After a hat trick instead of hats fans could through dollar bills on the ice.

If the arena is on the strip, they can call themselves The Las Vegas Strippers. Although that might get a little confusing with guys looking for a good time, but instead ending up at Vegas hockey game.

Interesting. Toronto looks like a no brainer on paper, but I just don't know where the fans will come from since most of those 52% avid hockey fans are most likely Leafs fans and are unlikely to jump ship(no matter how bad the Leafs are). And those that are not leafs fans are fans of other teams and are just as unlikely to be fans of the new team. It will take years before an actual fan base is established.
-
You're right about the voting to put the team in Toronto, but you can still envision problems between the 2 teams in regards to sponsors and more importantly tv rights.
-
I just don't understand why Toronto would allow another team in their media market.

Vegas is a bad idea for a team, but adding another team in Toronto might be worse. I get that Toronto is a big enough market to support another team, but where are the fans for the new team going to come from? The Leafs are a team with a rich history and a loyal fan base, and I highly doubt that the die-hard fans will jump ship to root for a new team just because said team might be closer to their homes. I think it's ridiculously difficult to build a fan base for a second team in the same city. Looking at other sports--Chicago has 2 MLB teams but both of those teams have been there since the inception of Baseball, same with the two teams in New York. Plus I don't get why The Maple Leafs would agree to share a market with another team.

How about Salt Lake City. Or maybe Portland, that will give Seattle a rival.

Bettman probably got in deep at the tables and is buying himself out with an expansion team.

There's a reason why every U.S. sport is avoiding Vegas like the plague, it's because of the betting and party scene. Yet all the NHL see's is a wide open market, even in the desert the potential for profit is there, but putting a team in Vegas is going to bite them in the ass-- and knowing Vegas I mean that both figuratively and literally.
-
So two years the league was in such bad shape that it was shutdown with the lockout, but now let's add 4 teams? The ineptitude is mind-boggling, either Bettman was dropped on his head as I child or someone should drop him on it now.

I say let Holland run it, it'll give him something to do in the offseason.

Hockey News: The 5 most evil hockey photoshops we could come up with
wings87 replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Look don't get me wrong, I hate Crosby as much as the next guy- I hate the whining, the leagues obsession with him, diving, I could go on and on, and frankly just the sight of him makes me pissed off. But isn't that the same way Wings fans felt about Chelios? I mean the guy said he hated Detroit and would never play here, and he turned out to be one of my favorite players. I don't want to compare Chelios and Crosby because cheli was at least respected, but the point is that it would be hard not to root for him if the team is winning. -

That's been said by many fans about many players, but when the goals start going in and the points are being racked up, like him or not it would be impossible not to root for him. -

While Philly hates Crosby, I'm sure if he somehow ended up in a Flyers Jersey there would be a line to kiss his ass. -

I was expecting something a little more interesting, I thought the Photoshop pics were pretty pedestrian. -
Bettman consulted his Ouija board and the spirits told him your idea sucks.

I don't have a preference on coaches, frankly I don't care if he's a former Red Wing or a former Rockette as long as he can get the job done.

I wish the mods would shut this thread down. Everyday I log on with a sense of renewed optimism, and everyday I see this thread title and that optimism drops back down into the s***ter. -
Maybe a game of hop scotch?

My issue with the proposed OT rules is that, with the 4-4 and then 3-3, it has the potential to turn the sport of hockey into a mockery. What's next? If the score is still tied after 3-3, do the Goalies arm wrestle at center ice to determine the winner? We should come to terms with it now, we all know it's coming.

Ties have a long history in the NHL, but it was changed for a reason. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't look forward to watching a 3 hour game just to see it end in a tie. Also going back to the old tie system, will cause the same issues as a 3 point game, it would allow teams to just hang on for that 1 point. As far as how to end a regular season game goes, you play till someone wins. But with the 3 point game gone it would force teams to work harder so they don't have to play in OT. The only other option I see would be to, first get rid of the loser point and then play a full 20 minute period before having a shootout.
-
I get what you're saying, but there's nothing in sports that I hate more than ties. Ties have no place in the game, there should always be a winner and a loser. Get rid of the 3 point game (because let's face it you shouldn't get a point for losing) and get rid of the shootout. With those two things gone teams would have more of an incentive to win in regulation, instead of dragging the game out to OT to get a point.

This team is like opposite day, everyday.
