I would enjoy a Wings-Caps Stanley Cup finals this year. But since they're not competing directly with Detroit most of the year, they get to be my favorites in the far-off East. I can see how fans of hard-luck teams would direct their bitterness at fans of teams with long track records of success. It sucks, but Caps fans have had a raw deal for some time.

I wish I'd thought of warping young minds while I was there. I forgot to mention that when the lady who scanned my ticket and searched my purse asked if I "had any squid in there." I told her we hold off on that until the playoffs.

Don't forget: a big win for Washington to avenge last night's loss to Toronto! They're only one point out of first in the Southeast after this. Not that the Southeast is home to many of the powerhouse teams in the league, but I'd love to see the Caps in the playoffs this year.

Selanne's a talented player, but my impression is that he's one of the few class acts on a team that boasts some of the biggest jerks in the league. If he decides to return this late in the season, it'll lower my opinion of him a bit. The Ducks picked up a forward and a defenseman in the off season to fill the spots vacated by Niedermayer and Selanne and it just doesn't seem fair for them to change their minds.

Nylander wasn't really delivering much for Washington anyway. Most Caps fans consider him a big disappointment. Not quite a Jagr-level disappointment, but many feel he's underperforming. Backstrom, on the other hand, has been strong in the last couple of months. He, Ovechkin, and Semin were great to watch when I was in Washington over the holidays.

If the Oilers are smart, they will have been watching the Datsyuk/Clowe/Grier video all weekend. I know I did.

Good news If I have to see "Lord Stanley's Summer" on FSN Prime one more time, I'm going to hurt somebody. No one should have to see the Niedermayer brothers feeding horses hay from Detroit's trophy.

Cool. I lived in the DC area until about a year and a half ago. I try to catch some of the Caps' games on Center Ice when I'm not wishing doom on the Ducks.

I don't know that there's any conspiracy against the Wings and/or Hasek because of who they are. I'm willing to accept, for the moment, anyway, that the refs are really just inept.

That's just it, the Wings aren't playing a terrible game. They're dominating Phoenix in just about every way -- one look at the stats will tell you that. This game should be 2-1 the other way around.

So if you're Mike Babcock, how do you handle the Holmstrom thing? He's getting called for this everywhere, even though a good look at the replays shows he's playing a clean game. Clearly, the penalties are costing the team, even if the offense never happened.

The one advantage of being a Wings fan in exile is that it's only 10 here. I can ***** for a couple more hours yet.

Hasek has always struck me as a rather streak-y goaltender. When he's good, he's phenomenal. When he's off, he's way off. There's just no middle ground there.

Anaheim has to be the only team with an "official" lasik eye surgeon. Maybe they ought to offer their services to the refs.
