12/21 GDT: Red Wings 5 @ Maple Leafs 4 (SO, yes, SO)

4-2 Wings, with the two Toronto goals coming off Red Wings defencemen.

Darryl Sutter's take on the Penalty Box.

We could always put opposing teams fans in the penalty box and throw peanuts at them like at the zoo.

Your favourite Red Wings misfit of all time

I love the guy but the two turnovers Stuart made in the cup finals vs Pens were brutal.

Can't remember the last time we were this pathetic

I can, we were this bad most of last season too. If not for the last couple weeks we would have missed the playoffs, but we got in and did a great job.

Darryl Sutter's take on the Penalty Box.

I agree it's not the dumbest, but it's up there. I think instead of the penalty box we should suspend players in the air and lower them when penalty expires.

    Watching them play is painful.

Ok period but the energy level just isn't there once again.

We thought we were good enough to beat the Panthers so at this point who the hell knows.

    Tootoo called up

I guess he'll provide some energy but we need goals and Tootoo unfortunately can't help with that.

    12/17 GDT: Ducks 5 @ Red Wings 2

After every game I ask myself can this get any worse and then after the following game they show me it can. Does this team have a rock bottom? It feels like they hit the bottom so hard they just kept going.

To all the Howard bashers out there take a good look at this game, it doesn't matter who the goalie is if the team defense sucks.

Just be happy you didn't see it, train wreck would be an understatement. Screw high school roster I've seen mite teams play better.

    Nyquist out with groin injury

I say we forfeit the next 5 games and pry no one gets injured walking the stairs.

Why the Red Wings get injured

A lot of our injuries are because we have under sized players playing like big guys. Z is constantly holding off 6'4" defenders so it's not surprising he has back problems.

    Scoring Problem

I was looking through the post game comments after the Lightening Loss and I came upon the Bishop comment: “We did a good job of eliminating second chances and I was able to see the puck.” I think that comment especially the second part perfectly exemplifies the reason for the scoring slump. That and not having a healthy lineup to throw out there every night. But putting aside the injuries for a second I'd like to dissect Bishops comment. Watching the Wings play last season and this I just don't think we go to the tough areas as much as we used to, granted part of it is the fact that we don't have the players we used to have but the inability to block the goalie or tip the puck has become a major issue when trying to score. Bert does a decent job of blocking the goalie when he is out there and Abby isn't bad but they seem to move out of the way of the puck just early enough for the goalies to see the puck coming. Our net front guys just don't exhibit the same fearlessness that Homer used to show, and yes I know Homer was a once in a generation player especially taking in the fact that he was on the small side, but if our guys would hold the position in front of the goalie a fraction of a second longer it would make all the difference. I'm not exactly sure how Babs and the coaching staff should go about fixing it, but I don't think its as simple as sitting people or changing lines. Some on here might call this post reactionary to today's loss but I think it's a problem that has reared its ugly head more than ones for example: Pittsburgh game 29 shots 1 goal, the two Lightening games combined 55 shots 1 goal, second Ottawa game 36 shots 2 goals, Flyers game 35 shots 3 goals(3 goals is enough to win but with 35 shots we should be able to score more). I could keep going on and on and I'm not saying we should have won all those games, hell we have won games where we shot plenty but still didn't score as many goals as the shot total dictates we should have. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we can't blame all our losses on injuries, sure some like the Pens game where we were outclassed, but in a lot of the games there have been plenty of opportunities to win. Lot's of shots but most went clean to the net without a tip or the opposing goalie wasn't screened properly and picked up the puck easily. I think we have the players to be able to screen goalies better and knock in rebounds but they have to greatly improve at it, and hey we are still in a great playoff position even with our struggles so if they finally figure it out and our shot totals stay the same we'll score more goals. I'll look forward to that day.

    12/15 GDT: Lightning 3 @ Red Wings 0

Not advocating trading Franzen, but I would think he would fetch a decent return. Considering the fact that he doesn't have a big cap hit and if he's healthy he would still score 30 or close to it. I know he has lot's of years left on his contract but taking into account his production and the salaries in the sport his cap hit is plenty reasonable.

Ugh I'm so sick of this team I'm never watching them again... Until the next game that is.

He does look a little wide eyed out there, hope he gets a chance to get comfortable. Mrazek looked off on the shot that hit the bar but other than that looks great.

I agree, Bert looked good with Pav before he got hurt.

Jurco is standing around too much, he needs to engage more. But it will probably take him a couple games to get used to the pace.

    Jurco Called Up

He might start there but how long will Babs stay with the same line.

    Jurco Called Up

    I definitely agree with that.
