The love and hate of Sidney Crosby

CHA-CHING! Rack'em. Post of The Day! Stevie Y motivated the unmotivatable, inspired the uninspirable. He made the great ones even greater. Hall of Fame hockey players were moved and inspired by a man named Steve Yzerman to dig to the depths of their hearts and give more than they ever knew they had. He lead great men to find depths inside themselves they never knew existed. If ever there was a rogue it was Dominik Hasek. For him to say the things about Yzerman that he did says a lot: "He is our leader..I mean we saw him on the ice every shift (injured)..he is probably the biggest reason we came back against Vancouver" (Opening series 2002 Stanley CUp Playoffs). Luke Robitaille on Stevie Y: "For us, for me so far, I mean, he is our MVP...he is the one that made the biggest difference for our team." Kirk Maltby: "When you see him getting up off the ice your whincing in pain with him, but when you see your Captain sacrificing his body to block shots, taking hits, then on top of it he"s scoring goals and creating goals, as a player and a teammate you can't help but go out there and just go out there and try and do everything you possibly can as well." Sergei Fedorov: "To see how much pain he's going thru, and not be able to skate the way he used to and the way you want to, but still kept going, I know it I think...those kind of thoughts keot me even more wanting to do well and win and play probably the hardest I ever did".

Top 10 Athletes after 40 years old

Nascar drivers lose 10-15 pounds per race. Hockey players lose 5-8 pounds per game. I think some of you are confusing "sitting on your couch and watching Nascar" with actually driving a 4000 lb race car at 200 miles per hour for four hours. Or you have a very narrow, unenlightenned view of athleticism.

    Detroit's Hot New Prospect!

You forgot to mention his .222 shot percentage! HE's a bright young prospect alright. HE sure isn't getting any more handsome, though, thats for sure. Glad he's back, most people don't get a second chance like that. He sure has made the most of it. Hindsight: Better to have partied the $ away with friends and (temporary)loved ones than to have lost it all in the stock market!

    Bill Davidson Dies @85

Thanks for the post Ryan. LGW is a main way of keeping in touch with Michigan for me, I wouldn't have heard about this if you had not posted it. He was an awesome guy, but even that doesn't come close to scratching the surface of what a man he was. Makes me take a long look at who I am, what kind a of a man I am. Just take a look at this: March 13, WXYZ: Bill Davidson, Managing Partner of the Detroit Pistons and 2008 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, has passed away at the age 85. Davidson became the second owner in Pistons history in1974, when he purchased the franchise from the late Fred Zollner. Davidson also has ownership stake in Palace Sports and Entertainment, the Detroit Shock, DTE Energy Music Center, Meadow Brook Music Festival and Guardian Industries, Incorporated, one of the world's primary manufacturers of architectural and automotive glass. During his tenure as owner, Davidson's professional teams have won seven world championships, three in the NBA, three in the WNBA and one in the National Hockey League. Palace Sports and Entertainment owned the Tampa Bay Lightning when that franchise won the Stanley Cup in 2004. The Palace will never be the same without Mr. D sitting courtside cheering on his team, a team he loved. Some of his Philanthropic activities are listed at Wikipedia. A noted philanthropist, Davidson has given extensively to various organizations. The William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan was created at Davidson's alma mater, the Ross School of Business, following a gift of $30 million. Davidson's cumulative gifts to the school exceed $55 million. In addition, Davidson funds the William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York. The excavations on the southern wall of the temple mount in Jerusalem have been named the Davidson excavations in tribute to his generous donations to the project. He is also a contributor to the Wexner Foundation which gives grants to post-undergrad students of Jewish Studies. In March 2007 Davidson donated $75 million dollars to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. Our prayers go out to Bill Davidson's wife, Karen, their two children Ethan and Marla, three stepdaughters, the Piston family and all those that were touched by the man who had a great impact on Detroit and the State of Michigan.

    More russians to red wings?

Only if its a mail order bride salary dump. Otherwise, no Russian in their right mind would make that trade. There's no cheap vodka cheap enough! I like how you think, though.

    Trade Franzen

You actually took the time to do that?
  14. T.Low

    Trade Franzen

Welcome to LGW. f*** all those guys with their stupid replies. Too many 14 yr olds with internet access on their IPods screwing off in the classroom. It's definitely a legitimate concern you have, (maybe falsely) exacerbated by the fact that Mule has not been racking up the points per usual. While there are on going hopeful negotiations and talk by both Franzen's camp and Holland, common math says we can't have both Hossa and Franzen. So if we can't have both, should we trade the one that has been scoring much less? Thats a tuff call that I am perfectly happy not to have to make. But its definitely a legtimate question and while I'm not so sure I agree with your opinion, it's one of only a few options availbe to the Red Wings. I, for one, would hate to lose Franzen. Are teams on to him? No I don't necessarily think so. Is he getting pushed around in front of the net? Yes, he's getting his ass kicked, but only because he is man enough to go there. LikeI said, tuff call. I hope we can keep Hossa and Franzen, somehow. Worthy post, thanks, and welcome to LGW.

Hossa injured vs. Blues, carried out on stretcher

A really good skater in my league will be in a wheel chair for the rest of his life, barely able to feed himslef, after a crash into the boards like that. Crashes like that and Stuarts will always scare the BeJesus out of me. Thank God it looks good at this point.

    Cleary's hit on Joe Thornton

Soultrain's post made my think of this hit from last niight and the response it got from the Sharks color commentator (the bald guy, whatever his name is). As soon as i saw it I thought Joe was playing pretty koy about it and his strategy backfired on him. He looked over his shoulder to see how much time he had and from where the hit was gonna come from (standard procedure) and then you know he sees Cleary in his perifery, and chooses to turn his back as Cleary is already committed to the hit because it would have been from the side. 1) Please correct me if I'm wrong about that scenario. 2) The frikin Sharks color guy wouldn't let it go. He kept on about it being a nasty, illegal hit, and couldn't believe that Cleary only got 2 minutes for it. Correct me if i'm wrong, but most announcers would say that Joe Thornton should know better than to turn and take a hit like that, what was he thinking? Yes, i appreciate hometown announcers being fans of the home team, but not to a ridiculous degree like that. I think if a Red WIng had done the same thing Thornton did, Mickey would be riding him that you cannot do that in the National Hockey League and expect not to get hit. If it would have been a young player, Mickey would say hopefull he learned his lesson. If it were a veteran, I think he would say it was a major lapse in judgement, and that's why the team is getting dominated tonite. Like I said, please correct me if i'm wrong; if I'm seeing hockey thru Red Wing colored glasses Edit: Want to make it clear that it looks to me like Thornton turned his back on Cleary almost taunting him as if to say "You'd better not hit me from behind!". And, in the time it took Thornton to turn his back, he could have just taken half a stride to get out of Cleary's path altogether.

    Another reason why this organization...

Jesus Christ, God bless the Illitch Family! I got misty eyed just reading that f***in article, holy s***. Can you imagine how that old man must feel, sitting in his barkalounger up der in T'under Bay, having his old man buddies come over and look at the Stanley Cup Ring and marvel. Thats more rare, more valuable than winning the lottory! His buddies are thinking he's the s***, now! Just for a moment, people have someone else to talk up other than the Stahl family. He's the talk of the town. Rah. Thanks a ton for posting the article, thats why I log on to LGW from 2500 miles away from The Joe. Luv you guys! Beers all around!

    Cleary's hit on Joe Thornton

I agree with the first part, it was great, and I disagree with the second part.
