That's just the Red Wings stink.
-
I had to turn this abomination off after the second period, I just couldn't put myself through another period. To keep my sanity I'll just pretend this game didn't happen.

The one thing I'll say is every player is different. But in Franzen's case he has had concussion problems in the past, plus the hit that gave him his last concussion wasn't a hard one which makes it reasonable to assume he may not have been fully healthy. I'll concede that the training staff knows more about concussions then me if you concede that they made a mistake clearing Franzen to play. Players shouldn't be interrogated, but the team held Datsyuk out longer with his concussion but Franzen was allowed to play after three days? He missed 16 games but after just three days they let him back in? Yeah every case is different but when dealing with a player with concussion problems the team should air on the side of caution.
-
A knee and a concussion are completely different injuries. You have to be extra cautious with concussions, and I'd like to reiterate what I said earlier that players lie. Its up to the coaching staff to be cautious and 3 days is not being cautious in my opinion.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?
wings87 replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I can't see us making any moves. No cap space and Holland hasn't made a worthwhile trade at the deadline in years. -
Not calling the Wings staff incompetent just the the way they handled the Franzen situation. And after reading Hollands comments about Franzen today, its really hard not to call what the training staff did as medical malpractice. He’s been in constant communication with (the specialist),” Holland said. “He’s got to have a lot of days of being healthy before he plays.” I don't get it, now Franzen needs to have lot's of healthy days before returning and what before it wasn't important? Ridiculous.
-
Well apparently it mattered a lot. Players are notorious liars, they want to play all the time. Its up to the medical staff to make sure that the player is healthy enough to play and with Franzen they dropped the ball. At what point do we start holding these guys responsible? Weiss kept playing hurt until he finally had to have surgery, Gus keeps getting hurt every other week I could go on and on. There are some on this site that have were calling for Babs and Holland to be fired. While I'm not calling for their heads but when is the training staff going to take some responsibility, not all the injuries have happened because of bad luck.

Excerpt: "What we're going to do is talk about it and the best guys are going to play," Babcock said after Sunday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers at Joe Louis Arena. "It's not going to have anything to do with age, it's just going to be what have you done here lately. They're pushing real hard. Riley Sheahan, (Tomas Tatar), Jurco, that line was really good" against Florida. So here's my question: Do we believe him? Will he actually sit Cleary and Bert, in favor of younger players? A part of me wants to believe him, but the other part doesn't trust the comments, especially looking at his track record of late? You are really taking a cliff dive into a wild conclusion. It is way to early to make such bold statements.

He was only symptom free for 3 ******* days, what dumbass decided that it was a good idea to let him play. Hasn't the medical staff learned by now that you don't f*** around with concussions. I'm baffled by the incompetence.
-
I'm going to repeat what I wrote in a previous post. How the f*** was Franzen allowed to play after only being symptom free for three days. Adding in all the other injuries the medical staff has a lot of explaining to do!
-
Maybe it wasn't the smartest move sending Franzen out there after only being symptom free for 3 ******* days.

If we don't have a lapse in concentration like last game, we should be fine. 4-2

I'm sure that Babs wants to win, but what does Holland want? While I definitely believe Kenny wants to win I'm just not sure he'll do what it takes. Which will include trading or waiving some of his veterans. And if he's not willing to move the veterans I would even go as far as to say Kenny should be willing to move some kids and picks for a top pairing D and or a top six forward.
-
The only point I agree with you is that he is waiting to be 100%, whether its for the Olympics or for us doesn't matter. I would rather him wait to get 100% then play a week and get hurt again.
-
That's one way of doing it but a problem might arise when Datsyuk and Z return. Along with Dats and Z we are going to have Helm,Andersson, Sheahan, and Glendening. If we send Jurco down and put Glendening on the wing, the choice will still be between Andersson and Sheahan. And once Weiss gets back the problem only intensifys. Ultimately I think both Sheahan and Glendening end up back in Grand Rapids along with Jurco and maybe even Eaves, but we are a long way from healthy to even make any of these decisions. I guess the real question is: will we play as well with everyone healthy and the kids back in Grand Rapids?

I remember several years ago the Yankees players were all going down with oblique injuries and eventually the team fired the trainer. And while I never advocate firing people, with all the injuries the past several years the training staff should be held partly responsible right? I mean not all the injuries have been bad luck injuries. Getting back to the thread I think Jurco should be the next to sit, and if we get healthier then I would have no problem sending him to the AHL since I believe he could still benefit from more time down there.
-
While Andersson has been pretty solid on the third/fourth lines as well as the PK, I don't think its a stretch to say that Sheahan has more potential. But ones you factor in the salary cap and the fact that Andersson would have to be waived it becomes apparent that Sheahan should be sent down, but with all the injuries we know that Sheahan will be back at some point. Not sure if either Andersson or Sheahan can play the wing, but if they could I would send Jurco down since it looks like he could still benefit from more time in the AHL.

Just when you thought this team has pulled itself out of the crapper, someone comes alone and flushes them down again.

Sammy's contract was a disaster from the start, and has only gotten worse with time.
-
I'm no longer surprised by NTC's, GM's seem to hand them out like candy on Halloween.
-
Money wouldn't be a deal breaker but 1.5 mil is still high for what he provides. For a team to take on his salary they would have to be convinced that he can help make the playoffs, and if that where the case Kenny would have found a trade partner instead of waiving him.
-
Only if he is free. I still think Sammy has something left in the tank and can help certain teams, whoever there are no teams who will be willing to take on his contract.

I'm in shock Holland had the balls to actually do it.

GDT 1/22 GDT : Blackhawks 4 at Red Wings 5 (SO)
wings87 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Let me clarify what I meant was that even though we lost 9 out of 10 to the Hawks all the games were ultra competitive and were one goal games that could have gone either way. Never though Jurco had that toughness in him but he really threw his weight around.
