Actually, they showed a stat before the OT coin flip last ight that said the coin flip winner has won 7 and lost 6 (since whenever...) so it was as even as can be. And when I was a kid I flipped a coin 500 times and it ended up 250 heads, 250 tails, I s*** you not. Try it. I only watch playoff football. Who wants to sit around for 3 hrs watching tv if its not the Red Wings.

Exactly. It's a great sport to play. Running the offense is not that unlike hockey. Except that hockey is so much faster that everybody nees to be in on every play at all times. Basketball can isolate a guy or two while the others catch a breather. The intensity of hockey is high and constant; almost that of motocross or Enduro racing. Basketball the intensity is not nearly as constant. Baseball is even slower. It's so slow it's like city work: you got one guy working while the rest of them stand around doing nothing. Incidently: I went on a 5 hr enduro ride with some friends Saturday and my heart rate monitor got up to 185 and I burned 3150 calories. No wonder we're always so hungry after riding.

I like the idea of Jack Johnson, but whats up with the -18? Holy cow!

I hear what you're saying. I think it Bertuzzi's case, he still has a lot to prove and is giving every effort to prove it. His legacy so far is that of a great power forward who had all the God given tools to make a lasting mark on this game and was well on his way when he made the ill fated decision regarding Steve Moore. His career, along with that of Naslund, Morrison, and Crawford (not to mention Moore, of course) have all gone drastically downhill. He really needs a strong finish to his career, one that includes a Stanley Cup, to help dilute the impact of that horrible moment on his legacy.

WHo from Chicago do you think we can get and for how much and why do you think they are better than Bertuzzi?

That wooshing sound was three pages of thread flying right over your head.

You disagree with the conclusion that when comparing goals scored, Sammy is kicking our ass? Well, ok. It's the shear fact that absolutely nobody would have predicted that after the half way point in the season, Sammy would be ahead of Hank and Pavs in goals scored. Thats all. Not that it matters, not that it means anything in particular, it's just one of those things that make you say "Huh". Ya gotta admit, its a suprising stat, thats all. And what makes Sammy different than those other 99 guys, is that he played with Hank and Pavs, was at a totally lower level than them, and got kicked around by the LGW fan base pretty badly. Thats why Sammy is singled out from all the other 99 etc. There was a relationship between them that does'nt exist with the rest of the 99 players. Now, in regards to goals scored, that relationship has been turned upside down, and its suprising to see. Simple as that, no more, no less. Haven't you ever competed in something and suddenly noticed a dude ahead of you that is never ahead of you, and he's a bit of a flake or something and not nearly as good as you, but all the sudden there he is, ahead of you. That sudden realization makes you stop and think "WTF?!!"

Please support your critque. Who are these better options you speak of and what makes them better options? I'm always open to a better option. Convince me.

I agree. 4 yrs might be pushing it at his age, being a big guy, and having back prob history. If we can get two more solid years out of him, possibly a 3rd. Isn't he from Sudbury which is only like three hours or so from Metro D. Still has family there etc, so its easy for Grandparents to visit often and all that. The older a guy gets, the more important that stuff becomes. I live 2500 miles from my parents and brother in Detroit, and they're not getting any younger. He likes Detroit because he's not playing in a hockey fishbowl like Vancouver where everyone watches you on and off the ice all the time. I've seen Lidstrom at my nephew's hockey game at Compuware in Detroit, and he was able to sit by himself and not get bothered too much. Not Bertuzzi in Vancouver. Vancouver is basically a one sport town; all hockey, all the time. He also likes not having the pressure of being The Man, letting Pavs, Hank, and Nick have that responsiblity. He also knows that he may not get picked up by anyone...or if he does, it could very well be a crappy unorganized club somewhere with no hope. In Detroit, there is always hope of hoisting The Stanley Cup. Good for him. Glad its working out. Now if some of those close one's start going in for him. Go Bert.

Let me guess; You're a 13 yr old girl and you thought your 15 yr old boyfriend looked pretty tough when he said it to you last night, and now you thought you'd try it out for yourself. Well, good luck with that. Thanks for reminding me why I rarely OP on LGW anymore.

