recourse.
-
There's no provision for challenging such a horrible call? That's utter bull.
-
Giguere was moving left. He wasn't even going to be in position to stop it.

I'm not sure what small mammal it was, but they sell replicas of those at the Honda Center.

Even NBC is questioning the officials' impartiality.

I'm not saying we should go after them or that we'd even have a chance, but those two are joined at the hip. An old high school friend who is a Caps fan has an intense hatred of them and says St. Louis reminds him of a jockey.
-
Lecavalier is almost certainly a package deal with St. Louis. They're too much like Draper and Maltby.

The Wings played a good, physical game against Anaheim the last time they met. I hope they can rise to the occasion again and beat the thugs at their own game. It would be a nice time to break out of the current slump or whatever you'd like to call it.

I can respect that people think we need a shot in the arm to fortify the team for the playoffs, but I'm not convinced shelling out 2002 money for 2008 Fedorov is a good buy. Let's see if we can't get some younger players with some future promise. I have no problem with them making future commitments. It seems shortsighted to spend money and trade bait to get a short term fix. I'm not sure why we'd even want Marty Lapointe back. This is a great chance to get some young blood into the system. Let's not fritter our chances away on players in the twilight of their careers. Nostalgia is great, but it won't bring back the glory days of ex-Wings.

Jim Hughson positively freaks me out. After the number of hours I spent playing NHL 07, it's a little scary to hear the exact same phrasing and tone of voice during a live game. "<name of goalie> the save!" with his voice rising as though it's a question is the most memorable one.

Center Icers don't have a choice It's not that I don't like the CBC, but I miss FSND when the Wings are on the road.

It was good to see Don Cherry talk about Cleary and wish him well on HNIC just now.

After today, does anyone suspect we might be seeing Hudler move back into Lang's basement anytime soon?
