I can't believe we already have to start mixing up lines, there's no grace period with this team. The only saving grace is that it's early. Plus you just know that Abby is going to end up on the first line.

Fill the void- as in put a warm body in the lineup? In that sense they do, but as far as a top six talent that's almost ready at the minor league level-even for a week or two? Other then Mantha, one isn't available. And if you think back to last year, how many 3rd and 4th liners did the Wings have play out of position. The depth as far as NHL ready players is there, the depth as far as top end talent is not quite there. But it's way way to early in the season it discuss this, I'm going to enjoy the last couple quiet of weeks before the craziness starts up again.

You're taking my sarcastic comment too literally. Also note the fact that I said minor injury--which usually means a week, two at the most-- and there were players that could have helped if a minor injury had occurred. Players not signing here has as much to do with the current roster as it has, to do with the terms and contracts Holland offered to the available players/ in his trade proposals. There would have to be detailed specifics of what Hollands actual offers were, before flat out saying a player didn't want to come play in Detroit. I was making a joke, not starting another conversation on what Holloand did or didn't do, one thing we agree on is that it has been rehashed to death.

Well there are players that can, but I'm not talking about about them-- they would be too hard to get. There are however players that can substitute Pav for a week or two, while a minor injury heals.

It's so nice that Holland upgraded the team in the offseason, so we as fans don't have to worry about minor injuries-such as this- derailing our season.

Big fan of Tats, but he needs a big body to play with. You have to play him with someone like Jurco otherwise he will struggle like he did at the end of last season.

Good deal, although I think a longer term might have been better. It would have let the Wings save some cap space for the future, now if he continues to progress he will probably earn 5-7 mil in 2 years after current deal is up. Now thinking about it the hold-up might have been Holland trying to sign DD to a longer deal at a smaller cap, and DD may have been happier with a shorter deal--which gives him the possibility to make more after this deal is up. I don't know-- I'm just happy it's done.

I don't want to get off topic but the coaches challenge in baseball has been atrociously used. It was supposed to speed up the game--while getting the call right. Instead we have managers coming onto the field -slowly- while looking into the dugout at the bench coach (who is on the phone with the replay coach) to get the thumbs up or down on whether to challenge or not. The umpire has to make the call quickly, so the mangers should decide whether they want to challenge just as quick. My point being that I don't mind the coaches challenge being implemented in the NHL, I just don't want to see the same process being used as in baseball.

While some of the rule changes are idiotic, my biggest concern doesn't involve the rule changes per se. It stems from the fact that the NHL seems to think that it's a good idea giving refs who have struggled to properly interpret rules in the past, even more rules that are open to interpretation. Get ready for more confusion on the ice, especially with the tripping rules.

My sincerest apologies. Although as the saying goes "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" so you shouldn't worry about seeing skimpy pics of Bettman- unless his Icloud account gets hacked that is.

I agree, very rarely is there an original thought anymore. However I prefer the word inspired instead of ripped-off.

The team will probably have support initially, because they'll have that new penny shine, but will their fans/sponsors stick with them through the lean years... especially if the Leafs start winning? That to me is an interesting question.
