Series Thread: Edmonton Oilers Vs Florida Panthers

The Oilers look like they're deep-fried. Sweep upcoming, or will Florida win it at home in 5?

THIS IS A GAME DAY THREAD WINGS VS SABERS TONIGHT 12-5-2023-8:30 AST

Glad to see the boys grit out a victory, sad that they allowed Buffalo to make it as close as it was. +2 for the year!

National broadcasts are rough to watch.

    Steve Y conversation

I was pretty excited to give this a watch after having seen it teased on FB, YT, etc. That being said, it felt like an entire interview of fluff. Standard answers to softball questions, nothing substantive of note. If you've got 20-30 minutes to kill? Go for it! Seems like a bit of wheel-spin for the doldrums of the off season to me, otherwise. When's puck drop??

    3/17 - How Many Goals? GDT - Wings @ Nucks - 10 PM

Would love to see the good guys with a touchdown's worth of goals and not have the opposition manage to score the extra point. Even better would be a lopsided win like 9-2 or something like that. However, I'm a realist so I'll just hope for a tie or better. Bold (read "dumb") prediction? Wings win 5-3.

GDT - Yzermans Ex @ Stevies current trainwreck - 5:00 PM ET

"May I see it?" Asking for central Europe. "... No." - Time zones. Got to catch the highlights and I have to say - I could get used to the goal scoring duo of Bertz and Fab! How "this season" would it be for the team to catch fire in the last month and win themselves out of last place? #embracethetank?

Report: Detroit to name Steve Yzerman as GM

Happy to see the new GM officially on board! However, I am wondering how much of an open secret this was around the league. Watch the last 30 seconds of this video from April 3rd and it's clear the guy talking to Pang knows what's what. Any possibility of trouble there? While I was watching th presser 2 reporters asked about the timing of events leading up to today the people in the FB stream indicated it had already been addressed previously.

    Blackhawks Fire Coach Quenneville

Stealth TANK! All shots this season will be off-target, by design. I say trust the process with Blash and continue to #Slack&Lose4JackHughes, reassess the coaching situation at the end of the season.

    1/22 GDT - Red Wings @ Devils - 7:00 PM EST

I was JUST thinking that Larkin needed a goal to atone for the 2 consecutive penalties!

    1/22 GDT - Red Wings @ Devils - 7:00 PM EST

It wasn't a full Kronwalling, not like the days of old, although I'm not sure that even one of those monsters could rile up the fans in attendance tonight.

Thoughts on the Kronwall hit? Kenny D made it sound like the guy was hurt..?

Atta boy, Bert! So can we unload Justine and Helm at the deadline too? /s

    1/14 GDT - Red Wings @ Blackhawks - 12:30 PM EST (NBC)

Beautiful setup by Zetterberg, Mantha absolutely buried that shot! Anybody else see Frk attempt a slap-pass on that last rush? That'd be a nice weapon for him to add to his arsenal, for sure. Funny to see Larkin pushing one of his linemates (Edit: it was Witkowski) on the butt with the blade of his stick for a neutral zone speed boost!

    Pre-Season Games

What do people think about #27 now that you've had the full pre-season to get a taste of the 1st rounder? What happens with Parenteau and and what about A.A.?

Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

It's hard, nay, damn near impossible to replace St. Nick - anyone who's watched half a dozen Wings' games should be able to attest to that fact. However, that in and of itself shouldn't make someone disappointed with the signing. Do you think Franson would provide a better back end presence to the team? Frankly I'm intrigued to see what Green can do on the blueline with DeKeyser, or on the power play with Kronwall. The Lidstroms and Niedermayers of the hockey world are few and far between, but this was a Norris-trophy caliber D-Man only a few seasons ago. At the stage of his career, with the arsenal of weapons bristling out of this team, is there any reasonable doubt whether he could get to 50-52 points on the year, landing him in the top 10 of last season's D-men? The purely defensive edge of things is harder to quantify, to be sure, but the Wings have been missing a powerplay QB and diversified outlet passing for the past few seasons.

Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

I don't mean to be beating a dead horse here, nor do I specifically mean to be calling out you, Frankgrimes, but surely I cannot be the only one who remember's McCarty tweeting something overtly and openly positive when Cory Emmerton took over #25 in 2012. My Google-Fu is lacking at the moment, but I distinctly recall D-Mac tweeting out something like "Best player to carry on the tradition of #25" when it was made official. @D-Mac25, which as far as I can tell was McCarty's twitter handle (evidence here) has since been suspended for reasons unknown, but the fact remains it didn't appear he was at all against someone else taking on his number - why should we as fans hold a grudge if he didn't/doesn't? And that being said, do we honestly expect guys to cow-tow to the fans' enthusiasm for each and every player who has worn a jersey number? I think the precedent has been well established with a newcomer joining a team having to "buy" a number off of a guy who preceded him on the roster - but the crucial thing being if it is an active roster player! If Green is supposed to check with each of the (living) 31+ players to have sported the #25 for the Wings before stepping on the ice, I think we're going to run into issues. As long as it's not retired, or some well-known EXCEPTIONAL case like Aurie or Vladdy, any number that Paul Boyer freely assigns should be good with us. Perhaps a bit more back on track, I remember a few years back when Green was a Norris contender thanks to all the points he put up in Washington - and the outrage that this garnered from the Red Wings / Nick Lidstrom faithful saying how he wasn't a true "defensive defenseman." With that in mind: would you rather have the point production out of him that the team seems to have been lacking in recent years, or a shut-down D-Man to limit the opponent's goals against?

Anyone know the Red Wings all-time record at JLA?

Looks like the team's 784-383-119-77 (W-L-T-OL) all time at the Joe. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Source: http://www.hockey-reference.com/arenas/joe-louis-arena.html

    3/29 GDT : Red Wings 4 at Islanders 5

Watching a stream with the Islanders' commentators - the homerism really shines through, sadly. Who else is concerned we've registered 0 SOG in the 4rd?
