Just curious; Has anyone ever heard of an owner getting busted for paying a player additional money under the table. Seems like there could be so many ways to funnel money under the table to players to keep the team under the cap. Something like what the politicians do all the time. Cash, or paying for kids college or use of the team plane to a free condo in the Carribean (ha ha) , deposits in off shore bank accounts, or... Anyone ever heard of anything?

Actually, I'm the one that said he was drafted as a checker, and now has developed into a skilled scorer , albeit somewhat of a streaky one at that (5 goals one game, then a huge unproductive drought afterwards). I didn't ignore that fact; that fact makes my point that he has not been the big natural goal scorer, not used to being the guy that is looked upon to score the goals every game. I'm not whining about the guy, I'm just stating facts that he is one example that the team doesn't have a natural scorer to rely on. Maybe this is the year he est I'll say it again; For low draft picks, we have an unbelievable team. That doesn't change the fact that we have no honest to goodness natural scorer. Mathmatically, we'd be better off spending the same amount of money on a better natural scorer and a youngster than asking Franzen and Hudler to carry the mail. If you read into that, that I don't like Franzen, well, that is fine except that it's wrong. Our big playoff performer is a checker that no one ever heard of until he developed into a suprise playoff performer. He's awesome for who he is, but he is not a big natural scorer...yet anyway. Where do you get the idea that I don't appreciate the Red Wings roster? I can't state an observed fact for discussion's sake? If you didn't mean 30, why did you say 30? If a guys scores 27 goals, he does not make the list of guys that scored 30 goals. Again, that's not my fault, it's just fact.

Out of Franzen's 6 seasons in Detroit, only one season he was a 30 goal scorer. That was the same season Hossa was in Detroit and was a 40 goal scorer.

Tuff to choose iust one, so I'll go with a guy that I work with, Dennis Sobchuk, 79-80. I'd luv to see him on Pav's wing. Go, Dennis, Go! http://redwingslegends.blogspot.com/2011/04/dennis-sobchuk.html

The point is, the OP is not as wacky as he seems to a lot of people on this thread. Someone else brought up that specific trade, I was just usuing it as an example of why a trade could be good for this team. Is that your only response to my post, to debate the hypothetical trade? The last time I checked, the NHL still keeps score during the games. We have a lot of skilled guys that do all of the little things right, but do not have anyone to count on to do The Big Thing right. I think if Holland would have known then what he knows now, (how streaky Franzen is and how unreliable Hudler is), he would have found a way to keep Marion Hossa instead. Eventually, Hossa would have lightenned his death grip on the stick and been a horse the Wings could ride. Hossa Dats Holmer/Brunnstrom Z Fil Clears Bert Helm Eaves Miller Emmerton Abdelkrasher

Here's the worrisome thing about this Wings roster: There is/has not been a pure goal scorer. Franzen was a checker turned skillful streaky scorer. Datsyuk has never been a big consistant goal scorer, neither has Zetterberg. Cleary has his moments but that is not his primary game. That is why I would trade Hudler and Ericsson in a heartbeat for Iginla. It's weird. One day I look at the roster and wonder where the goals are going to come from. The next day i look at the same roster and smile thinking that any of these guys can go off and score. They are all capable. But none of them have the dogged nose for the net, and scary hard drive the net only focus. Nobody is always hungry around the net ALL the time. Yes it is hard to find those guys at the lower draft picks the Wings have had in the last 20 yrs. We've done super to get what we've got, no doubt, but that still leaves us with no real natural goal scorer.

Jackets sign Wisniewski: 6-years $33-million ($5.5m/yr)

C'mon, Dude, it's way early yet! If you start laughing now you'll be completely exhausted by the end of the season! -
Bingo. It seems almost too obscure of a trade to have ever gotten off the ground until you look at it that way. Sammy had gotten off to a slow start this season (along with the rest of the team) and they fans have actually been jeering Luongo. I think Gillis did it to shake things up in the room a bit and also to just to make some new news to get the media talkiing about something else other than Luongo. Sammy seems to have spent a lot of his time in Vancouver injured, too. Knowing Talon and Gillis are talking enough to actually make a trade duriing the season (who does that anymore?), I wouldn't be suprised to see Luongo back in Fla if things continue to get toxic for him here (Vancouver). His family is still there (from what I understand) and Vancouver is stocked at Goal (Corey Schneider is ready to be a #1 somewhere, and apparently they have the best goalie in the minors also), and mostly because Talon is one of the few GM's not afraid of taking on a humongous contract like Luongo's. This market is eating him up and he can't take the heat, soon it will be time to get out of the kitchen.

