Whats Drake doing for us that McCarty can't I agree, but thats a BIG "IF". I'm afraid too big. We'll see.

First of all, let me say that I am flatterred that you think its MY plan. I actually have nothing to do with the Red Wings organization. I actually have no influence on their thinking or what they wanna develop. I'm just a fan of the team who shares observations and opinions of the team with virtually anyone that will listen. Apparently, thats where you come in. See, I'm not saying its anyones' actual thought process, hence the term "phenomena"; its something that is just serendipitously happening. Nothing we can really do about it except draft worse and thats not a good thing (meaning its actually a bad thing to do, so I don't expect to observe the Wings actually doing it). Finally, I think its a good thing that the Red Wings have such an abundance of talent, they can't get them all on the ice together. Its what is commonly referred to as "a good problem to have". Picture this. If your nickle bag is overflowing with marijuana, while its bad to loose all the pot that can't fit in, at least take joy in knowing that your bag is as full of weed as possible. Thats a good thing.

I'm just jokin around, thanks for being a good sport. Cloutes was a little frightening though, wasn't he? Reminded me of my dad when I was a kid on a hot day and the lawn mower wouldn't start! Holy s***, dad, give it a rest!

: Nice one. Good little article. Even if its old news, its still always nice to read. Thanks for the link.

No doubt! And did ya see the shoulders on that guy? Of course ya didn't, he didn't frikkin have any! (easy for me to say, I'm sure he'd kick my ass all over the ice, then skate around waving his skinny arms in the air to the crowd... )

I see where you are going with this. I like the idea of rotating a prospy or two in while keeping the momentum and resting guys a little here and there in the middle of the season. In '02 we rested guys at the end of the season and almost lost to Vancouver in the playoffs before getting our rythym back. I don't know about CBA implications (waivers, etc) that others on this forum have brought up, but I like your idea. If we could send down a 4rth liner, he could have a good influence on the boys in GR. And at the same time whoever gets brought up to get a taste of the big show, will have an adrenaline and psyche boost that may raise their play to the next level. Winning is contagious. I think it could be a good way to bring out the best in everyone. It should be easy enough to tell early on if it is having a negative impact on team chemistry. Again, I don't know the CBA ramifications, if its just as easy as giving them a gas card and an Tony Robbins "Awaken the Giant Within" inspirational cd for the 4 hr dive or what?

Thanks for the sweet pic, bro. That alone makes me want to thro down some hard earned cash for a Generals jersey! He's got along way to go. Odds makers please.

Thank you. I think there is a certain phenomena brewing in the league in recent years; the rest of the league is recognizing Detroit's talent at picking and then developing young players. And they know that Detroit is stacked with depth, so they see value in the players Detroit doesn't have the room to keep. Detroits prospects may be more highly coveted by the rest of the league than most other teams' prospects are. And what makes it continue to work, is that the young players know it too. Its a win/win situation. If they are on the bubble in Detroits system, they know that other teams pay more attention to scouting them than other teams farm clubs. If you can't crack the Wings line up, other NHL teams are waiting to pick up the leftovers. Know what I'm trying to say?

Its a win/win situation: McCarty is feeling pretty bad about his place in life right now. Dude is low. He talks to his buddy Drapes (part owner of the Flint Generals) about his come back plan. Drapes figures why not give him a chance. Draper, of all people, knows what its like to be given a second chance and turn it into something successful. Now tell me Mac won't sell tickets in Flint. Of course he will. Drapes gets to help out a buddy and give him a chance, and at the same time increase the revenue for the Generals. And the Wings look good for even meeting with Mac in the first place. Chances are he'll never get past Flint. And everyone knows that. If he actually gets good enough to make it to GR, of course he'll sell tickets there, too. If he gets nothing out of this whole thing but pulled muscles, a bloody nose, and humiliation, then he has closure to his hockey career, and can get up and get his life going by focusing his energy elsewhere, knowing that his old friends gave him a chance when he asked them to. Just the fact that Drapes and the Wings bellieve in him enough to give him this chance may give him the confidence he needs to take on life after hockey. If he beats the odds of a brazillion to one, and actually earns a spot back on the Red Wings roster, the Red Wings organization once again looks like everyone they touch turns to gold, and Mac can retire on the movie rights alone, and T.Low gets misty eyed as he watches DMac score on Ray Hiphop Emery in the game five clincher (so its at home at the Joe) of the SCF. And to all a goodnight

Totally agree. I just hope that if Cloutier ever comes back, we get Proby to protect our goalies from him. He's absolutely MAD! This isn't a goalie fight, but one goalie throwing hammers while the other goalie mao's on a few knuckle sandwitches. I have posted this here before, but seeems there are more than a few newbies here these days. (Warning: Not for the faint of heart or anyone who voted for "Imagine all the people" by John Lennon on the other forum.)

