While it is not in the forefront of my mind when i watch Todd bertuzzi these days, I really don't think anyone has forgotten that, it was played over and over again and talked about and talked about over and over again for a long time. I've always seen Bertuzzi as one of those guys that thinks too much and thinks too slow for as much as he thinks. Wether it's trying to get a sleeze bag to fight with him, sitting in a post game interview after a loss, or making a pass. He definitely plays his best when he just plays and let's his instincts take over. He's a natural talent, but he's not a clear thinker. And yeah, Gordie How Hatrick; if you can't discern a difference in Vick's case and Bertuzzi's case...oh well.

Well put. Absolutely cannot be compared to Vick and should never be on any list Vick is on. Qoute from (Pit Bulls get a ) BAD RAP blog by Donna, a pit bull owner that the feds needed as an expert witness: "Everyone we worked with was deeply affected by the case. The details that got to me then and stay with me today involve the swimming pool that was used to kill some of the dogs. Jumper cables were clipped onto the ears of underperforming dogs, then, just like with a car, the cables were connected to the terminals of car batteries before lifting and tossing the shamed dogs into the water. Most of Vick's dogs were small - 40lbs or so - so tossing them in would've been fast and easy work for thick athlete arms. We don't know how many suffered this premeditated murder, but the damage to the pool walls tells a story. It seems that while they were scrambling to escape, they scratched and clawed at the pool liner and bit at the dented aluminum sides like a hungry dog on a tin can." http://badrap-blog.blogspot.com/2009/05/op-eds-on-vick-news.html Bertuzzi is a big strong guy trying to carry out the code and made one bad decision that came with very unexpected results, and as it stands today, the victim is alright. Vick ran this dog fighting ring for 6 years ; he is a sick person.

You, sir, have some very good insights. I do think his neck broke at the precise moment of head impacting the ice from Bert's one handed strength driving him into it, an instant before the pile piled on. Purely speculative, though. Can you imagine a coach or another player walking into Moore's hospital room and saying what half the people wanted to say; "Dude wtf was your problem? Why didn't you punch the guy when you had the chance instead or turning and skating away like a *****?"
-
I agree. And I disregard this poll starting with the way it is framed: It is impliying that it's a given that said athlete is hated, it's just up to the pollster to say how much. The casual sports fan is to click on a picture of an athlete and say how much they hate them with the scale already based at 5; the pollster either has to lower or raise the cursor. The casual sports fan who knows less about hockey than they do womens tennis is going to look at a picture of Bertuzzi not knowing anything of what his teammates think of him, not knowing anything about what his coaches have thought of him, or his peers throughout the league think of him, they are just going to remember ESPN showing the clip over and over again of him jumping Moore and the tragic result and they are going to think "oh yeah, I remember that Bertuzzi hit on that guy, he was scum!". That was a very bad thing he did, (and as already stated in an above post, he didn't go looking to break Moore's neck and end his career like Vick went looking to electrocute dogs and watch them die as he took pleasure in killing them with his bare hands). Point is, it was a one time, stupid, unfortunate thing that happenned as Bertuzzi felt the weight of his team on his shoulders to be the guy that evenned the score trying to get retribution for a cheap hit on his friend and Captian, as is the "code" in hockey. He went about it wrongly, and the results were horrible. McCarty could have easily turned and caught Lemiuex in the adam's apple by mistake with that first punch he thruogh that Lemiuex was not ready for. Yeah, he could have killed him with that punch. Thank God it didn't and we all got to rejoice in McCarty getting evenning the score for Drapes. I challenge anybody to cite a 2nd and 3rd dirty hit ever by Todd Bertuzzi.

Thanks for the well wishes! You guys rock. I guess I'll go ahead and introduce Olivia Cleary Lowell, not even a full day old yet. IF she gets a sister, it'll be Lilja Mae Lowell. Then we'll have Livs and Lils. Go Wings! Jen (aka The Jenerator) and Little Livsey Clears. Who wouldn't wish that, but they are very different players. The sniping shot is one of the few things Filpp could really improve on.

