I would also be interested in this Red Wings themed "Detroit '67." Anybody?

I'm surprised that no one's brought up the issue that the 2002 Wings are better than the 2008 Wings. Personally, I think it's close and could be considered a toss-up.

What can be better than Sunday Night Football and fantasy hockey?
-
Hello my Wings brethren, I have a free Yahoo, Head to Head League that needs some filling. As of now I need about 4-5 more people. I'm looking to have a deep league at 14 teams so anyone looking to jump in an almost-full league is more than welcome to join. If I don't get 14 teams then I will settle for 12. Now, the people who are already in there really know their hockey and will stay vigilant in the fantasy process (updating their roster, participating in trades and free agents, etc). You don't have to be a hockey mastermind but if you join be ready to actively participate. Here is the league info for painless membership: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey League ID#: 176521 Password: datsyuk

Nice. Now you need a team name. Puck Bunnies?

Good question. Draft Time: Sunday September 27th at 8:30 PM

Create a line-up that you would hate to play against.

The common underlying quality of all the players mentioned in this thread is that there is some component of their game that makes it extremely frustrating to play against. Just ask Penguins fans who the last person they want to see across the faceoff circle from their precious Sidney. I'm sure they all see #40 in their nightmares, haunting their hockey aspirations. Another player I would include in this list is Peter Forsberg. The guy was a machine on both ends of the ice and got under your skin as well. Actually, I think he takes the crown of player you would hate to play against. -

I think the 29 other teams in the league would include Zetterberg and Datsyuk in this category. -
Anyone with half a brain knows that signing Williams is a depth move...which makes it even more mind boggling over how much grief the reaction thread drew. 1.5 million dollars is all it cost the Wings. That is almost nothing in hockey salary terms. Essentially, Williams replaces Samuelsson. When you think about the signing from THIS angle, how do you view it now? Would you rather have Samuelsson at 2.5 million or Williams at 1.5? They both play the same game. Fast, somewhat gritty and possess a rocket right handed shot. So, Red Wings fan, it's time to get the sand outta your vaj and MAN UP: Samuelsson or Williams?

Time to MAN UP: Williams or Samuelsson?

See, that wasn't so bad, was it? I guess those TWENTY-THREE PAGES of bitching about signing JASON WILLIAMS really wasn't all that prudent, was it? Even if he was the slowest, laziest, biggest liability on the market: IT'S JUST ONE YEAR AT 1.5 MILLION!! Now, Williams isn't any of those things which took this thread for people to realize and for the money and years this was actually a signing that ranges from decent to potentially great...and nowhere near the atrocity people made it out to be. Personally, Williams' great speed and rocket shot puts his potential at 30 goals which, if accomplished, would impress me but not be shocking. He is filling a void and somebody's gotta score the goals lost this summer. Williams, in my opinion, has the best chance of Eaves, Helm or Leino to benefit the most from the void of scoring. -
Williams has speed and a rocket of a shot, certainly an upgrade over Samuelsson and essentially the same player as Hudler. Remind me again, why is this bad news?
-
It would be great to see those losers again and remind them who still runs this biatch but, in all honesty, I don't think either team gets back to the finals next year.
-
What makes this loss so tough is knowing how unlikely it is that the Wings get back next year, especially with how competitive the Western Conference is.
-
Does Chris Chelios get his name on the Cup? Isn't the rule that you have to play 42 games or one finals game?
-
The Spurs have consistently been more dominant than the Lakers over the past decade. Look at their results over the past ten years: 1999: Championship 2000: 4th seed, out in first round 2001: Lost in Conference Finals (to eventual champion Lakers) 2002: Lost in second round (to eventual champion Lakers) 2003: Championship 2004: Lost in Conference Finals (to Lakers: this was the Derek Fisher miracle shot series) 2005: Championship (over a GREAT Pistons team, I'm sure most of you remember this series well) 2006: Lost in second round to eventual Western Conference champion Dallas 2007: Championship 2008: Lost in Conference Finals 2009: Out in first round So, in ten years, they've won four championships, made it to at least the conference finals in 7 out of 10 years and either won it all or lost to the eventual champs in 6 out of 10 years . Even if you're only counting from 2000 onward they still equal the Lakers championships but they haven't missed the playoffs or finished lower than a 4 seed in all this time whereas the Lakers went through two years of rebuilding. Finally, Tim Duncan is the equivalent of Nik Lidstrom in that he is quietly the most valuable player on his team over a long period of time. It's no contest, San Antonio>LA in basketball.

