    Got Attacked at Game 3

I feal bad for OP and hope its no life long injury. I don't think anyone on here is "justifying" what the thugs did. I think they are saying that there are bad people out there, and an adult should know this. Personally, my first duty is to protect the people I'm with and not put them in jeopardy. If I see some guys yelling crap at people as they walk by, its obvious to me they are looking for a fight. If the occupants of my car and I are also looking to fight for a good cause, then I would say something and see if the thugs take the bait. If I am not looking to fight, hit the powerlocks and roll on by. Its unfortunate, but its life.

Haha, you mean the ref "intended" to blow the whistle because he lost sight of the post, but couldn't get it out in time until after the post was already posted.

Kyle Quincey on FB & HW.

It does crack me up, all the questioning of Holland. The guy gets paid a lot of money to assume responsiblity for the premier sports franchise in all of professional sports (huge responsibility), is up at 4:30am every morning on the phone by 6:00, wheeling and dealing, meetings with scouts, GMs, and agents all over the world, watching all the players, in discussion with Devellano, Nill, Yzerman, Lidstrom, etc, has the ear of a an extrememly successful and savy business family (The Illitch's), and we think we know better what he should have done in any given deal. There's more hockey knowledge in one of Kenny Holland's pizza farts than any of us could ever dream of possessing.

    No Suspension for Brown

I don't agree with the conspiracy theories but I sure do like your avatar! From a business standpoint, why would the league promote the Red Wings? The Red Wing Market is already world wide. They have a huge fan base and sell more mechandise than and fill more seats when visiting other arenas than nearly everyone else. Put the money into promoting other teams. Remember, it is a business.

    Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

I never said I understood exactly what was going on when the incident occured. I responded to Norrisnick and some old lady telling me I needed to repsond to something he wrote about watching your pass to know where it goes, and thats why Huds got leveled. My response was that the standard procedure is to pass, then take inventory, then check the status of the puck. I guess I'm not sure what you are referring to when you tell me to "Get real". But thanks for the civil discorse, like most the rest of the people on this forum lately.

    Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

Mom, out of all the people that don't think its a dirty hit, why do you single me out and make a personal attack on me? Why do you and MS Hockey single me out? All of what Norrisnick said was already covered in my previous posts and it should be obvious that I don't agree with any of it. There's no sense in me posting all over again just because someone comes along behind me and says something different. But thats fine, he can see it the way he's sees it and I don't think that makes him any less than me. The only sentence in his post that I haven't already addressed is the "needs to see where the puck goes" statement, and I'll do that right now. 1. He already has a damn good idea of where the puck is going; he's the one who passed it. 2. Its NHL playoff hockey, which means he knows at any given moment someone is trying to rip his head off, legal or illegal, so his first priority is indeed survival. Pass, swivel the old mellon and take a quick on ice inventory, then check the status of the puck. Thats what makes playoff hockey so incredibley intense, so NOT like any other sport in the world: The combination of skill, speed, and violence. Trying to make plays with people flying at you trying to take your head off. Basketball is a contact sport; hockey is a collision sport. I also disagree with the guy using all caps to tell everyone that being cut by the visor is physically impossible. I've seen it more than a few times in my own games, and on tv. But I'm not gonna get mad and call the guy an idiot for thinking that. Picture of blood on Browns elbow. As the other guys picture shows, Brown hits him with his shoulder/chest area and of his elbow is tucked low into his own body. The 2 signficant points there are 1. Shows Brown was not head hunting, which I thought was easy to see originally. 2. Sure he hit Juris head at the point of blood on the jersey, but I really don't see a way around that given the awkward position Hudler put himself in. He hits Hudlers head with his elbow tucked into his adomen under his chest/shoulder area, then follows thru by extending his arms. Then he may have caught Hudler with the stick, or the visor may have cut him, ehatever, I don't think its that big of a deal at that point. The salient point here is, Browns elbow was NOT extended at the point of contact. Therefore, he was NOT headhunting. If I came off the ice after doing exactly what hudler did and got hit like he did, my coach, my dad, my teamates, and my wife would all look at me and say,"What the f*** ya doing, trying to get killed?" Look, I realize that people see things differently. The smartest people in the world can't agree on things, world leaders can't agree on things, experienced high paid announcers in the same booth watching the same thing can't agree, I don't expect everyone to agree with me. Thats fine.

Thanks for posting the video. I didn't realize he controlled Perry as much as he did. That kid is gonna be great.

Randy Carlyle's view of the hit

Even though I still play hockey, I'm not quite sure why Franzen mowing over Hiller wasn't called. Nobody was even near him to push him into Hiller. I mean, its not like football, where if you actually do block the punt then its ok to hit the punter, right? I don't care, and i don't have a problem with mowing over the goalie after you score, just curious.

    Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

Oh great, now I got some little girl whose parents bought her a computer for her own bedroom and has never hit anybody in a contact sport in her life, playing Kelly Hrudey on the telestrator. Notice the elbow in tight, Hudlers mellon is chest high on Brown. He didnt' go after him with the elbow or stick, he hit him with the shoulder, followed thru (Brown's legs have straightend so you know he has already exploded into his hit and is now beginning the follow thur).

    Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

The lack of objectivity, the overwhelming Homersim, and the lame observation skills is symptomatic of a declining nation. North Amercia doesn't stand a chance. Good night, kids. Here's to a 1-0 series lead against the Ducks.

    Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

Brown hit with the sholder, then followed thru with the bows. Hudlers head was less maybe 48" off the ice. Whats more, Hudler was totally leading with his head, hence the "vulnerable" position he put himself into. Brown cannot be expectd to accomodate for Hudlers goofy body position. There is absolutely no way he could have avoided Hudlers mellon. If for some unexplainable reason Brown happend to be skating backewards so that it was totla incidental contact, Hudler still would have crashed and burned and had blood on the ice from his visor cutting his face from the body to body impact.

    Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

I agree. And thats what he did. The shoulder hit Huds face and the stick and glove followed thru like you do on any good hit. Like you said, you always hit thru the guy. He didn't hit him with the butt end of the stick.

Exactly, I agree with your sarcasm. I think San Jose agrees with you too.

    Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

OK, more of you guys with the name calling, but I haven't heard one explanation of what Brown should have done. Hudler blindy floats into his path while admiring his own pass instead of paying attention to where he is going. Should Brown have openned his arms softly and caught Juri and whispered "Careful"? Should Brown have attempted evasive action, and risk a knee on knee at most, and at the least put himself out of position to make a play on the puck and letting Hudler get by him for a rush? Let up on the hit, thereby absorbing more of it, just because Huds wasn't paying attention? What should Brown have done?

    Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

I luv Huds, but he carelessly put himself in an extremely vulnerable position and paid the price. Not only was he NOT looking where he was going, but he was floating thru like he was on a date or something, and HE went into Brown's path. And like Kevotron said, he got stitched back together and went in for more hockey. Where I come from, thats 1 "Aw, s***", and 1 "Atta boy". It wasn't late. It was just too bad for Juri, thats all. He'll be fine. Like Kevotron said, thats toughness. I couldn't believe Cleary said it was a dirty hit on the TV interview. He should have said," Hey, thats Stanley Cup Playoff Hockey."

    CBC

I agree but not for those reasons. I didn't think the hit on Huds was that big of a deal. Don't get me wrong, it was sensational, but I didn't think it was suspension worthy. And exactly why didn't Franzen get a penalty for mowing down Hiller? I don't care that he didn't, but objectively speaking, why didn't he? The thing that bugged me was them saying that Franzen hooked his skate on Hiller's pad for the last goal. Even if it was a problem, it was obvious in the replays that Pronger was trying to push Franzen around by pushing his knee under Franzen's thigh, which caused Franzens skate to make contact with Hiller's pad. McCLean saying that Franzen was doing it on purpose. Sheesh. Thye did seem a little anti Detroit tonite.

    Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

Goofball? You're gonna call me names because I don't get all upset about a little blood like you do? So what if there's blood, its hockey. WTF? Hudler looks back and drops a pass then blindly archs right into Brown's lane with his frikin head sticking out at Brown's chest level. Whats Brown supposed to do, get out of Hudler's way so they don't collide? No, he is suppossed to tighten up and explode with a hit. And thats what he did. Sure, the result was worse than Steve Moore's hit on Naslund, but thats not saying much, and thats hockey. The blood wasn't from the visor when he hit the ice, it was from the visor when Brownie leveled him. Thats an inherent problem with a visor. If you don't want your head hit, then wind your neck in. Sure as hell don't stick it out there at head level and figure skate into oncoming traffic. Oh no, there's blood! Oh no, a Red Wing was on the nasty end of a wicked hit, oh no! Have you people no objectivity? You guys are embarrassing. God I hope the Ducks fans don't see those posts.

    Mike Brown's hit on Hudler

That was a nasty hit, but I'm not sure it was a penalty hit...Maybe a 2 minute... but not a 5...or a game...or a suspension. What did Mickey Redmond say about? I luv Huds, but WTF was he doing watching his pass as he skates into center ice?

    Burke warning Detroit fans

Brian Burke. Wasn't he an attorney at one time? No s*** they have two hall of fame defensemen. They're a great team. This is going to be a hard fought series, thats not news to anybody. These are the last two Stanley Cup champs playing each other. Anaheim is big and nasty and they just knocked out the President's Trophy winners. Detroit is ultra skilled, mentally strong and disciplined, and plays the best puck possession hockey in the league. Its gonna be one hell of a series. I am taking "early release Friday" here on the west coast and parking my arse infront of the Hockey Night In Canada with a pizza and some beer, turning off all the phones, and gonna watch some great Stanley Cup Playoff Hockey. Go Wings!