Yes the NHL is boneheaded, the scheduling is ridiculous, yada yada yada. However, to state that you place the blame for the lose on the back to back games with travel is equally as ridiculous. You would not have been negged if you simply said "it didn't help" rather than being such a Homer as to actually place the blame. They played 12 to 22 minutes of hockey one night, then had a 1:27 flight from Detroit to DC and had to play again later that evenning, in the same time zone. Not to mention they've been playing back to backs every Friday & Saturday since they were 15 yrs old. Juniors is almost all back to backs. They're used to playing in Medicine Hat and then riding a crappy old bus to Kamloops for a game the next night, for crying out loud. Whatever you do, don't give any credit to the undefeated Washington Capitals and their new dedication to Red Wing style hockey, the Red Wing prospects they ended up with in thier lineup, the goalie that kept them in the game, the bad hockey bounces, etc. God, I hope no other team's fans are looking at this thread.

Jeebus, guys, it's not like they are racing bicycles 135 miles through the Pyrenees and then have to do it again the next day against guys who are fresh! They're top level world class athletes playing 12 to 22 minutes of hockey!

Apparently his knock has been lack of grit and work ethic. Therefore, it would be unwise to give him any type of Prima Donna treatment by instantly inserting him into the top six, even though that is where his type of style fits. He needs to earn it , needs to prove he belongs. He will have to go the Danny Cleary route of busting his ass and learning to be grittier and then when Hudler is gone next year he may have a spot. And it's a long season, we always have injuries so space opens up. I hope he turns into atleast nearly what was initially hoped for back 3 years or so ago. Also, Babcock and Holland need to take a look at why Ville Leino didn't work and then was instantly successful in Philly. Was just the way it was? Was it something they could have done differently? Was it Detroit vs Philly systems? It would atleast be good to have an idea of the reasonning behind the experience. Edit: All I've seen of him was him getting knocked around by Toronto in preseason. Unimpressive to say the least. Just sayin...

That's funny. Simple, but very effective. Thanks. Edit: I wish he would play soon; I'm anxious to see what he can do, also.

How have I never seen that before?!! Is that a Hiei original?

Can anyone elaborate with any accuracy on why Eaves is a helathy scratch two games in a row? Is Miller really out working him in practice or what? I seem to remember Miller wiffing on an open net that Eaves would have buried last game.

Nice thread, Esteef. Too bad nobody got the beginning of the fight. I'm not that familiar with Lapierre, even though I live in Greater Canuckistan. How does he rate comapred to (Door)Matt Cooke? For example, if Cooke is the Benchmark of Douchedom at a 10 rating, would Lapierre be an 8? 7?

Same here. Thaks to both of you. I have Clear internet service and it sucks; too often i end watching a virtual slideshow of the game

Tell the Illitch Family to Drop "Presented by Amway"

True. Not too many fans getting in trouble because they crashed their car due to the lifetime supply of shampoo and window cleaner they ended up with in their trunk. Amway>alcohol This post brought to you by Sam Bernstein. -

WALLSIDE WINDOWS I have paddled by the owner's house on White Lake. He has a window on the back of his fireplace so I can see the fire as I paddle by at night. It's sweet. He also has a 14 car garage in the basement that I imagine to be quite sweet also. Amway is native to Michigan. And I remember the first million dollar home sold on Deer lake in Clarkston went to an Amway person. -

Are you going to protest the Belle Tire Power Play, too? I actually like the Belle Tire Power Play. Whenever my wife wants to get my undivided attention, she begins by saying, "I challenge you...". -
They were'nt my thoughts until you guys pointed it out. I hope you guys are right. D depth at a $mil.

And please, quit calling him Shirley. He'll get mad at you like he got mad at Helmer.
-
Thank God. Now we don't have to read anymore posts on LGW to sign him. Like I've said before, Kenny's not stupid: He saw Helm exploit Jovo's weaknesses and bring out the frustrated grumpy old bastard side of him that we definitely do not want in a Wings sweater. He had his day and was pretty decent, and now he's going to Florida like all old people. Not a bad semi retirement plan for him. A win win situation for all.

If you liked the penalties Abby took in the playoffs, you will love Potatoes O'Brien. He will also pick fights when his team is winning. There are concrete reasons why his former teams are indeed his former teams: He's definitely not the smartest puck in the bag. I wish he could be the answer; he is not.

He's either BBQing with Brett Farve, or he went to the same place the Sedin twins went to when they were suppossed to be playing Boston in the Finals, wherever the hell that was nobody seems to know either.

If he's cheap enough, and can play 40-50 games while one of the youngsters gets 40 games experience on his days off, his sniping could come in handy and especially in the playoffs.