One in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Looked like Grigorinko doing the "Hold me back while I love tap him to death with my gloves still on" routine!

Is there a "Vegas Line" on when Chelios will retire? I'm willing to bet that he's got two more seasons (after this) of whoopass left in him, but three wouldn't suprise me. There is no replacement for experience like he has. Did you see Hockeytown III? He steals the puck from Avery in practice and starts laughing his ass off as he skates away with it. He then tells Avery "as soon as I saw your hips turn this way, I knew all you could do was go that way" so he stepped in front of him and stole the puck. A little thing, but it illustrates the point that the dude has SEEN IT ALL, and knows what's gonna happen before it happens. He can read the game like a book. As long as his body and general conditioning can keep up (or accel) he is gold to the Wings. Like a player coach/hockey history book on the ice and in the room. Between he and Lidstrom, the young guys have two skating defensive hockey text books to learn from. To have him as the #3 or #4 or even #5 Dman is priceless.

I did like the part where the dude throws the other teams gear into their bench, then some one from the other team chases him down and kicks his ass. That was sweet.

There is no way in hell Mac can make it back to the Red WIngs. No way. Absolutely no way. Too old. Too beat up. Too beat down. Too far out of shape. Too bad. But if he does do it and EARNS a spot on the Wings roster, I'll be standing and cheering my ass off as loud as everyone else. But there's no way. I'm just a fan; I don't make the decisons, I just watch what happens.

You'd certainly think so. How many times has been on the US mens team, the US Olympic team, and not to mention, the Captain!?!. And its not like he's just kicking field goal's for Christ's sake, (no disrespect to George Blanda) the guy is playing HOCKEY at the highest levels possible! I'm 2 years younger than he is and my knees and ankles are so bad I can hardly make it to the frikkin bathroom in the morning, how does he do it!?!

Yeeow! I knew it was lopsided but 17-0? OMG. Who was that against? I've played agaisnt some pretty fantastic female hockey players in Men's leagues. I'm 6' 220. One gal (former national champion kick boxer) asked if the "B" on my chest (was wearing my Boston Bruins jersey at the time) stood for *****, cuz "you're gonna be my ***** after this shift!" and proceed to check me half way over the wall into the bench. I've had a crush on her ever since.

Please excuse this thread interruption: There are many great avatars on LGW, but your ranks supreme. I need to find that picture to hang in our rec room by the rod hockey table. Now, back to the regularly shceduled Zetterberg autograph thread.

Wow, impressive work. One thing that of course is not accounted for is the fact that all goals against the goalie are weighted with "equal blame": how much of it was the goalie's fault and how much of it was the fault of the defense. There are situations where the goalie simply cannot be blamed. One game Dom gets three goals against, but one was flukey adn two were kicked in By Lids and Rafalski. That probably comes up as a "poor" game for Hasek.

Seriously, thanks for disagreeing a very civil way. Thought I might get jumped on with that opinion, and didn't have time to craft it maybe as carefully as it may needed to be. Thanks to the gent from Iron Mountain for the supplying the the eloquence I wish i had.

Nope, don't need him. I have two words to describe Emery's attitude: hip hop. Have you seen him at the press table after the games? Emery Kravitz. Not my style.
-
Has anyone asked Steve Yzerman? I seriously would love to know what he thinks the Red Wings need going into the Stanley Cup run.
-
Thats a tough question. A great case could be made for Datsyuk, another for Zetterberg, and another for Lidstrom, and yet another for Osgood. Unsung heroes in Cleary, Holmer, Rafalski,...but jeez, so many of the guys have stepped it up this year. Huds is haveing a break out year, Filp is turning it on, Chelios is still as quick and tenacious as ever, Hasek has stepped up his play as of late. Franzen...everyone. Everyone is playing really well and that is why at the 42 game mark of season the wings have the best record they have ever had in thier history. 40 games from now, it will come down to Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Lidstrom. Just as it should. But none of it matters without the Stanley Cup.
-
I agree with my friend an hour south on I-5 from me. Let the tandem continue to roll. Some of Osgood's level of play this year may have something to do with the fact that there is no pressure on him with Hasek being the higher paid number one goalie. Dom gets all the focus and pressure. They seem to have settled into a good rythym alternating like that, if it stays good, why mess it up? Thye need to concentrate on why the divisional record is poor. What's happening in the divisional games that is not happening in the other games and how can they prevent it from happening in the playoffs. Personally, I would rather place lower in the standings, but still make it into the playoffs, then win the Stanley Cup, than to win the Presidents trophy only to loose in the WCF.
