I can't get behind this, if I have to sit through another year of Abby on the top line, I'm going to lose it.
-
You make it seem like every GM is going to be accosting Holland in the Meijer bathroom, just to lure away Blashill. But listen if Jeff doesn't want to go anywhere it's not an issue, it's only a problem if Blashill wants to look for a head coaching gig somewhere else.
-
While I get what your saying, its also a wildly accepted practice to allow coaches/assistants, to interview for positions in other organizations that are better then their current one.
-
Whatever the reason, I still don't think its right to block someone from bettering their position.
-
This quote is very interesting, does it mean Babs might be gone in a couple years and Holland doesn't want to lose Blashill? I also don't like the idea of Holland blocking Blashill from a possibly better opportunity somewhere else, I don't think its professional.
-
I don't think he's been as bad as he's being portrayed on here, although Holland has passed up or has been been passed up by top UFA's in the last several years,(which is a tad troubling.) part of which has to do with not trading for UFA rights as in Wisniewski's case. Trading for players rights is a practice that Holland needs to get more involved with since its becoming more prevalent in the NHL. I personally don't care about the NTC for Sammy, his contract was so bad along with his performance that Holland wouldn't have been able to trade him anyway. As far as the Quincey trade- I agree he seemed to have some potential(maybe cause I didn't watch him much, after he left) but what makes the trade bad was the over payment; even with some potential- Quincey shouldn't have cost a 1st rounder. Frankly Holland scares me on the trade front, he's been prone to overpaying and he hasn't made a good trade since Stuart. The only bad thing about the Cleary signing was that Nyquist was blocked, other then that his cap hit was low-and I applaud his loyalty. The Alfie signing I'll attribute more to the Swedish contingent that the Wings have. As far as Weiss goes, I'm willing to reserve judgement until he's healthy.
-
I think he's destined for Grand Rapids, it would also be nice if he's not need at the start- which would mean that Holland went and upgraded the team.
-
The question I would have is how high would the bar be set for Mantha to beat someone out?
-
I feel like most GM'S are cyclical, usually they make some bad moves followed by some good moves and round and round it goes. Holland's issue has been that lately he's been lacking in good moves, and while you'r right he hasn't done anything crippling, he's hurt the team in other ways. Like wasting cap and roster spots on unworthy players, he also seems to have lost the midas touch in luring top flight UFA's. It's become strange that no top free agent wants to take the Wings money-maybe they're not offering enough?-I don't know... I don't advocate firing him, because who would the Wings get that was better? Sooner or later the fan base would turn on the new GM anyway. I would however like to see Holland get his head out of the sand and join the real world, he's got to realize his moves lately have been beyond atrocious; he's got to get off his hands and finally upgrade the D along with finding a scoring winger for Pav-while Pav is still at the top of his game.

Not at all what I said. Alfie is a 40 year that's just about done, he has to play with Pav or Z to contribute; if he's not on the top 2 lines he'll disappear-just like he did for much of the second half. His Job was to shoot first pass later, yet most of the time he got the puck late in the season and into the playoffs, he would instead differ to other players to take the shot. Some of that may have been injury related, or his confidence was down, I just didn't like what I saw from him. But to your point; the league over time has seen plenty of 40 year old's that could still play with younger players and there have been some that have dominated into their 40's, but unfortunately Alfie is not one of them. Can he still play? Yes, but I don't have the same loyalty towards him that Sens fans would have towards him, so I'd prefer to move on. That being said I'm not blind to the circumstances, if he wants to continue to play; Holland will welcome him back.
-
Most fans wouldn't have a problem reigning Alfie, and that's just fine, but at some point we have to stop signing 35+ year olds who are on the downside of their careers. Why not spend the 3-4 mil Alfie will cost on a younger version of him.

Please for the love of all that is good and holy, get rid of Lashoff and Kindl. If not both then at least one of them. The pairing of Kindl and Lashoff is a goal waiting to happen. We've had amazing success inserting young forwards into the lineup, why not try a defenseman? I don't care if it's Almqvist, or Sproul, or whoever, nor do I care if management thinks they are ready. No one thought Jurco, Glendening, or Sheahen were ready either; and they are doing just fine. So Holland do us all a favor and bring in some fresh young blood.

Gus needs to go to a team where he can start, if he can stay healthy. I'd bring up Mrazek, we gotta see if this kid is the real deal, plus letting Gus go saves cap space.

