Are you so sure of that? What if Franzen tops 30 goals? With the rate at which contracts are being given out it would not surprise me at the least if Johan is offered over 5 million. If not by the Red Wings, then another team out there in need of scoring.

Franzen's play is reminiscent of Bertuzzi in his Vancouver days. Size, speed and great hands. And this can't be dismissed as a "hot start" because he's been doing it since the second half last year so let's put his legitimacy to rest. The real issue will be deciding between Hossa and Franzen. Just because Franzen is new in the league doesn't mean he's young. He's 30 years old, pretty much the same age as Hossa. I think most people would take Hossa over Franzen but would you take Hossa at 8 million per year or Franzen at 5?

Although I like the team I have never found what's so appealing about the Wings jersey. Red isn't a really cool color. These Canes jersies are tight though.

Ah, so that's what it was. Well, I can almost guarantee you that this doesn't carry over to the NHL. MLB has the dumbest rules and are extremely strict about their streaming policies. For example, you cannot listen to a baseball online without purchasing MLB Audio which is over 100 bucks a year. Ditto for watching games online. The NHL sets up the whole thing for you on their website so you can listen to whatever stream you wish, home or away broadcast. Not only that, but baseball games can't stream on Sopcast whereas NHL games can. So, don't worry about this issue, MLB has proven to be the greediest league of them all. Just be glad you're a hockey fan.

I wrote to Grant Fuhr when I was in 5th grade in 1996-97. My friend was also a hockey fan and a great artist so he drew me this picture of Grant Fuhr in the McDonalds red jersey. I sent it with a note asking for at least a signed picture and, if it wasn't any trouble, his jersey. I'm still waiting for my response.

Numbers on the front were never cool to begin with. They throw off the jersey so much and it seems so superfluous. It probably won't happen but I wish the league would do away with this stupid trend before every team adops it. Can you amagine how Vinny Lecavalier would look in the Stanley Cup Finals now? He'd have his #4 and not far away have the Stanley Cup patch AND the "A" all on top of the logo!

Am I the only one that's a little alarmed by this? First Jagr and now Emery, two significant NHL names to go to Russia. Add that to all the stuff I've been hearing that the rising NHL salaries is in part due to competition from Russia and it makes me slightly uneasy.

As a whole, the 2008 Playoffs were probably among the better ones in recent years. I still think that 2007 provided for more exciting matchups (Final Four in '07 was epic) but the result this year was obviously preferred. So, after the dust has cleared, the Wings raise the Cup and the most exciting time of the year comes to an end, what moment from the 2008 PLayoffs will stick with you forever? In 2007, I would have to say it was the Niedermeyer goal in Game 5 against Detroit. Here's a few moments that define the 2008 Playoffs: -The entire Montreal/Boston series. End to end action with plenty of intrigue and storylines. The near Bruins comeback provided for perhaps the most exciting first round matchup I've ever witnessed. -Quadruple overtime between Dallas and San Jose in Game 6. So much was riding on this game, I couldn't imagine being a fan of either team during this one. -Overtime winner by Franzen in Game 5 against Nashville. -Avery's screen on Brodeur -Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. It will probably go down as one of the greatest Finals games of all time. A buzzkill for Wings fans but memorable no less.

Filpulla's goal was pretty awesome but if you're going to single out a goal in the first two games I think Samuelsson's first was the most meaningful.

So where will the the camera crews be at, Detroit or Royal Oak? I remember in '02 Royal Oak was the place to be but I can't remember if Hockeytown was built at the time.

The guy has done more for the Wings than Lilja will ever do in his career. There's no such thing as loyalty anymore? Not to mention, Chelios has been there and done that. This fact alone is enough to warrant his spot over Lilja. If Chelios messes up in the finals, then you bench him. But he has done enough in his career to earn that spot in the lineup.
