Even with the build up I wasn't expecting that. Freaky in an awesome sort of way.

Does Talbot realize he plays on the same team with Crosby the king of all douches'

I really hope the NHL closes the loophole which allows teams to give ridiculously long contracts, such as Kovalchuk's 17 year deal, to save cap space. Instead of averaging the yearly salary, the cap hit should be whatever the player makes that year. These contracs are getting ridiculous, and that includes Franzens 11 year deal. Anyway thoes are my thoughts, What do you guys think would you like the NHL to step in and put a stop to the madness.
-
I also don't believe that the NHL has the right to reject his contract until they change the rules, but for now Kovalchuk's contract should be allowed.
-
Looks like the NHL rejected Kovy's contract, because from any perspective a 17 year deal in a league with a hard cap is ridiculous, because his contract is the very definition of circumventing the cap.
-
I agree Lamo did nothing wrong, and no GM should have to follow imaginary rules. Thats why if your going to have a cap there should be a basic set of principals that teams have to follow. Maybe even allow teams to give out signing bonuses that don't fully impact the cap. But allowing teams to give 17 year deals is ridiculous. Whats stopping teams from signing their top players to lifetime contracts and really cutting their cap hit. What if for exemple the pens sign Crosby to a lifetime deal and he never files his retirement papers just keeps collecting a paycheck. just get rid of the Cap and let teams pay players what they want, which is the best way for teams to keep their top players.
-
I want less regulation, as in no cap, but why have cap rules if your not going to enforce them. It just shows the ineptitude of Bettman and his minions.
-
The wings were never in on Kovay so why would I be bitter. My problem is with the CBA and how contracts are allowed to be structured, and how the cap can be manipulated. There shouldn't even be a cap, but if your going to have one it might as well have some teeth.
-
The problem might arise when he is older and not as good but doesn't want to retire. Obviously thats the worst case scenario, but with a deal that long its a problem you might run into.

Or in the case of an injury prone Franzen we might be

I don't care if its a 20 year deal as long as the cap hit is not averaged out, but instead what that player makes each year. No, socialism is what we have now with the cap and parody in the league.
-
I might actually weep from joy if that happens.

I would say nashville, with the trades they recently made it looks like they're getting ready for something big.
-
They really need to change the culture of the team. They don't exhibit much heart, which is amplified by all the diving they did vs the wings. Nabokov can't win a big game, and Joe Thornton is the biggest crybaby in the league, after crosby of course. Thornton is a good player but has a tendency to get rattled and take bad penalties. All in all until management changes the culture of the team they won't win a cup.

You could ask Bettman, but I'm sure even he's had better.

I called directv and it looks like it will be showing on center ice. And if your in the detroit area you probably get it on FSD. -
The wings were terrible, but it still does not excuse that call, which happened in the center of the ice not in a scrum in the corner.

How the hell can the refs see a little hold in a pile of players and not see Lidstrom get speared in the face.

I'm picking LA over Canucks in 7. Because I think Luongo has a tendency to be spotty in big games. Just look at the gold medal game, and all the bad rebounds he allowed.
-
I don't see a problem with what their doing, and more fan participation will only grow the sport. I just wish they would think of something a little more original and thats true to their team and fan base.
-
I think tradition has to come about naturally, and not just be made up because fans want to throw junk on the ice.
-
All those wannabes in other cities need to realize you can't just make up a tradition because you'er bored, it takes time and has to stand for something.