"My point is that while an individual player's number of goals is important it is not always a full representation of the whole player." I agree with your point 100%. Its fine that you are taking this thread in that direction, just don't accuse me of stating the opposite, cause all I said was that as far as goals are concerned, Sammy is kicking our ass. At this point in time, that is a fact, it is irrefutable. And to me, it is an astonishing fact that tells how hard this season has been so far for us, and at the same time, I'm glad he is flourishing. Its one of those facts that makes you say "Holy f***, Logo Hunter!?! You gotta be kidding me!" "I don't get the point " If you don't get it, then you don't get it. And thats ok. Not everybody gets it. But I do think thats what Gangsta meant when he said you are missing the point, because you are. How people can be missing the point is beyond me, but I'm ok with it. With all due respect, let me break it down to its simplest form: Regarding GOALS only, according to the data in the OP, Sammy is kicking our ass.

You are correct, Detroit is not Vancouver. Vancouver is currently seeded 6th vs Detroit 9th, and Vancouver has a plus 36 vs Detroit's -2, and Vancouver has the current scoring leader while Detroit's scoring leader is, well...a couple pages back. Don't shoot the messenger. I said it was killing me.
-
No, actually, I don't. The OP is simply an observation of the facts at a given point in time. You may interpret them if you wish, but that was not the point of the thread. I tried to make that clear. Just because you can argue about the reality or explain the reality, doesn't mean you can change the reality. It is what it is. And the reality is, Sammy has more goals. Quote from OP: "Sammy, God love 'em, has more goals than any Red Wing so far. Reasons, smeasons, he just plain has more and as much as I like the guy and am glad he's successful, it's killing me that he's ahead of D & Z, etc. " Losers are always whining about doing their best; winners go home and f*** the Prom Queen (-Sean Connery to Nicholas Cage in "The Rock"). For years the rest of the league made excuses as the Red Wings continued to win. Now is not the time for excuses of our own, its time to show true grit and work harder and smarter. Whoever is on the ice in a Red Wing uni needs to achieve more than whoever is on the ice in the other teams uni. Edit: credit

True. And so far it earns us the 9th seed in the playoffs. Cigars for everyone!
-
Sammy has 5 MORE goals than Pavel Datsyuk and 4 MORE goals than Henrik Zetterberg and 13 MORE goals than Norris Nick and makes almost 70% less money than each of them. And LGW kicked him around like a peeing cat while he was here.

Ha! I agree. Or to watch him panic with the puck and not know what to do with it. Oh, yeah, and I don't even want to think about The Sedin Sisters, the actual Euro Twins. They're on fire, while are's aren't even luke. However, I do think it's good for the Wings to have to scratch and claw it's way into the playoffs by the grit of their teeth, for a change, with a real, honest to goodness chance that they may not make it.
-
Hmm, he looks a lot bigger off the ice.

Good post. Except that the regular season does matter very much to me. I don't live and die with every bad call or lose, but I want to see the team play hard. I'm excited about Chicago and the rivalry, listenning to Vancouver's Team 1040 2500 miles away from the American rink, saying that game on NBC last Saturday was what hockey is all about, that they were on the edge of their seats the entire game. IF Chicago beats Detroit in the playoffs, they DAMN well better win the Stanley Cup.

Bring back Fedorov in place of Meech and Lang instead of Leimo you really got something there!

I agree. And what's more, i really don't think Osgood is sitting there rattling off comments: Remember, there are reporter's in his face asking pointed questions and directing the conversation to hear answers to questions and issues that they think will make juicy stories. Possible Example: Reporter: "Chris, you haven't played for over 4wks and suddenly you are playiing against Ovechkin and Washington, do you think it's a coincidence that your first start is against the highest scoring team in the NHL?" Osgood: "That’s quite a coincidence. Or maybe not,'' Osgood said after the morning skate. "We’ll see how it works out.’’ Reporter: "After all this time off, are you ready to play again or will you be rusty?" Osgood: "You practice every day, You get ready every day, so let’s play.’’ Reporter: " Are you comfortable with this new system of Howard sitting for a longtime while you play a lot of games in a row, then you sitting for a long time while Howard plays a lot of games in a row, or do yu prefer the way it was in the past years rotating in and out more frequently" Osgood: "“At the start of the year Howie didn’t play for about a month and then I didn’t play for a month. To me that’s not a good way of doing things, to let one guy get stagnant,'' Osgood said. "You have to have both guys going, especially with the amount of games we have, especially coming back after the Olympic break we have a ton of games in March. So we have to have two guys in case something happens." You gotta take sports media with a huge grain of salt since most comments (other than from Sean Avery) are question driven. I wouldn't make too much about it. I thought the reason for starting Ozzie would be obvious: We always hear how he must get bored playing aginst Minnesota, Phoenix, etc after playing in the big games so often. Well, here comes Ovechkin and the Caps so tighten your jockstrap and get up for this game, Ozzie.
