Looks like Hedberg is holding out in ATL

I'm gonna buy a map of the world and put pins in all the places I have travelled to. But first, I need to travel to the far corners of the map so it doesn't fall down.

    Versteeg a Leaf

Don't forget, once they rid themseves of Huet they will still not lose all of his cap hit because a certain amount of it still needs to go for Niemi's huge pay raise. (Where's the accountant on the calculator emoticon when you need it?)

1st Round Pick (21), Riley Sheahan

Good point, shoulda drafted a 7 goal scorer instead. I mean what did Kirk Maltby do in the NHL besides win 4 Stanley Cups and play 1000 career games and 116 playoff games.

    Take Your Pick

Burish is a jaggoff. Unbelievable what he said about Pronger while he was wearing that sophmoric little "WINNER" medal. No classless moron needed in the Winged Wheel.

    Sakic vs Yzerman Debate

Burnaby Joe was awesome. Sakic had an amazing career, putting up great numbers and collecting good hardware. He was cool, he was a leader, he was a warrior, he was talented, and he was a winner. I always wanted Vancouver to make a big push to somehow sign him and bring him home to build a franchise around. He was a class act. Stevie Y was all that plus a little bit more. Maybe it's personalitity of the two guys, but Stevie Y wouold always be the leader out of the two in my opinion. If I'm starting a franchise with anyone pick I can take, I'm taking Yzerman over Sakic. Incidently, Vancouver's Team 1040's Poll Question today: Who is the best defenceman in last decade? Nicklas Lidstrom 60% Scott Niedermayer 40% Most callers saying that while Nieds was great, it's not even close.

    Second chance

We got Draper for a dollar. Plucked Joey Kocur out of a beer league. And of course the whole Darren McCarty 2nd chance. Maybe even Bertuzzi could fall under that heading.

    Wings sign Ilari Filppula 1yr/$500k

Do you hope they play together because you've actually seen them together and you liked what you saw, or because you'd think it would be neat to see the brothers on the ice together and you're hopefull that they'd play well together? Serious question. There is something really cool about being on the ice with a family member. We iced a beer league line completely made up of my family once when my brother and his wife came to visit. My uncle paired Defensively with my wife, and I centerred a line with my brother and his wife. My sister in law is an awesome hockey player. I'll never forget her mucking in our own corner with two guys and then coming out with the puck and yelling at my brother "Go deep, Love! and she hit him with a tape to tape pass for a rush. It would be really cool if this IFilp move works out.

    Zenon Konopka

Good videos. I don't know much about him. I do have a serious question. If he were the type of guy the Wings could really use, why isn't he the type of guy Stevie Y wouldn't want to keep?
  9. It's difficult to disagree with you because you make such a valid point. However, there are two reasons why I'm going to have to disagree. Fanzen Zetterberg Bertuzzi seems like an incredible force to try to defend against. Look at the size, the talent, the hustle, the hands, the passing, the scoring. That should be quite a line. And Franzen on the same line as Holmer seems to make Holmer almost redudant. While I agree that you may get more of Franzen's ability by putting him with Datsyuk, I think you will get more out of the top six overall by having him with Z and Bert.
  10. A broken jaw caused him to miss 19 games two seasons ago. It's difficult to play the hard nosed style he does that made him successful while ou are recovering from a broken jaw, full face helmet or not. I'd call that a season with a significant (enough)injury.

Is it time to trade Cleary?

Is it time to trade Cleary?

Dan Cleary will continue to earn a place on the Red Wings roster until the day he retires.
  14. I Heart Line threads! What can I say, I really do. I could look at lines every day. I was Captain of a beer league team for a while and it's a blast putting lines together and watching them go. Especially when the team wins the league 3 out of the four seasons I was Captain! First of all, Dan Cleary has finish and when he remains healthy this season he will break thru the 20 goal level. He and Filpula are going to have a helluva year as he has a lot to prove to the naybobs after his last two seasons of playing injured. Go Dan Cleary, Go. 2ndly, Filp will step up his finish, because Babcock will demand it of him, and he certainly has the ability. He will score more goals this season. Then figure that Eaves, Abdelkrasher, and Rittola all have scoring ability that can be bumped up a notch. The each can be rotated depending on who's hot. With opponents having their hands full with the first two lines, this Wings 3rd line could really have a scoring impact. Lastly, injuires to the top two lines are inevitable so Filp could certainly see a certain amount of time up there anyway, and talk about great insurance. This gives the Wings a lot of depth considering we're in the age of the socialistic salary cap (the market is not determining what is spent, the governing body is). Cleary was the s*** for the Belleville Bulls, 115pts in 64 games, dayam: ...........................................GP G A Pts 1993–94 Kingston OJHL .......41 18 28 46 1994–95 Belleville Bulls OHL 62 26 55 81 1995–96 Belleville Bulls OHL 64 53 62 115 1996–97 Belleville Bulls OHL 64 32 48 80 Edit: And the fact that this line thread quotes Babcock talking about the lines is what seperates it from most line threads.

