Exactly. And finally today, on Vancouver's Team 1040 sports radio, Ray Ferraro hears the guys say that Dallas isn't getting any chances and when they finally do get a chance they miss the net. Ferraro responds agressively with "Detroit is so fast and skates so well and they all play defense, so they are swarming all over Dallas, so Dallas can't get any shots. And when they finally do have a shot , they know they need to let it fly before it gets poke checked, or somebody jumps into the shooting lane, so they hurry it and don't come close. Thats called defensive pressure by Detroit". I almost shouted outloud "Finally!" when I heard that.

Dude, i like other teams fans on LGW; it really does add a lot to the forum. But if you truley loved your team, you would not want to see them suffer any longer. At this point, you would want them to have as quick and painless of a death as possible. Remember Last of the Mohicans, when the British officer was burning alive at the stake, and Daniel stopped and turned and shot the Brit in the head from long range to put him out of his misery? You really need to hope that Dats, Zetterberg, and and Lidstrom respectfully kill off the Stars, quickly, in more of a sniper fashion rather than a physical beatdown from Drake and McCarty. The Stars are a beaten team, and they know it. And my friend, I think deep down, you know it too. Wings 6-2, 2 sweeps in a row. Edit: Best of luck next year. The Stars had some really awesome stretches this season and I have a lot of respect for them.

The only "comeback" the Stars will be involved in is when they grab a beer at the halfway shack at the golf course later this week, and the bartender says "hey, good to see you guys again, glad you could come back. Oh, and this round is on the Red Wings".

Do you wonder if Burkie realizes that he helped make us stronger?

Yeah, WTF? But since ya suckerred me in, I would trade to get Matt Butcher off Northern Michigan from the Canuckleheads. HE's got size. speed, hands, and can skate. He's got a pedigree ( son of Garth Butcher) he can fight, he's smart as hell, and is awesome in the face off circle. Two yeas ago he was 2nd in the BCHL in scoring, and last year did ok as a Wildcat sophmore. Fourth line of Helm, Hudler, and Butcher. Since you asked. But WTF?, this is a mid July thread!

I agree, it wouldn't suprise me at all if they meet next year, too. Seems like the Flyers were ruff as hell with the Habs, cross check after crosscheck, knockdown after knockdown. Seems i don't see that same play vs the Pens. Is it because of the Pens speed? Flyers just can't line em up like they could the Habs?

Welcome. ANd thanks, its great having other teams fans show interest in the Wings enough to post on LGW. I am really excited about the Stanley Cup Finals. Its going to be quite a showcase. I am scared to death of the Penguins. Not because they posses mad skills, which of course they do. But because they have absolutely no pressure on them and they are young. If the Wings stay focused and don't feel the pressure, this will be the best SCF in years. Best of luck to you and your Penguins, and may the best team win. Go Wings.

First of all, to the original poster, thanks for posting this. I can't help but wonder the same thing. Toward the end of their careers are they going to look back at the opportunity they had...but walked away from it because they were a little too greedy? Secondly, I agree, this team is dynamite. At the beginning of the season, this forum was so worried about the lack of scoring power on this team.

I totally agree. I notice the empty seats on TV. WHen I watch the Canuckleheads or the FLames, those places are rocking with every little PK clear, every little save, they don't let a thing go by without going nuts and its really fun to watch. At the same time, though, I'd probably rather watch the game on my big screen with surround sound, eating pizza in my comfy chair, then get back to working on my 4x4, instead of dropping hundreds and spending 5 hours ( when I used to live in Clarkston) to actually go to more than two games a year. Hell, I don't even want my friends over if they are not big hockey fans. I won't answer the door or the phone or go to a party if the Wings game is on. I do not want to be disturbed or distracted from the game. And as for the earlier post that mentioned the Kronner hit; yeah I saw that and loved how the crowd responded. But later in the game, many hits were not getting much of a response. While I wish the crowd was still as excited at that point, I'm not complaining, its just an observation. MY THEORY is simple. Lets face it, there are many, many factors that contribute to the less than stellar crowds at the Joe. While I do wish that Red Wing fans would go nuts over the little things too, the difference is that while other teams cheer every little thing their team does, its because that may be all they get to cheer about. Their team may be done playing real soon. WE ARE NOT SATISFIED UNTIL THE DETROIT RED WINGS WIN THE STANLEY CUP! 16 consecutive years of playoffs, the janitors at The Joe complain that they have no storage space for their mops and buckets because all the frikkin President's Trophies stuffed into the Janitor closets. Lidstrom didn't even pick up the President's trophy (and rightly so) because that is not our goal. He left it sitting on the table, just did his duty for the NHL front office and smiled while they took his picture with the trophy still sitting on the table. Sure, it's cool to win the Prsident's, but that is not the focus of this organization. We do not get excited about that. WE WANT THE CUP. AND NOTHING ELSE WILL DO. ANYTHING LESS IS FAILURE. Its like dating women. If you usually date 5's or 6's, then you get really excited about a 7. But when you usually date 9's, nothing less than a 9.5 or 10 will get your attention.