I missed the Filppula goal, my wife got home from grocery shopping and went into labor. We heard the last of the game just before we left for the birthing center. We brought home a beautiful little girl that my wife named Olivia Cleary Lowell. Happy Holidays my fellow Wings fans.

Holy...! I didn't see your subtitle so I read the stats and wonderred how many games that was for!
-
The key to my game was my first stride and my overall quickness. Once I lost my quickness advantage due to age and injury, my game went to hell. Unfortunately, you certainly could be right about Drapes. Yeah, thats right; I'm comparing my wee little experience to Draper's situation in the NHL.

Abdelkrasher with a little iFlip rotated in every now and then?

If there were a Conn Smythe for LGW, you'd have it awarded under your profile pic because for my Red Wing's experience (having moved 2500 miles away from Detroit), you've been MVP for sure. Thanks for the hook up. BTW, thats an impressive looking kit you have there, what brand is it and what type of hardware are you using? (Do you have a link?) In a previous lifetime I banged out on an old Ludwig kit with Zildjian and Paiste, trying to imitate Neil Pert, John Bonham, and Mitch Mitchell. Nowadays if I want to get my fix, I put youtube clips of Tony Royster Jr or Carter Beauford on my 58" plasma. It's about time for Modano to bust out with a couple goals. Go Wings.

Maybe Pavs can put on a weekend clinic for some of those boys, coupe of 'em could sure use it.

It must be the stream. The screen is only showing less than half the view so you can hardly see anything; I imagine it must be very difficult for the Wings to play under those conditions.
-
Yeah, it's killing me dude.
-
Thanks for taking the time to suggest that, but it's till not working correctly for me. I keep logging in and out. And it doesn't matte rweather I'm on the laptop or on the (computer driven) tv. I'll keep trying unless someone has a bettr stream. Man, the period sure flies by fast when you are trying to get your stream on.
-
Yeah, the Redwingslive/justintv stream is only showing the left half of the screen. SOmeone call Sam Bernstein and tell them only half of his commercial is visable. Modanos' gonna score soon.
-
Saw that on NHL vids yesterday. Nice new move to add to his repertoire. Obviously still sufferring brain damage from fighting Pavel.
-
SO who picked Hudler in the LGW Whiping Boy thread? Tell 'em what he won, Johnny!
-
The positive aspect is that all the other boys on the team are working even harder pulling their own weight and his so that we are still winning while he get's intouch with his emotions, his self esteem, and confidence. :puke: If you think LGW is harsh on Hudler now, just imagine how bad it would be if we had been losing.

Watching old games, thoughts on hitting & where it's headed
T.Low replied to theman19's topic in General
F.Micheal and I also brought up that idea in a hitting thread last week. The amount of armor the player's wear these days works just as much as a weapon as it does protection. If a guy is more exposed due to wearing less protective shoulder and elbow pads, he is going to slow down the hit a lot. The trick there will be to formulate equipment that can somehow discourage 25mph hits but still be protective for 95mph slapshots. It never ceases to amaze me how much crap an OP gets around here. -

Almost sounds like you are making more of an observation than a question, because you answer it there at the end of the previous paragraph. But whatever it is, I agree that it's legitimate point: A hit that used to be rewarded with adulation of hockey peers is now penalized and looked down on. IMO, it's evolution. The post lockout rule changes did away with the clutching and grabbing and hooking and thus the game has gotten quite a bit faster; scary fast in some incidences. The likelyhood for bigger injury hits more often, is a result of that less inhibited speed. Because of this, and the fact that players in general are bigger, faster, and stronger than ever before, the game is faster than it has ever been. Now, the owners simply want to protect their assets a little more these days. No businessman wants to be on the hook for $5m/yr for Concussion Head Guy. It is similar to what the NFL has done via rule changes to try to protect it's quaterbacks and recievers. Jack Lambert would never be able to hit guys coming across the middle like that these days. -
Yes. While he will never be the Toddzilla of '02, he is proving to be quite a valueable Red Wing and a helluva bargain.

You don't notice Who?dler? If this is the Juri Hudler Watch Thread, first we're going to have to find him before we can start to watch him. My friend is a retired Bloomfield Hills detective; I'll call him.