Is it time to trade Cleary?

Yeah, you're right. I was looking for my post and couldn't find it because it's not in this thread it's in the other one. The other thread isn't even off this page yet. I'll finish by sayinig, No, it's still not time to trade Dan Cleary. http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php/topic/65588-trade-cleary/

6 Wings coming into work tomorrow!

Remember, play it cool. Don't start babbling and tell them your LGW screen name. You'll eventually piss one of them off and they'll know where to find you.

    Kane and Byfuglien joke around

Not at all justifying Kanes alleged actions, but if what GS&T says is true, then that does put the cabbie in the same category as the POS stoned driver of Vladdy's Limo. I don't waste too much time feeling bad for those guys.

    Kane and Byfuglien joke around

Atleast Kane can take some of that playoff bonus money and get a new supply of mouthpieces.

How would you feel about Chelios as assistant?

Thats actually a good point. To take it a step further, the best defense is a good offense. In years past, the puck possession was so good that oppossing teams never had the puck, the Wings always had it. With all the injuries last year, puck possession was not nearly as effective as usual which in turn put more stress on the Wing's defense.
  20. I disagree. He had a stretch of 8 games where he was frikin on fire! He is an exceptional value at $1.5m. He demands constant attention from the opposition because he is always a threat, which creates a lot space for linemates. He has great hands, excellent passing sense and abilities, quick wits, quick shots, good moves. He can skate. He wears guys out. He's not a poorman's Holmstrom at all, he's a poorman's Canuck's Todd Bertuzzi, with more emphasis on being a low budget Joe Thornton. He was always an awesome net presence in Vancouver. He had a move that was borderline legal that he scored on so often that opposing teams sent video of to the league for review. I recall him backchecking like he wants to prove he belongs in Detroit. He 's busted his hump on the backcheck. Yes he thinks a little too much at times and forces a turnover...but like they say, if you are not making mistakes out there then you aren't trying to make enough plays. As far as 4rth lines go, here's a successful softie for ya: Robitaille centering Holmer and The Professor. About as much grit as a newborn babie's cheeks.

    Trade Cleary?

What I really want to know is who is responsible for first putting Cleary on the Wings radar? He is argueably the best current Wing not supplied by Håkan Andersson.

    Trade Cleary?

Hell no. Dan Cleary is exactly what you want in a hockey player. Clears is one of the most versatile guys we have. He is a Jack of All Trades. He can effectively bang and grind on the fourth line, bang grind and score on the 3rd line, create space, bang, score and back check on the 2nd and 1st lines. More versatilve than anyone else we have. I've seen too many games where the Wings came out flat except for Dan Cleary. Bertuzzi offered 2 year deal

I don't blame Bertuzzi for leaving so much as i do Brian Burke for being his medelling little self. (A man can't turn down that money and that term.) Bert could have had a satisfying and redeaming end to his career; a stable home with the Wings for his last five years, complete with a lap around The Igloo with The Stanley Cup. But Burke had to act as if he was showing some loyalty by throwing ridiculous $ at Bert that he knew would not ultimately stick, ultimately resulting in a one way ticket to the hinterlands of Calgary. Bertuzzi is definitely a bargain at this price, but you have to realize he cannot bang and wreck like he used to. You young guys have no idea what a bad back does to a man. Especially a big man like him. That guy has to summon courage and strength from the Gods just to get out of bed in the morning after a game. Obviously it has reached the point where it's almost unbearable or he would not have implied that it's not worth the pain to look for a new team and start over again, he'd rather just hang up the skates. The thought of putting himself through all that s*** just to make $1.5m for a year in Columbus then $1.2m in Toronto or something just isn't worth it. I really hope he gets to Hoist in The Winged Wheel.

    Ville Leino Appreciation Thread

You never know what motivates people. It's like when Feds went to Anaheim, they picked up the phone and called Detroit and said "What do you gotta do to get this guy to score?" Sometimes things work out better for a guy for unforeseen reasons, wometimes they work out worse. Good for Ville, good for Philly.
