Why play The Good Old Hockey Game at the end of the game?

Hey, I love the song to! But I like that mexican song "Tequila", but that doesn't mean I want to hear it at the end of a Wings victory. I agree, its a buzzkill. They need something that makes people want to stick around and "rah" for a while. good ole hockey Game should be played while the Zamboni is out between periods, along with "Shinny on the Ice". -

As I live 20 minutes south of the Canadian border, I watch the gmaes on CBC. Game 5 was my first NBC game. Had to chuckle at the little non fan helper when the onscreen score board said "Detroit Power Play", and then had a momentary drop down underneath "Pittsburgh" that read "penalty". -

But thats the NHL way. They even cut their names short and then add a y, or an er depending. I went to Matt Butcher's Chiliwack Chiefs game a few years back and was sitting with his dad Garth (alumni of Vancouver Canucks, Blues, Leafs, and Nordiques I think) and I said "wow, the Chiefs got a big Dman named Blackmon from Texas of all places?" He says, "oh yeah, Blacky,,, he's a good kid". Thats Canadian and its hockey. -

Thank you good Sir. It was no big deal. Actually, it was so stereotypical of hockey that it was funny. Its exactly the reason the don't announce injuries. Big Rig's been getting poked in the stomache all the time now. Thats hockey. When these guys retire, these are the things they're gonna look back on tell stories about over a couple of wobbly pops, they'll be laughing their asses off about the good old times. Luved Maltby skating by the Pitt bench and washing Crosby's face while he was sitting there or whatever it was, that was funny as hell.

Hey, I'm from Clarkston. I miss the Village Place breakfasts. Doesn't Ken Daniels' son go to Clarkston Middle School?

Where'd this whole "tool" thing come from? I know its been around for years but from where? I love my tools. I got tons of 'em. Use them all time. Tools are great. Tools are useful. You need tools to survive. I don't get it. What tool started using the word tool in a deragatory fashion? What a ******* tool he must have been. Sheesh.

Somewhere there's a video of Pavs jumping to avoid a hit vs Chicago and he ends up taking a good hit to the hip against the boards. Someone said this was the cause of a hipflexior injury, not a foot issue. Ray Ferraro said he saw Pavs skating and it was obvious that he couldn't play like that. I suppose Draper's a ***** too, then right? Hey, isn't that a big bowl of STFU with your name on it?

I agree. Bettman is very smart and very eloquent, too eloquent for most hockey fans to the point of them being uncomfortable with it. The only times he interrupted McLean was when he a) didn't understand what McLean was saying and wanted clarification before he continued, or b) when he had to correct McLeans numbers and make sure he knew that was not accurate. The Team 1040 Vancouver had a caller that is an "off ice" official in Phoenix and he explained a completely different side of the Pheonix situation. The side of the Phoenix story that you neverhear is that things were actually looking bright until Gretzky and his group bought into the team and took the franchise into a total different direction. Among other things, they moved the team from downtown to a place out in the boonies and according to this guy, that was a very bad move, and no one wanted to go way the f*** out there to whach hockey. They changed the logos and jerseys, they quit all the community outreach programs they were doing , all sorts of bad moves and things have been going down hill ever since. The team doesn't do anything in the community anymore compared to what they used to do. And yes, its a franchise, the owner does not have soveriegnty over a franchise. If you are going to grown the league, of course the demographics of Phoenix look great. Who lives there? Everyone from Chicago, Detroit, Philly, Boston, Minnesota, British Columbia. You would think there is potential for these people to latch onto a new team, and go see there hometown team when they come visit. (which is why there will be a team in Vegas). And the city is suppossed to keep growing and growing faster than most other cities. People got to get past the geeky persona of the guy. He shakes cause he's got some sort of nerve condition going on, just like my boss does, BFG! He's not nearly as bad as everyone likes to portray him to be. There was absolutely nothing wrong with his interview.

I guess I wouldn't be suprisd either way. but when he does finally retire, they should bring him in a "Face Off Coach". And personally, in his situation, it would be hard to retire when you know you can still give a great last contract year and possibly a 6th Cup, or just go out on top after 2 in a row (assuming of course).

The NHL never seems to be consistant in its officiating. They have decided to let the boys play because they did not want Detroit to win the Cup because of their lethal power play. They wanted it done thru 5 on 5 play. But thats not working for them either, so...I guess we'll see what happens now. Go Wings.

