[ He's like 38 years old now, hasn't been a + player since he left the Wings 4 years ago!!!!! He's got a whopping 3 points this season in 8 games, 2 goals, both on the Power play. His even strength abilities are diminished, etc, etc........ "oh, just put him on a better team"....that's what we always here. Well, sure, he'd probably post better numbers with better people around him like in Detroit, but he plays with good players on a team that's winning games and has a very well balanced, hard working style and he's doing zilch over there. He most closely reminds me right now of Jeremy Roenick. A guy who can still play but is not even 1/2 the player he was 5 years ago. Can anyone say "bell curve". Yeah. He was great. He's 38 now. He went from one of the proudest organizations in all of pro sports to an upstart team. No suprise that he's average with the occassional flash of brilliance. We can't keep longing for the old Sergei. He's gonna skate nicely, play average, and drive his Ferrari. Warren Miller is a dude who makes really radical skiing and snowbarding movies. My favorite quote of his is "if you are a better skiier at 41 than you were at 21, then you weren't much of a skier at 21".

[ Grigs brought up to ride the pine? Learning the NHL game from the press box? WTF? I thought it was time for Grigorenko to $h!te or get off the pot, not kick it upstairs with the big screen, Cokes, hot dogs and Orval Reddenbachers, heavy on the butter! I want to see the guy for myself. They didn't send him back to the west coast already did they?

Dude, I was listening to wxyt via the internet and I think I heard your roars coming from my laptop hooked up to my big Yamaha sound system! Nice job, keep it up.

Thats, cool, Sak-itch is definitely idol worthy. Matter of fact, I was recently wondering why Vancouver didn't ever trade the farm to get the hometown boy back. I know its easier said than done, but how can you not try to build an organization around a hometown "Burnaby Joe" Sak-itch?

You forgot to show your sarcasm. There, I got your back, bro.

Bare with me, here, the draft process for hockey and all the different leagues has always confused me. Matt Butcher was one of five 15 year old Americans taken in one of the drafts a few years back. He was drafted by Vancouver. Then Garth got him out of the WHL and into the BCHL so he could retain his NCAA eligibilty. A year or two ago he had a really good Prospects camp with the Canucks, but for some reason I don't think he went this year. Personally, I am not playing in the beer leagues this year, so I don't see Garth nearly as much. I do know that his 12 year son Ben has jumped up to play with the 14 year olds and is tearing it up. Looking forward to your review next week, thanks again. May try to catch it on the net.

I suspect that Holland & Co. want to see Grigorenko in an NHL game sooner rather than later to re-asses him. Maybe with the Wings doing well lately, plus its early in the season, plus the Canucks are a little flat, maybe its as good a time as any to let Grigs lace 'em up and skate with the big boys to see what he can do. With the normal suspects filling in for injured players, the level of performance will be much less of a drop than if he plays when everyone is healthy. In other words, what better time to $h!t of get off the pot! Edit: Plus he gets three days of full practices with the team before the game with the Canuckleheads. Thats not to be underrated.

Oklahoma State football coach blows up at press conference
T.Low replied to timothy1997's topic in Other Sports
I have either been the subject of or been a witness to more than a few news articles, both sports related and non, and its always amazing to me how incredibly inacurrate they are. ALWAYS! I think its the business of writing and the pressures to "get something out" that creates this story that comes from this loose interpretation of whatever it was the writer was writing about. Whats the big suprise? -
Fun little read. Some of it seems to be cut and paste from articles written in previous years when he was hot. The thought of he and Cleary together on the Grind Line, seems as though they could ingite for some suprise goals at any moment. http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=page&a...rticleid=340601

The hockey following in Canada is like the college football following in the U.S. I listen to the Team1040 sports talk radio out of Vancouver and they talk hockey all day even in July, August, and September. Its awesome. And the network news shows all the WHL and BCHL highlights and scores too. Those are great games, and for $10!

