Especially since the Wings are Cup Champions, the new buzz around the league is "smart, puck moving defensemen".

Excellent post. And I can't help but agree 100%. The law of diminishing returns may apply to moving Franzen up to that line. He may be much more valueable on the second line. Its all about roles. Holmer's role fits really well with the first line, and Franzen gives scoring to the second.

He really seemed like he didn't want the puck, and then when he got the puck, he seemed to turn it over a lot. As much as I like McCarty, he skates like he has Yzerman's bad knees from the end of 2002.
-
And remember what Gretzky said when asked "Do you think you are going to score everytime you shoot the puck?" He answered, "I know I won't score everytime I don't shoot the puck." Way to go Sammy!

I'm sure an accident like he had could possibly affect one's VO2 Max for the worse. I wonder if this may be the case with him. Also muscle tissure can have a more difficult time utilizing the oxygen. His lactic threshold could be lower, all kinds of complications, unfortunately.

And Duck Guy, do you think Burke will end up in Toronto soon?
-
We need to sign Cloutier as our third goalie to split back up time with Howard. Cloutier will come cheap and has many skills and techniques to teach the young Howard.

Ohhhhh, damnit duck guy...I really hurt myself on that one...i gotta find my chiropractor's number. Duck Guy, what do you think of Burke's performance this year?
-
damnit im in bellingham that day

Only because you can't skate in Birkenstocks.

Maybe he is still doing the math, refiguring his retirement with gas at $4.75 a gallon instead of the $2.65 it was when he retired the first time, to see if his millions will last or does he need to play one and a half more seasons.

Its the reaching of the Cup after all those years. The goal has been reached, they are still ezhausted etc.

Florida would never make that deal. They are way to shrewd down there. You act as if they would make a trade like Luongo for Bertuzzi or something.
-
Thanks for the hot tip.

That would have been cool. And would have made quite the statement.

I want to thank and congratulate all of you who post on Letsgowings. I live 2500 miles from my home town of Union Lake, Michigan (Walled Lake Central H.S. 1982) . This forum is my main source of Wings info, and I really appreciate it. There are more than a handful of fans here in town, but its great to read the enthusiastic and knowledgeable writings of the Detroit fans. Congratulations to you all, in Detroit and across the world.

He's a stud, thru and thru. You are right, he must have wanted Lidstrom to have his team to himself. Bravo Steve Yzerman.

Dude, seriously, I got weepy eyed when Drake hoisted the'ole Cup. Love that frikkin guy. That interview he did a short while back, where he talked about how psyched he was to get drafted by Detroit. Then he got traded and watched as they won the Cup, won the Cup again, and won it once more. The interviewer asked if he ever thought "what if" and he almost broke down, and said, "of course, I think to myself "what if". Awe man, that was a heartbreaker. I'm so happy for him.

Lets face it; hockey is a bit of a random game. A goalie can steal a game, and weird bounces can have a significant impact on the outcome. You can truely outplay the opponent, but still loose. Yeah, I'm bummed that we didn't win it at the Joe. And we may not win it at all. But I'm not gonna blame Franzen or Huddles. The game is a million miles and hour, things don't always go as planned, and plans don't always have time to get thought out. Its a game of quick responses, and remember; while your gnipping, he's gnopping.

I'd give the Pens credit for a shift here and there and thats about it. They got dominated for the vast majority of the game, and series. All their goals were soft and/or flukey. I don't give them credit for much, but maybe thats because I expected so much more from them.
-
Oh, and you know who else won't get their names on the cup? Bertuzzi and Schneider! Bwahaha! Bertuzzi and Scneider! Bwahahahaaa!

Nice read, thanks for posting it. I agree. If the Wings swept "injury depleated" Colorado and medium sized sleeping dude Dallas, then if they lose one of the first two at home against Pittsburgh, it could stun the Wings just enough, but even more than that, it could really pump up the Pens. The Pens would think that nobody could beat the mighty WIngs but them, so they really must be that great and could end up playing even more out of their minds. Personally, I'm glad they lost; the win streak and dominate play has had an ill effect on me. I've been so psyched about their play lately that I can't concentrate on anything else. At work, on a mountain bike ride, in bed with my Fiancee, all I can think is "Wings are so awesome, Wings are so awesome, Wings are so awesome!" Sheesh. I meet a new client at work and my response is, "The difference is that we really work as a unit; we have a great balance of verterans and youth; everyone nows their role; we back check like crazy; if there is a penalty, we put our best people on it so its not like they are ever sitting out of the loop doing nothing, and we can out skate anybody!". And I live in Washington state for crying lout loud. And my love life; Fiancee has an orgasm, "Tic, tac, toe, to the side of the crease HE SCORES!" Its been hell. Glad they finally lost one. I need a mocha. .

I respectfully disagree. If the Wings hold a big lead into the 3rd, I see the stars respectfully playing out the game, hitting hard but not dirty. They know that they stormed Anaheim and San Jose, and just simply hit the Detroit Red Wing Juggernaut that just can't be stopped. I think they too are somewhat in awe of the Wings, now. I really do. I repeat from my earlier post; Wings 6-2.