Ha! Perfect. Can you see Lidstrom saying that Leino? Or would Hossa be the one most likely to say something like that? The great thing is, I don't see any single Red Wing playing with that "I'll give it my best" attitude like Nick Cage's character. They are all playing with the Rock the Prom Queen attitude and thats still the difference between Detroit and Piitsburgh this year. Well, one of the main differences anyway. Thats the attitude that got them thru Anaheim.

The casual fan always make too much of hitting the post. Hitting the post does not even count as a shot on goal because it is a missed shot. Yes it was very lucky for the Wings that Stuart put that goal in on Ozzie, otherwords Ozzie would have had, God forbid, a shutout. And it was indeed a lucky bounce as Stuart was not actually trying to score on Ozzie, it was just good luck. Yes things have been competitive. Not like last years onslaught. How could the Pens be up 2-0 when they didn't even get one by Ozzie in Game 2? And you want to talk about ifs, if it weren't for the WIngs lucky shot by Stuart and one lucky juicy rebound by Ozzie that went right to Fedetenko who luckily was in the right spot at the right time, the Pens would be scoreless in the first two just like last year. The Wings top guys have been able to shutdown the Pens top guys and the WIngs depth players, or more accurately, the minor league guys with little or no NHL experience, have out played Pittsburghs verteran 3rd and 4rth liners. Simple as that. Stuarts shot off the boards went in because Flurry made a mistake. HNIC showed the Pens practicing shooting off the boards with Flurry in goal prior to game 1, so that they would know how to use it to their advantage and so Flurry would get used to the bounces. Hossa was on the doorstep for the rebound anyway. Flurry aslo made a mistake when he lifted his leg to block the shot and it bounced off it and went in instead. Why would you want to block a shot from that angle that way? Mistake. I guess when the Wings don't get a goal waved off for one entire game, people think we are lucky and getting all the breaks. Loosers always whine about doing their best but not getting the breaks, winners go home with the Stanley Cup.

You make some good points there, d1. Not enough is made of our injury riddled team, our depleted lineup. How many GRiffens were in the lineup?
-
I agree with this disagreement. We had good times in the Igloo. We came into your Igloo and treated your fans to a Stanley Cup raisning party and the Penguins couldn't do anything about it. Face it: you guys have played your hearts out and played two half way decent games...and we won both of them.

Here's my "loigical" theory: There aren't going to be many penaltys called in the finals because the NHL doesn't want the scales of victory to be tipped by Detroits lethal Power Play. So the Wings top guys are cancelling out the Penns top guys, and that leaves the Wings depth players (aka, the AHL Griffens) to beat the Penns depth players.
-
Except that it wasn't a hook. Hossa lifted the stick as Dupuis tryed to play the puck. Dupuis kept pushing down as Hossa held it up. They were stuck like that for a fraction of a second, then they broke apart and I couldn't figure out how the stick broke until this post (Thank you very much, good sir). You can lift and hold the stick up, and thats what Hossa did, without hooking the end of it around anything. It was a clear case of excellent defense by a man possessed versus average regular season play resulting in frustration and equipment failure by a man whimpering. Man possessed beats man whimpering everytime. edit: PennsFan really needs to quit whining about non calls and weird bounces; Pittsburgh didn't even get a single shot by Osgood in Game 2. Brad Stuart inadvertantly dragged the puck by Ozzie. How did Pitt get to the Finals? By Malkin and Crosby scoring a load of goals. Why is Pitt not going to win the Cup? Because The Wings are not allowing Malkin and Crosby to score a load of goals. Simple as that.

OMG, does he ever get hammered out there. He plain gets his ass beat, a mugging. And the refs pay him no respect. They figure if he's gonna put himself there, he's gonna pay the price. He's really developed some nice "low post" moves down there, too, to get postion I mean. Edit: ANd his role really doesn't fit what we need out of a 4rth liner anyway.

The incredible thing about the injuries is the way the Griff Kids have responded. Holy frikin cow! Ericcson has stepped in like a poised vet. The Nightmare (on Helm Street) has done an unbelievable job. That Penalty Kill is a shift for all time. Leino gets a point, Abdelkader scores a goal. Once again, hats off to the Griff Kids. They understand the responisibility of playing for the Cup Final because Dats and Drapes and Lils are all out. And WoW have they responded. Go Wings!
-
Do you mean Drapes? Or does Lids playing with a lingering groin issue, too?
-
The "talk" has already begun. Ray Ferraro (TSN, Team 1040 Vancouver, etc) has said before the Finals even started that if he had to vote toady it would be Chris Osgood.

Who was the last team to win back to back Stanley Cups?