Then they wonder why we want to stay home and watch the flat screen with surround sound in the comfy chair with $6 six packs of beer instead of $6 cups of beer. Speaking of surround sound, there is no sound quite as awesome as a hard around ricocheting off the glass and the boards coming through loud and clear on the Bose speakers

Was gonna go to that game for my Birthday, but apparently I'm not worth $165 per. Went a couple years ago wearing my black Red WIngs practice jersey and really pissed some people off. Was gonna wear my Chelios # 7 Blackhawks jersey this time cause they really show the love for Cheli up there.

I'm sure many of us would like Selanne, but why would he even want to come here? Name me a reason, other then the supposed "him and Filppula are good friends". I don't think he wants to play anymore. If he hasn't made up his mind about playing to this point, it seems to me that he's not going. But hey, what do I know? I'm just a fan that has no believability because I speak in absolutes, right? Exactly. If he wanted to continue playing hockey, he already has a team. And they actually aren't too bad, either. Why would he want to come to the Wings? Am I missing something here?

WOW! You gotta love it when they have the power to get a head of steam going like that and still have the soft hands to dangle. Impressive.

And the Rangers barely got out of Mystery Alaska with 2 points, thanks to one ringing off the crossbar at the end of the game!

Should we be shocked that the Lions are the least favorite team in the
T.Low replied to Jwo's topic in Other Sports
The Lions have been the epitome of mediocrity ever since I can remember (I'm 43yrs old). At work, when we screw up and do something that keeps us from huge success, we always say that we are tired of being the Detroit Lions, we want to be the Indianapolis Colts! We want excellence. The Lions need to wear their throwback uniforms 100% of the time, they are awesome and they play awesome in them! -
Thats frikkin hilarious!

Sweet. Thanks for the hot tip. Will be an easy sell in my household as my wife was a solid stay at home defensemen for a few years and Matt and Garth both helped her out a lot. She adores Matt, and misses going to his games as well. Thanks again.

Michigan State vs. Northern Michigan, Oct 26-27 Anyone likely to go? Skiing-Puck? Our hometown (Bellingham Wa,) rink rat Matt Butcher is now a sophmore at Northern Michigan. Son of NHL defensemen Garth Butcher. Matt was number 2 in scoring his last year in the BCHL while playing for the Chiliwac Chiefs. He didn't get much time as a freshman at Northern last year but his minutes are increasing and he has two assists in 3 games so far this season. If anyone is going to the game, keep an eye on him. I think they play UofM in Marquette tommorrow night. In the BCHL, everyone wanted a peice of "Garth Butcher's kid" so he's a decent fighter and power skates like a freight train. Maybe I'm a little biased because I've tryed to defend against him and his dad and he is a much better skater than his dad. Just an outstanding young man. At half my age, I'd beat on him and try everything and after he'd score with ease he would then proceed to tell me how great I was doing. Class act kid. Takes after his father, nothing but praise from all the locals here in Bellingham. I wish him well and miss being able to see him play. If anyone goes to the game, I'd really appreciate a little recap. Thanks

WIth all this talk of asteriks in sports these days, shouldn't there be an asterik with Langs name in regards to the "Lazy and he sucks" roll? At least the dude scored some key goals for the Wings along the way, so his should read "Lazy and he sucks* *but sometimes scores key goals" Can Grigs fill THAT roll is the question.

He's out of shape Well, due to these new revelations that have come to light, I move that he get in shape, fight for a roster spot, or he can go home to Russia if things don't work out.
-
Yeah. Ya gotta wonder how much of that is his agent trying to make his own reputation or something. Dont these guys have any idea how fleeting an NHL career really can be? During mcarty's final season as a Red Wing, who ( other than Holland, anyway) would have thought that he'd only have one more full season in the league? Take the friggin money and play while ya got the chance! I do miss Markov's attitude on the ice, thats for sure.
-
Shane Doan? Who would want that guy? Not like he was Team Canada's frikkin captain or something. Oh wait, he was. Should come cheap then.

Good points all. Yeah, you look at the names on the Avs roster and ...suprise...Stastny! Wow, he looks good. I agree too, but let's be honest: Did we really think he would bounce back from last season ? It's not a big suprise for me. After the 2002-2003 season his career just spiraled downwards.. Its not a big suprise for me, either, just a disappointment.
