    Edler trade proposal

Franzen, Smith, Samuelson, and Emerton for Edler, Kassian, and David Booth. Vancouver needs Sammy back on the Sedins line, and he could be talked into going to Vancouver for first line minutes, on the same line where he scored his career highs. David Booth has been injured a lot in Vancouver, couple that with his affinity for Jesus and hunting, and most of progressive Vancouver hates him. Send Kassian to GR to get minutes and confidence. Z D Bert Booth W Alf NyQ Andy Tatar Abby Helm Eaves Toots/Mills Kronwall Ericsson Edler Dekeyzer Quincy Kindl Lashoff Cleary can drive Mr. Ilitch.

    Sky train to Canuck game

Vancouver is such a kickass city, II used to go up there all the time, its been way too long. Thanks for all your suggestions. Ended up parking right across the street a block down for $20. Figured the tix were free so...a beer and a smokey and a pretzel and a win. Yeah man. Went to the Joe last year while home visiting Rogers Arena was a lot quieter.

10/30 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Canucks 1

I'll be there. It's been a while. Last time I was there a little kid had a sign that read "Igor, Pasha, Pride of Russia" and Datsyuk flipped a puck over the glass to him.

Why Do They Trust The Youngsters?

Generally speaking, it's not so much a case of having a lot of trust in the youngsters. It's more that their veterans haven't taken them anywhere so there's no proven track record to adhere to.

Anson Carter one great year with the Sedins. Moved on to nowhere.

You mean we still play puck possession? Hmm, didn't recognize it...

Why Do They Trust The Youngsters?

Tatar, Butterfield winner at the Calder Cup, got off one SOG against the lowly Rangers.

    What's Killing Our Offense?

I agree with Kipwing. We we don't have the talent to play the puck possession style that we've been playing the last many years. Our D could hardly connect any passes to our wings last game it was really ugly.

    Edler Suspension Aftermath.

I don't see how he could have made solid body contact without giving up his advantageous position, because of Hertls body being hunched over and leading with his head. And like I stated in my edit above, if Edler would have gone straight for the puck then he would have taken the brunt of the impact by far. Fwiw, Edler is angling slightly away from the red line If you take that play out of hockey, you are making a major paradigm shift in the structure of the game. When I played football and hockey, I really enjoyed hitting. One of my most memorable moments as a defensive back was a play similar to Edlers: I caught the ball carrier under the shoulder pads and sent him flying into his own Gatorade table, the whole thing collapsing down on him. I suppose I should be on the forefront of changing these games I love, as I now suffer from an incurable fatal disease that the NFL says may be concussion related (ALS-Lou Gerhig's disease) but to me, hitting is an integral part of the game, even though I am convinced it causes CTE. Quite the catch 22. But that's another thread...

    Edler Suspension Aftermath.

In my opinion, no he did not target the head. The problem is, Edlers most successful option is to get there first and block Hertls path to the puck. But of course Hertl is leading with his head so any contact could very well be head contact If Edler would have gone straight for the puck, then he would have taken the brunt of the impact. I can't see that play being taught any other way. This is why it will be virtually impossible to get head contact out of the game. Head shots maybe. Head contact, No way.

    Edler Suspension Aftermath.

Edler actually got there first. All he did was go hard on the park and prepare for contact. Hertl was actually moving three-quarter speed not paying attention and not preparing for contact. I can't think of a single Red Wing that would have been lax enough in that exact situation to actually take that hit. Easily sidestepped I agree with your overall point of Eastwest headshot hits, but this simply is not one of them.

    10/21 GDT: Sharks 1 @ Red Wings 0 (SO)

Oh God, we are going to get killed. I'm saying it will be five to nothing and will finally get a goal towards the end of the game.

    Coaching Error

The Wings gave up 40 shots to Phoenix, and even with six skaters on the ice we couldn't stop their goalie from shooting. We did not deserve to win that game.

    Brendan Smith

I still think our best bet is to make him a forward. Package a forward and whatever For a good D man and move Smith upfront ah la Brett Burns. A couple years down the road you've got Smith Andy Mantha or Smith Helm Mantha He's got the tools and the skills and enough speed, he's just mis- cast as a defenseman.

    The Daniel Alfredsson Appreciation Thread

I like Bert on the top line for most of the game and then switching it up with Alfie. I think they can make the switch seamlessly, but it really throws off the defense When that line scored last night all I could think of was " old guys rule "when they school the young guys.---Me being an old guy, of course. The way Zetterberg has come out of the gate, it's as if he wants to make sure Alfie gets the Stanley Cup on his watch. All of Sweden will love Z for getting Alfie the Cup.

    Kronwall Injury Update

I had to listen to that ****** bag last night on Center ice. He changed his tune right away, sounded like his producer got in his ear and told him what a moron he was. And before that I perused HF boards Colorado to learn a little more about the team ( as if) All they did was trash the city of Detroit. Pure class on both fronts. It's pretty early in the season, but you've got a good chance for stupid post of the year.