Care to explain that one?

Just heard it on 97.1 The Ticket.

Pavel Datsyuk was the most dominating, noticeable presence on the ice in the regular season for the Wings. Up to this point in the playoffs, he has been near invisible. We all know how great he was in last year's playoffs so what gives this year? Has he been straight up owned by the opposition or is he nursing an injury that is affecting his play?

Part I- Saturday Night Part II- Sunday afternoon

Whoa there, Cajanek. I like the young guns as much as you but let's keep things in perspective. Also, the Blues DO NOT want to see Detroit in Round 1. It would be a quick and painless series.

This thread shows that there are 3 types of Red Wings fans that post here: 1. The Pansy: This guy talks a big game but hides behind his rule book when asked to bring it. While the men are hittin' and scrappin' and playing good, clean hockey, The Pansy will not only hide behind his rule book but begin splitting hairs in it. His blind hate for any other team/player/organization besides his own may be the cause behind the Pansy's demeanor but it could simply be a case of nature winning over nurture. The Pansy does not have a girlfriend (because he doesn't "have time for one") and spends obscene amounts of time playing Warcraft. He may know the rule book from cover to cover but it often times doesn't compensate for his lack of self confidence and propensity to get owned by either The Level Headed Guy, The Throwback or both. 2. The Level Headed Guy: This fan sees situations from all angles. Should a call have been made? Maybe, maybe not. The Level Headed guy understands the game of hockey to be universally equivocal. Sometimes you get the breaks and sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get the call, other times it's missed. What's important to the Level Headed Guy is that good, clean hockey is played which means he doesn't sweat the small stuff. He embraces good plays/players/teams from around the league and is a hockey fan first, team fan second. 3. The Throwback: Knock 'em down, drag 'em out, The Throwback is all about Olde Tyme Hockey. Not only does he feel the whistles should be swallowed but believes that physical play is what makes the game of hockey so great. The Throwback can often be found in bars and at the game, most probably dominating The Pansy in all facets of life. The Throwback is, beneath it all, a good-hearted soul who would stick up for his buddies without a thought. He hates the opposing team but, unlike The Pansy, doesn't have a problem giving credit where credit is due. Seems to me that we got a little too many #1's in this boi. You know who you are.

So now we're talking intent? How does anyone really know what TJ's intentions were? But since we're speculating I'll join right in. After killing a penalty a player normally either rushes back into the play or goes to the bench to sub for a more desirable matchup, depending on the situation. The play was deep in the Blues zone so Oshie has full intent to get back into the play first and foremost. He spots Nash uncovered and marks him as his man. The PUCK IS PLAYED TO NASH merely seconds before he is flattened. This makes the timing okay because he is simply finishing his check. Him skating like a madman can be attributed more to getting back in the play than trying to hurt someone. Could I be wrong? Maybe. But I think most people see this as a more plausible scenario than yours, which assumes that Nash was targeted regardless of the situation. So, your assumption includes an NHL player charging someone over a hundred feet just to lay him out while mine suggests an NHL player finishing his check. The most telling aspect of this all is that Nash had no problem with the hit, further proving you to be a dunce. Stick to finger painting, son.
-
1. It wasn't a charge as many before you have clearly stated. He was simply trying to get into the play and wound up in a position to hit another player (the gliding proves that). That is significantly different from skating stride for stride until you hit your opponent. 2. Oshie certainly wasn't picking his spots because Nash outweighs him by a good 50 lbs and he gives up about 5 inches in height. It actually took a lot of guts to do what he did and he gets major props for doing it so well (twice in two nights now). 3. Nash actually did try to go for Oshie in today's game and, well, you saw what happened (scroll up a bit).
-
Um, he came out of the penalty box and went to cover his man. He anticipated the play going to Nash (he was right) and was in a great position to lay him out. Your argument is trash because Nash played the puck seconds before Oshie destroyed his life. Clean hit. Go watch some more hockey.