No matter what people actually think of the man, he has a lot of history with hockey, he personifies "old time hockey", he points out the hard working people in hockey and praises them, like he did Darren McCarty last night and more than a few times over the years. His comments regarding AL's possible fine for octupus swinging were meant to show how ridiculous he thought the idea of a fine is. He was sticking up for Al and the Wings. He was actually being complimentary and respectful when he used the term redneck, because it used to be a term reserved for people that worked hard outside as carpenters or farmers, and he always identified with that work ethic. It wasn't used as a derogatory term until more recent times. Its too bad that people are so superficial that they get turned off by his suits and his persona. Yeah, he's strange and over the top, but he knows hockey, and has good insights into the game and the players. I always look forward to he and MaCLean during intermission, and still think CBC is the best network to watch hockey on. VS and ESPN are not even a close second.

Fun little read. But as we all know too well, while it all seems to add up on paper, you've still got to play the game. And thats the beauty of it. The Wings need to maintain focus throughout the entire playoffs.

I totally agree. In Vancouver, there's rarely andy credit given to the Wings. You hardly hear anything about them, until all the sudden, Vancouver needs a GM and all you hear is "Kenny Holland, Jim Nil, Steve Yzerman!" Once in a while Ray Nevarro comes on and talks about how good and how deep the wings are and how great the've been and somehow their depth talent like Franzen, Filpula, Cleary and Hudler have stayed under everybody s radar.
-
I totally agree. Like when the Wings were hurt and the Red Griffens had to step into the NHL to help out, the Red Grifffens were losing but never 8 to friggin 2!
-
I agree. Plus he is the Captain of his team; you don't jump ship trying to find a ride to the Cup when you are the Captain of said ship. The Captain goes down with the ship.

I moved out west from Clarkston Mi 10 yrs ago. 1 hr south of vancouver, and 1.5 hrs north of seattle. The Canuck fans try to give me s*** I just smile and say " yeah, the canucks are doing ok for an expansion team, but they're still a 40 yr old virgin" And that usually closes the deal right there.
-
On the one hand, the Detroit Red Griffens did loose 11 out of 12, but on the other hand, they were' t loosing 8-2!
-
Hey, nice avatar, you handsome devil, you!
-
Yeah, Burnaby Joe is a stud. Too bad Vancouver couldn't have traded the farm for him back in his early days and built a team around the home town boy. 8 goals, all Swedes. Two last words for ya; Dust Pan!
-
I agree, thats the most important thing is that they get little time to rest.
-
A sweep is nice, but I'd like to beat em' once more this year at the Zsa (Short for Louzsa instead of the Joe Louis Arena) Thanks for the post those are good reads.

See, you are actually on a hockey forum right now, not a Sunday morning political or economic review. At this precise moment, all we are really concerned about is hockey. So when you say that all we have is hockey, we may just nod in agreement and say, "yeah... so whats your point?" And you do kinda sound like a politician; that was a bunch of hot air but no answer to the actual question that you quoted. Are you by chance sitting at a desk working in a governement office in Philly right now...suppossed to be working for the tax payers but instead are surfing Letsgowings? No one was bashing your town...Philly's a cool city with a hell of a lot of history. Thats why its so funny that there's a statue of a fictional movie character in such a prominent spot.

Wow, they're expensive. I boought the Mccarty revenge and the gaolies fighting for $20 each at a place that used to be in the hockey rink at van dyke and also has a place in macomb mall.
