GDT 3/5 GDT : Avalanche 1 at Red Wings 2
Avalanche Warning replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Too bad this rivalary is long dead...mainly do to the Avs sucking and the Red Wings full of soft euros. Anywho, hope its a good game tonight and then onto two shots at the Blackhawks to break the streak. -
Hey guys I will be attending my first ever NHL game when the Avs visit the Joe on February 15th, I hope it will be an awesome experience, although I have a few questions. What are some fun things to do before and after the game? (I am not 21 ) How are the sight-lines at the Joe? I will be sitting in section 225A. I'll be decked out in Avs gear, ball cap and Stastny jersey? How much verbal abuse am I in for?! Any other tips would be appreciated, I'm looking forward to seeing the Avs go 3-0 against you guys this year..

Thanks alot.

There are plenty of people on here who bad mouth Bettman (usually for a good reason), but you should all take into consideration that the year he stepped in as commissioner, the Wings became one of the best teams in the league and have been ever since. I find it hard to believe that "Bettman hates the Red Wings" when this team hasn't missed the playoffs since he's arrived.

Sorry we couldn't put up much of a fight. I got kind of emotional near the end thinking it could be Sakics last game. Good luck vs Dallas.

Peter Forsberg announcers retirement... It's been one heck of a ride Peter. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=236622&lid...s=topStory_main

He's the only reason I kept the tv on.
-
I would like to see him stick around to play on Canada in 2010 right in his own backyard. He's still a point per game player, they just can't ask him to carry the team anymore.

The Wings seem to have more beef with the Ducks these days. I watched the game between them a few months back on NBC where they called off a Detroit goal late because Holmstrom "interfered" with Giguerre. A brawl ensued after the next puck drop and I immediately said to myself that Anaheim was the new Colorado in terms of Detroit's rivals. If they do play each other I certainly do not expect another bench brawl or goalie fight (although it would be sweet).

Thats exactly what the Wild said. I'd love to see another Avs - Wings series but I'm pulling for Calgary to beat the Sharks because we've had the Stars number in the playoffs the last few years and Detroit handed us our lunch in the regular season (although that was without Stastny, Smyth, Sakic, Forsberg, Foote and 2002 Theodore).

Yes, it SEATS 18007. You can bet they pack the place with standing room tickets that don't show up on the attendance chart. Call it a "Tiny Venue" all you want but the Pepsi Center is a state of the art, top quality arena while the JLA is a dump that is falling apart.

It bothers me that Detroit continues to call themselves Hockeytown, when their fans (coroprate seats or not) don't show up for games when they have one of the most exciting teams in the league and have been one of the best for the last 15 years. About your little attendance rant. Why don't you click the percentage heading at the top and you'll see "Hockeytown" is 16th in the NHL. Colorado is 17th, right behind Detroit. Seeing as how about half the fans show up for a Red Wings game, its safe to say the PepsiCenter holds more people per game, and we didn't even make the playoffs last year or been considerd a egitimate cup threat. Count the tickets accepted at the gates instead of tickets purchased and you'll see Detroit in the bottom five. PS. - Colorado holds the record for consecutive sellouts at 487, and comes within hundreds of selling out games that aren't at capacity.
-
Add all those variables into a MUCH smaller Pittsburgh (approximately 1/3 the size of Detroit). They sold out ALL tickets in 11 minutes. People camped out overnight and not all of them even got tickets. I can name off the top of my head about 5 or 6 cities that are more of a hockey town than Detroit is. Another question, whats the excuse for the no-shows? When I check the score sheet for Wings home games it says 19,000+ yet when I watch the highlights, half the arena is empty. The fact of the matter is many Red Wings "fans" have been spoiled over the years and they don't support the team unless they make they Cup Finals.
-
I think its time to slap that "Hockeytown" in the Excel Energy Center! Maybe even the Igloo. Pittsburgh sold out EVERY playoff ticket available in 11 minutes. Blame the poor economy all you want, but if you're trying to argue there isn't 20,000 people in Michigan who can cough up enough money for a ticket is absolute BS.

Yes, Jaques Lemaire is going to send Chris Simon and Derek Boogaard to attack the most respected player in the game.
-
I love it, because it just fires Foppa up and thats the last thing you want to do because he responds with his stick, not with his fists.
-
Thats been happening for 10 years.
-
Oh boo hoo, cry me a river Wild fans. Those announcers are completely biased. Sure Lappy gave Gaborik a few shots (with the gloves on), but Gabby was doing the same thing back. I'll be surprised if Boogaard sees more than 5 minutes per game in this series, thats if he's even dressed.

Seeing Blaker in a Wing uniform will look strange...but IMO Detroit should just stick to the team they have now. They should have learned their lesson in the Bertuzzi / Calder deals last season. And that was 11 years ago, If Detroit thinks adding more old , out of prime players to their roster will help them win a cup, they are indeed mistaken.
-
And I believe the Sharks were 34 seconds away from putting you away. Karma's a ***** eh? And no KP I'm not this "CPrice" you speak of.
-
If Teemu can play close to the level he did last season, they will repeat as champions. Detroit would be the only team to give them a run for thier money in the playoffs, but the Ducks, like they proved last year, are too big and strong for the Euro Wings.

My brother is a Red Wings fan so I watch plenty of the games, and I know exactly how they play. Puck possession system and are very tight on their man in the defensive zone. The games I see, Ozzy/Hasek is called upon to make a big save one or twice a period, and they almost never see a rebound because the Red Wings defensive is always there first. And of course Holland/Babcock said it, what did you expect them to say? I bet they both know exactly what I'm talking about, which is why no goaltender in Detroit will see more than 4 million per year, as long as they have this good of a team. I'm not saying Osgood is a terrible one, I'm saying he is way overrated.
-
As an unbiased vote, I would choose Lidstrom. He is so consistent and plays amazing in every zone. Zetterberg second and Datsyuk a close third. Osgood wouldn't even come close. Sure he has an amazing record, but common folks, any NHL calibur goaltender would have similar numbers on this Red Wings team. They allow roughly 20 shots per game , and a handful of scoring chances. I think most people will agree with me that Ozzy wouldn't even be close to the numbers he has now on any other team in the league.
