Spoken like a guy who likes to read the stat sheet instead of someone who can watch the game. And I'd be all over Lidstrom if he played the way Smith has played in the playoffs I really like Smith and really hope he becomes a great defenseman. But this year in the playoffs he has been worse than anyone I have ever seen before in professional hockey at any level. It's that simple.

Really his only redemption will come from a game-winning goal tomorrow.

I'd actually say he is more of a crap shoot than a liability: You really have no idea what you're going to get when he is on the ice. He has ruined whatever trade value he may have had. We need to manage him better than we have. I hope he doesn't make another colossal game costing mistake that loses Game 7, but if he does, who here will be suprised? (Nobody on the Wings bench will be)

H Agreed We'd have won by now with Lashoff in for Smith. I have never seen anyone make so many colossal mistakes that directly result in goals against. White didn't come close to the catostrophy that Smith is.

Yep, funny, sad, and true. Playing Smith over White is mortgaging the present Cup run for the future.

I totally agree that less experienced players like Smith are going to struggle and make a ton of mistakes. I think what people are upset about, well me anyway, is that if Ian White were playing instead of Smith we would have won the series with Chicago by now.

Ray Ferraro on Vancouver's team 1040 this morning talking about Nyquist. He says unfortunately Filppula will have a market value of 5 million and Detroit will not be able to keep him. Nyquist will be his replacement. I'm thinking maybe not as good on defense but definitely a more potent offense of threat. Tatar replaces Nyquist on the third line. i hate to see Filppula go, but I think we can live with it.