Here are some facts for you: Last 4 games 14 goals, tons of scoring chances, not too mention countless empty nets that Boston missed. We didn't lose because the offense sucks we lost because we didn't play hard enough. The Wing's can Win with this offense, in fact they did win, The season doesn't just start in the playoffs you still have to get there. A healthy Pav and a healthy Z, along with the kids gaining experiance will change the dynamic of the offense next year. Though going forward the offense needs to be upgraded but not as bad as the D, and that's a fact. Scoring is as much a defensive metric as its an offensive one. The breakout is enormously important, and the Wings current D is terrible at it which contributes to the lack of scoring. But I guess your right some people just can't accept facts.
-
Most of what you said, I'll agree with. But there are plenty of classy players in the NHL, even on the teams you mentioned, so let's not lump everybody into one giant pile. Plus winning's the most important, that's why we watch, and the Wings have had plenty of players over the years other teams might consider unsportsmanlike. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess.
-
Absolutely in fact its what I was hoping for. But hey let's count how many we scored and not how many we gave up( 14 in case you were wondering) or the amount of chances that were given up. How many games do you think you're gonna win giving up 14 goals in 5 games? I'll tell you how many, 1, and that's just by pure luck. The offense didn't show up, but it had potential. The only thing the Defense had potential to do was, take a crap at center ice. But, whatever it's the internet let's not be rational let's just make s*** up.
-
Plus his physical game seemed to mostly disappear this year. I really hope Holland packages some players to, a.) clear the logjam and b.) get someone who can actually play with Z and Pav.
-
Most people are, so it's best to just ignore it, since it's not going away anytime soon.
-
Hind site is 20/20 right? He helped us make the playoffs, granted he then disappeared, most likely because he's just another declining 30+ year old. I think he was worth it, but Holland should have been able to get a better player for the price he paid, or gotten Legwand for less. But really I'm just done crying over a minor leaguer. If Jarnkrok becomes great-I'll tip my hat to him, but until then he's just another prospect and we all know they don't always work out.
-
I couldn't disagree with you more. We can get by with our offense, the D is a total disaster.
-
Those aren't great choices, you need a combination of great/good players on both sides of the puck as well as a big time goalie.
-
Let me start off by saying that the Wings got as far as they could have with the team that they had. The injuries played a significant role in making this the most frustrating season in a long time. Players would get hurt and just disappear for months and even when guys returned from injury you could see that they just weren't right, it was like having our very own Bermuda triangle. I know this is going to sound nuts, yet looking back on the injuries they weren't the worst thing that could've happened... It allowed us to get a look at a number of young players and allowed them to take center stage. If not for the multitude of injuries-we wouldn't have had a chance to see Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco and Sheahan come up, contribute/become stars and gain valuable experience. And as disappointingly frustrating as the season was, seeing these youngster develop in front of our eyes-on the big stage-was amazingly satisfying, it's just too bad the kids couldn't come through in the playoffs. Having said that I'd like to go through some of our UFA's and roster players, and what I'd like to see happen: Alfredsson: I have massive respect for his career, and the player he used to be, but I think resigning him would be a mistake. He has become the type of player that needs great players around him or he struggles-which we saw when he was put on the 3rd line and disappeared for much of the second half. Too be successful he needs to play on the top two lines, but I don't think the Wings can afford to play him there. We have to get younger and bigger up front and resigning Alfie accomplishes neither. I would feel different towards him if he was a long time Wing, alas he's not and I don't have the same loyalty to him as I would if Pav was in his situation. Legwand: No space for him, especially with Weiss coming back. Nor do I want him back after watching his play when relegated to the bottom 6. I do have an inkling that since Holland gave up a ton to get him, that he'll be back. Cleary/Bertuzzi/Sammy/Tootoo: I'll group these guys together for obvious reasons, and neither one should be back. Kindl,Lashoff: Keep Lashoff around as a back up, but find Kindl a new home. Quincey: He got better as the season moved and on, yet I still want him gone. Maybe I'm still pissed he cost a 1st rounder, or that he makes boneheaded plays, I don't know and I don't care I just want him gone. Holland on the other hand probably feels different. Monster: Scares me when he plays, but he had a good year when healthy; too bad it wasn't all that often. Too save cap space I'd let him go in favor of Mrazek, might be time to groom him to take the reins from Howard in 3 years or so. Franzen: For the amount of cap space and the output he provides, I see no reason to get rid of him. I'm just as pissed at him as the next Red Wings fan, but that's hardly the reason to dump him. For the 30-40% of the time he plays he brings a lot to the table. My issue with him is that he sometimes seems weak willed and completely gives up on the play, although when he decides to show up he can make a difference, Abby: I know I said that the Wings need to get bigger and younger, yet as long as Abby's on the team Babs will always want to put him on the top line. I say let's rid Babs of that temptation and trade him. Thanks for reading, had to get that off my chest after a brutal playoff series. Anyway that's my view on some of our players, what do you guys think?

Every ******* time we score a penalty is called, one sided officiating.
