I've observed him comment more than once that he'd like to be Berensens assistant, you know, that way Babcock injects humor into his answers. I think he's been setting the stage with those comments. He's already won the Stanley Cup. At his age, nhl coaching means at least 3 more residence changes. Coaching at Michigan could take him all the way to retirement. He wouldn't have to uproot his family. The travel would be a fraction of what it would be in the nhl. Not to mention, while there are some good organizations to be a part of, most are going to be a big downgrade from Detroit. The big wild card is wether or not he's ready to take an 85-90% hit in salary, from roughly $2m to roughly $200k. (Berensen makes around $225k) As much pressure as there may be on Michigan Hockey, it just might be like semi retirement compared to the nhl.

It can take 3 hrs to get from Seattle to Rogers Place in Vancouver. Most Seattle sports fans know that Todd Bertuzzi did a bad thing to that one guy and now he's not allowed back in the country, and they'd be really hard pressed to name another Canuck. Probably as many Red Wing, Boston, and now Chicago fans as Canucklehead fans. Seattle is a bandwagon market. Right now, the Seahawks and Sounders soccer are hot, but Husky football and Mariners baseball season tickets are easy to get great seats. Sounders fans march across the city to the games, singing together, with other fans coming out of the pubs to job with them, just like in Europe. They meet with the team owner, comedian Drew Cary, at big outside gatherings in the city, and they tell him how they as fans want to participate in the whole scheme of Sounders Soccer and he actually responds quite favorably. They usually sellout the lower bowl, like 47,000 seats or something. That's what Bettman ought to be studying in Seattle. Check it out.

I see this guy wearing a Blackhawks Stanley Cup Champions hat at the airport so I ask him if they'll get by the Kings and he says, "We just did!". So, I politely say, "No, I said Los Angeles, the Kings." "Yeah, we beat em and now we're beating Minnesota". " No, you beat the St Louis Blues. The beer on the bandwagon so good that the hockey's not so relevant, eh?" He didn't get that either. True story.
