Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Your second option I'll agree with, Holland has to upgrade this team not just patch up its holes.

3/4 GDT: Red Wings at Devils

Howard was a ******* hole tonight. Way to put pressure on Holland to make a trade. Argh.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

My bad 47.7 percent are jealous of us not 50. We where good while Colorado, Chicago, and the Pens were collecting their picks, would you rather we had sucked alongside them so we could have had those same picks? What you're proposing is nonsensical not to mention highly improbable, and I just can't debate this anymore.

It's more realistic then Holland selling the entire team and hoping he gets Mcdavid. Saying every team is a few players away is just not accurate, only half the teams make the play offs which means that only half the teams have the chance to contend for the Cup. The wings are in the playoffs right now, 50 % of the league would love to be in the same position we are. Ask fans of the Panthers or Oilers and see if they are happy to continue to pick early. The Wings haven't had a top pick in a long time and that didn't stop them from drafting Pav, Z, or Lidstrom. They don't need the top pick to Win.

If you trade all your top players and win the lottery and get Mcdavid all you'll have is Mcdavid. Is he good enough to play every position by himself?

Not even close. You didn't answer do you want to trade all your best players.

So are you advocating trading Pav, Z, Kronwall, Howard, and Franzen for nothing but draft picks? Because unless you trade all your best players for nothing but picks finishing last is completely implausible. Not only that how as a fan could you want your team to tank? This team when healthy is a few players from being cup contenders, and there is no proof that they won't be healthy next year.

You want to blow an entire season and pray that you win the lottery(which is no guarantee ) just to draft Mcdavid? Making the playoffs is a big deal and there is no guarantee that the Wings would lose in the first round, look at what happened last year could you have predicted we would come within one game of beating Chicago. The playoffs are a crap shoot ones you get in anything can happen. Plus the Wings have plenty of young talent they might not be projected as well as Mcdavid but they are good, I just can't get behind blowing a season for a player no matter how good.

You would rather see them last then making the playoffs? I'm sorry but that makes no sense.

    Luongo to Panthers

At least this means that Van is open for business, Kesler here we come.

    Canadians may be shopping Subban...

I wrote another post after that one my reasoning is in there.

Good for him but I'm shocked, what the hell are the Panthers doing.

I get your point, but I think that a forward has been a need for several seasons now. Holland went out and got Weiss who has become a giant question mark going forward. I agree that with the emergence of the younger forwards a scorer is less a priority but take into account how good Kindle was last year and how bad he has been this year. While we love our younger players you can never be sure how they'll be next year. A proven scorer would help balance out the youth, but yeah a top D is still a giant need; it has been ever since Rafalski left.

Not surprised since the Wings are rarely front-runners. If Holland ends up making a trade it will be as a dark horse. Bite your tongue you heathen.

Datsyuk is playing on one leg, Z is out, and so is Weiss; tonight we have Andersson centering the first line. As much as the Wings need a defenceman they also badly need another solid top six forward.

If we only needed one player to put us over the top it would make sense to go after Subban, but the Wings need two if not three players and spending all our bullets on Subban is unwise IMHO.

The package to get Subban might be close to what it would cost to land both Kesler and Edler and I'd rather have Kesler and Edler.

    Canadians may be shopping Subban...

He goes in and out, not stable at all, takes too many selfish penalties, and is invisible at times. Like I said massive potential but doesn't show it every game. He is a good player but has potential to be great.

    Canadians may be shopping Subban...

I'm not confusing the two. Kronwall is a tremendous player and our number 1 guy, so lets leave it at that. No sarcasm, the guy has massive potential; but the question is whether he is too selfish to ever realize it.

    Canadians may be shopping Subban...

The Canadians would make a mistake trading him, cause he might grow into something special.

Nah Lidstrom is not the bar he's the gold standard, I just don't think Kronwall is a number one defenceman (in the pure sense of the word, but he's our number one) but he's really close. It's like baseball there are a small amount of true aces and just because a pitcher is a number one on his team doesn't make him an ace. Anyway not to derail the thread let's move on.

    Canadians may be shopping Subban...

As much as I love Kronwall he is more of a number 2 defenceman, Lidstrom was the number one guy and Kronwall isn't quite their. But whatever that's not important. As far as Subban no way is he getting traded for a couple reasons: 1. Too high of a price tag I don't think there is a team that would match it. 2. With that high a price tag teams still don't know what type of player he is. He has massive potential but will he ever reach it? And lastly I'd rather have Edler then Subban, too many unknowns with P.K.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Knowing Holland he might trade a prospect or draft pick but no way is he trading a roster player.

Not the worst addition as a third piece after a puck moving D and a scorer. My guess is he stays in Ottawa.

Phillips would help, albeit marginally. This team needs a puck mover more then a defensive defenceman.
