Exactly. Knowledge to be in the right place at the right time, speed to break out and rush, presence of mind to cut over to the half boards to open up a lane for Cleary down the center, and the skill to hit Cleary on the tape at the net with everyone going full speed: he had Marc Andre Blurry on that one. You gotta wonder when a guy like him looks so confident and effective out there, what the heck happenned in Dallas and Pittsburgh that they didn't keep him around? Do they have a hockey player factory in Livonia or something?

I just don't understand meanness and the disrespect shown between so many LGW members. It overshadows any of the real discussion and is too bad for the forum. I'm on a few political forums, a couple 4x4 forums, some motorcycle forums, etc, but none of them have the meanness between members that I see displayed here. And I'm taking into account that on LGW, Sidney Crosby is more polarizing than Obama, The Pope, and abortion.

I really like Ian White on our defensive unit, even if he did play the villian in "Transporter". What was that character's name, "Wall Street"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n85iT8jAapk

I agree, waaaaay over the top. Embarassingly so. I would like to objectively admire his play on my own without anybody in my face about how great he is. It's militantly distracting. On the other hand, that little f***** is amazing. We are worried that Z has topped out and his body is letting him down, to no real fault of his own. Sidney Crosby, as much as I don't care for the guy or the hype that comes with him, was head and shoulders more productive than any other player in the league when he left, and he is still getting better every season. I hope he stays healthy so I can see what he can accomplish in the years to come. Datsyuk is amazing and has unbeleivable skills and moves and is an absolute joy to watch, but his skills don't translate to production like Crosby's do. I do think that Crosby's continuous improvement will inspire Datsyuk to higher levels of production. Absolutely well said, HS. Incidently, the Vancouver Team 1040 sports talk guys say it's past time to have the conversation about Lidstrom surpassing Orr as #1. Not that he definitely is, but the conversation is up and running. They list all the reasons why and it's a great discussion.

Exactly. Thorton out hustled us on the first goal and then Vlasic out hustled Lazy Little Hudler for the wrap around.

Tonite, Tampa vs Chicago and Connelly is standing half in the goal and half in the crease, behind and to the side of Emery. The puck hits his one skate that is outside the goal but inside the crease, and it stays out of the net. He hits the puck inbetween his legs, somehow with one skate still inside the goal, and scores a good goal. The War room reviewed and right away said good goal. What am I missing here? If that were Holmstrom they would have called the game a forfeit and sent all the Wing's fans home early. Just happenned, couldn't find a link yet.

Thanks LGW for clearing that up for me.

I hope his back is not the problem. It may be handcuffing his shot just enough to let goalies get on it.

I agree that there was no goalie interference. My confusion is that I personally have had a game tying goal waved off because a team mate's foot was in the crease. No interference, just in the crease. Is it or is not legal to be in the crease (without interference for arguement's sake) when the goal is being called? Besides, I thought that was the whole point of the Holmstrom cartoon "In the Crease, Outta the crease was because it's illegal. Here there is no discussion of interference, only about wether or not he was in the crease.

If the Wings can't get up for a game against the Ducks, they've really lost their Mojo. It's not even so much that they win, they just need to compete.
-
Sorry to confuse the issue. It's not wether he kicked or not. While the puck did hit his skate, with his back against the crossbar he pulled it backwards into the net with his stick. So the issue is that he was not only in the crease, like Holmer gets called for all the time, but Connolly was also in the actual goal, inside the net at the time of his own score. How is that legal? Watching it again and pausing the video it's plain to see that both his skates are actually inside the goal line in the net when he scores. Click on the play button next to "Connolly" http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?hlg=20112012,2,181&fr=false

Exactly. If we had given up, we wouldn't be here. We're Wing's fans for better or worse, and right now it's worse, so we're not happy. But we're still here.

On the other hand, the trade worked out really well for Vancouver: Wild 5 Canucks 1 SOG: Wild 45 Canucks 25 That's right. The Minnesota Wild put up 45 shots on the Canucks. That team is really lookiing like they miss Erhoff.

It's gotten to the point where some of this has to fall on Nick Lidstrom's shoulders; he is the Captain, he is the leader, yet this ship looks rudderless and heartless. There; I said it.

How is that a relevant arguement? That was the stretch where over half our payroll was in bandages and we had to call the kids to drive from shore to shore. This time we are healthy in body, but lacking in heart and courage.
-
Hopefully the team won't read LGW today and then take the night off again knowing you've got it coverred this time.

Not the same, that was the Red Griffins.

I acknowledge that these are two very different rosters. That's the unsettling part: You never know which team is going to show up from one half period to the next, over the last several years. I want more passion, more grit, more foaming at the mouth, less process, less calculation, less cerebral because you cannot turn it on and off like they seem to think they can. Keep it simpler, keep it hungrier. Babcock says he wants new ideas; well here's a new idea, how bout playing your ******* ass off.

I can't watch the game tonite. Is the archive section to Dumnj's site self explanatory? I'm thinking I should be able to stream the game tomorrow?

Hasek was possibly the greatest. Definitely my favorite goalie ever. So glad we had a chance to enjoy him in a Wing sweater. But then he too got old. How many times his last season did we groan after he let in a softie right at the beginning of the period? TIme waits for no man, and contrary to what we'd like to think, it hasn't waited for Dominik Hasek, either. Enjoy the memories.

The record isn't the point The point is how they've been playing lackluster halfhearted hockey. Last year they started out with a great record with everyone scoring at will then it seemed like they took their foot off the accelerator to save something for the playoffs and then never got their Mojo back. Sat around for three frikin playoff games while San Jose mopped up the ice with them. All the skill and talent and systems any team could ever want... Wasn't it 2007 that they started out dominating with like three guys in the top five for points, assists, plus minus, saves, wins, everything. Gimme the Wings that came out in the first ten minutes against Minni last night and I'll show you a bonafide Cup Contender. Gimme the Wings of the 2nd and 3rd period of the same game and I'll show the end of a great era in Hockeytown.

I like a lot of things about Todd Bertuzzi being on this team. However, he looks like he is pacing himself for a long season and a long post season, at a pace a younger guy would not have to do. This early season pace of his does not look good on him. But it also looks like most of the team is doing the same thing. They need to play all out for 60 minutes and get a winning rythym going, then rest guys by rotating others in every few games, not resting on the ice for most of a couple of periods during games.

12 pages and plenty of trade ideas, 5 game skid, looks more like a Detroit Yacht Club than an NHL hockey club, not sure why this OP still has a neg 21(?). In the first ten minutes of the 2-1 OTL to Minni they showed how dominant they can be when they want to be. Is it time yet to get someone in here who is hungry and will go all out and score some goals?

Bring out ye dead...Bring out ye dead!

I would have liked to see Babcock let Cleary sit and heal that upper body injury while Barnstorm skates on the Pavels wing to see what he can do. In hindsight, it couldn't have hurt anything.
