It's not unreasonable to think Sammy could have his four goals and three assists if he had the same ice time as Brunner, but he also gives a lot more defensive and physical play.
-
Sammy was a good acquisition at the time. It certainly seems that two years and $2m/per would have made better sense. Or even 1yr. There was no adjustment phase, as he's been a wing before obviously and therefore knows the systems. A right-handed shot we needed for the power play point. Swede background with Canadian light edge. He's actually done well this year. I used to worry every time he got the puck, but now he is much more composed and makes pretty good passes and pretty good decisions. Certainly has more patience with the puck than Tafar for example. He is a versatile depth signing. He can play third line grinder, be plugged into the second or even first-line in a pinch, and be plugged into fourth line minutes. It wasn't a bad acquisition, it was just the contract itself that was poor.

I've been a major KH fan, but he's missing the point. One main problem is secondary scoring and a 3rd line of Tats Helm NyQ is infact the answer. It will also relieve pressure from the 2nd line not scoring. He commented on how close we are to the record looking very different with all those overtime loses. So yeah, just a little bit of scoring from that third line could have made a major difference. Edit: he often says he was brought up too fast as a goalie and it devastated his confidence; he would have been much more successful had he been ripened first. He seriously needs to get counseling to see its a case by case issue. He's right to a point but he's over the top with it.

Exactly. It's because I respect them so much that I am holding them accountable, I'm holding their feet to the fire. We haven't seen a horrible run like this in almost 25 years. You've got to expect some backlash from the faithful. Our team stands at a precipice: we can hurl ourselves into the void and have confidence to make the bold moves which include adding the right youth, and making the one or two trades that put us right back into the elit; Or we can be timid and afraid to make these moves, and hold on too long to players who gave us their all and have nothing left to giver, and watch this team fall out of contention for years to come. You are right: we are not that far from Cup contention. But you are wrong if you don't see how easily we can deviate from that direction by holding on to long to mediocre depth veterans that have nothing left to give

Not holding my breath. Believe it when the clock is running and he's skating in the Winged Wheel.

We need to recall Blashill and send Babcock down. We got to put our best coach behind the bench.
-
I think back to when Fedorov went to Anaheim and Babcock finally called back to Detroit and said "What do I have to do to get this guy to score?" When he first arrived in Detroit all he basically had to do was to manage the talent, not really coach them. This team is begging for some actual coaching. And now that we actually have a team that needs coaching, he is distracted by Team Canadas duties.

When your favorite band puts out a new album and it sucks and is unbearable to listen to, do you keep playing it over and over again? You keep listening to it or do you go listen to something else? That hockey was painful to watch.

I wish I were there so I could get up and walk out. This is awful. I do love the Belle Tire cougar, though., so it's easy enough to watch on tv

Yeah, my first thought was to put Smith with Abby and Miller, just for a look see. Seems to have the toolkit to play forward. Anyone else see the irony of having too many forwards yet only dressing 11 tonite? Sheesh , what a clustercluck.
-
And Bertuzzi is about to start racking up the hefty legal fees, unfortunately. That reason alone will push him to play as long as he can

Sincere thanks for putting a nugget of value into this deteriorating muddy mess of a thread.

6-1 Caps w/ Pavel scoring. I may watch PBS instead (yawn) and catch Pav on the highlights. Which would support my theory that He is a bit overrated and not nearly as almighty as every seems to think.

ZDB plays it. The rest of the team plays gnip gnop: While you're gnipping, they're gnopping!
-
In his case it's because he keeps the puck moving fast with his great passing or he's protecting it like a mama bear, which all mostly nullifies his lack of speed. The guy has the incredible vision, instincts, and skills to line w 13 & 40 as opposed to Abby who just quite didn't have enough . Plus he adds a major bit of gruff to that line: guys are still intimidated by the old bear. No one has supported Babcock and Holland more than me, but its starting to piss me off.
-
Exactly. Now you are beginning to understand just how special that team was.
-
And of course as we all know, playoff games are where the real revenue comes from, so it is a good business plan also.
-
You gotta think its stressing out Babcock big time Mrs Babcock must be sick of hearing Hollands name being cursed at the dinner table. On the other hand, I'll bet Holland has an awesome car collection.
-
When Weiss returns slot him into the 3rd line between nyquist and Tatar until AllStar break to get the system down. Could prove to be a great third line during that period, then we have three pretty good lines for a change.

Our big pickup of the offseason, no doubt.

After reading this thread he of all people needs the Invincibility tattoo, if he's going to get any ink at

Love the Freudian pun.

Atleast its looking more like he'll get rested during the Okympics.

We certainly don't have the puck movers on the back end. OT lose was inevitable the way we were turning it over all nite This is a good losing streak, in a Hegelian Dialectics sort of way. Moves will be made to upgrade the personell.
